I kind of unironically agree, to be honest.
She's been behind and worked a lot on Adventure Time which is basically the definitive "western cartoon" at the moment (whether you fucking like it or not) and she has her own mildly to wildly successful animated series; steven universe, going on.

Are they perfect, amazing, series? No, no of course not- they have problems, opinions, etc.. "Agendas" sure, and they can be hamfisted at points. But they're both personal projects with a lot of love and effort put into them and you might disagree, but you'd be a mild to wild contrarian faggot to say so.

Like, who else is there? Who else is really doing anything? Or even attempting to make original animations with story, emotional content, and substance? I don't strictly "like" Rebecca Sugar, but she's doing a really good job, is working hard, is making things that speak to her, is trying to be consistence, and is putting in her full ass, so as someone who LIKES CARTOONS, I'd have to be a pretty big faggot to say otherwise.

So, yeah, she kind of is saving western animation.
Maybe netflix to in a way, but we'll see how that pans out. I heard netflix is starting to lose steam, but they've got a 3rd season of Voltron coming up, 2nd season of Castlevania has been confirmed, and they're making a few animes as well.. But they're losing a lot of liscenses/shows/movies, etc.. So.. Could be a sinking ship or the dawn shining brightest before the night kinda deal.

When people say someone "Saved the -Whatever medium its been talked about-" it often means they got it out of some kind of slum or stagnation they were before, but SU did not do any of that, Adventure Time did.

Think it like this, think of a before and after SU and think of what changes inspired, the answer is very little to nothing. You could argue that Sugar being in AT counts as "Saving western animation" but that's underminding everyone else's work in the show, she wasn't in charge of the whole series, she just worked there.

The finding Peridot arc bent over backwards to drag things out, explicitly to burn episodes, but then Malachite and the Cluster both get resolved in one episode each. And then there's the fucking desert of pacing that was S4.
