The original s7 finale was Preboot/Reboot, and the s8 premiere was Two Swords/Do No Harm. Then CN mucked it around for the season 7 DVD release, and cut out some of season 7, put it into 8, and some of 8 into 9. Probably because it would only be a 16 episode final season otherwise, and now 7, 8 and 9 all have similar amount of episodes.

What are your hopes for the finale?

I'm real sad the show's ending because I won't get to see Finn grow up more. His growth has been pretty damn cool to see play out and I'd like to see it keep going, see stuff like how he acts as an adult, fully mature hero and shit like getting a gal and family works out with him.

But I guess ultimately that stuff works better in a fanfic or something, but it's not like there's a lot of fanfics exploring that concept so fuck me.

Adventure time is a metaphor for life.
It all starts put as fun and games with childhood but eventually things change.

You go through puberty, you start looking for a mate, your heart breaks a few times but you get over it.
Things start to change and that ducks at first but you realize that change can be good and you learn to take the bad with the good.

The show is going to end with Finn beating the big bad at great cost (Jake dies) and he gets depressed and quits being a hero but learns that the world still needs him and that Jake wouldn't want him to end up like Billy and so he takes up the sword again.

I was honestly expecting the show to run on for two more years, and ending on a movie that took place on Finn's 18th birthday.

When the show started, Finn was 12 years old, and he's been aging consistently ever since then. The movie would be about Finn maturing and becoming an adult. No longer the plucky boy adventurer, but now ready to become the Truest Hero as he was always destined to become.

As Finn and Jake face off against whatever world ending threat, Adventure Time would do what Adventure Time does best, by tackling real life emotional crises with the same humor and maturity that it always has. The Ending would be bittersweet, but not lament in the tragedy of it. Instead, it would maintain a hopeful outlook on the future, and one last ride off into the sunset on the next grand adventure.

Oh well, I suppose that so long as it has a proper ending, I'll be fine, and remember fondly the of the times AT has given.

Having the character grow up with you kind of makes it surreal when the show is going to end.

Well for starters, I want an Epic Final Battle with the Lich, or whatever they want to claim as the big bad. And I'm not talking What passes for epic in Steven Universe or OKKO, I'm talking Something worthy of a Blind Gaurdian or Sabbaton Song levels epic. I also feel that it makes PB seem cruel that she knew about Finn's crush and just left him to stew in his own emotions to figure it out by himself.

Third, no Legend of Korra Bullshit where they Make Bubbline canon at the last minute. Part of it is my Bias against the ship I'll admit, but I mostly fee It would be stupid to make establish a reationship at the point where nothing interesting can be done with it. Making it happen now would just feel like too little too late.

Fourth, Have Finn come to terms with the fact that Jake is going to Die someday. I feel like Finn is still too emotionally Dependent on Jake to really grow past being the adventurous kid brother. They had a chance to do this with Finn when Jake had kids but they scrapped. I'm advocating that the End of Finn's character arc should be solitude, but that he should grow strong enough to stand against the future regardless of whether he's with someone.

I think I agree with everything except the epic battle.
It would be awesome for AT to finally go through with something that grand to send things off, and if they're going to have a big bad that there needs to be defeated before the show ends then they really need to pull out all the stops, but I think I would rather there be a more character focused end than a save the world defeat the evil end.
Stuff like focusing on Finn/PB and Finn/Jake's relationships that you mentioned, instead of killing Lich the 8th time or some other bad guy. I feel like that would be a lot more powerful and memorable, and with it being the last we'll see of these characters I'd like things to be character focused and stuff.

BUT something that awesome would be pretty fucking rad, and they could pull out the stops and have Finn show off crazy moves to show how skilled and powerful he's become over the course of the show (or at least should be). So I'd be fine with it.

It's true, he started off as pretty much the only actual adult who was content with his lot in life in the show, and he's mostly stayed that way. But I think that did a great job at letting him be Finn's wingman, someone who's a lot more grounded and available to help out Finn with the many trials he goes through. Jake works very well in that regard.

And they at least came up with the whole aging thing for Jake which is pretty interesting and makes him more dynamic. Other stuff like his kids and shit never really went anywhere.

You're not giving enough credit. WWM and Sky Witch were both great, and Varmints is one of the best episodes in the series. I like how genuine it felt, nothing was forced or overly dramatic. Dude, thats like 6 months away, at the most. Not only that, but with all scheduling changes ive heard season 9 might only be a couple episodes long, meaning it could very well end within the next few months. I know one thing, im gonna cry like a bitch when it on its last few minutes. I loved this show, it got me hooked on episodic animation and animation as a serious medium, and even though ive stopped watching for a few years(i was made that they kept cucking finn) i still really have some strong emotions towards the show, so much so that i couldnt watch it as it got more and more depressing, but i have to see how it ends to see how everything wraps up.

He had to go back in time a thousand years to set up everything on the moon needed to slay those eldritch horrors, periodically using this life-juice from a previous arc to restore his youth. After the horrors are destroyed, they basically never existed in the first place, so the paradox undoes older Finn.

I'm not claiming PB/Marceline's relationship is the pinnacle of the series or anything, just that it's been well-written. There isn't another episode quite like Varmints, so it's hard to directly compare it to the rest of the series, but it definitely is one of the better written episodes. The flow, characterisation and dialogue were all top-notch.

This shows the fundamental flaw. I swear whenever there is a lesbian relationship in a cartoon whether it's this or Korrasami, it's incredibly dry but fans ear it up anyway. I mean if you're going to do it then at least show something.

Then don't do that kind of relationship. I mean come on, this episode was just a normal adventure episode between friends with maybe a single minute of them talking about the relationship in the past with princess BG crying.

That's barely anything. Absolutely not one of the best in the rub of the series.

I just want a good resolution to Ice King's arc that includes Marceline. I found it so weird Betty is back but basically never interacts with this essential person in Simon's history. Ice King/Marceline is by far the most well done and interesting relationship and storyline in the show if you ask me.

That's a massive disservice, it's by far the most important episode in PB's development. PB putting up a facade so she doesn't have to confront her feelings, Marceline not pressing her into talking about it, doing her best to barely keep a conversation going while acting as carefree as possible - it's more about what they don't say than what they're actually saying, a lot is conveyed through subtext. They were also able to cleverly weave in a bit of backstory by using the environment as a reference point for discussion about their history together. You can tell how Marceline misses the relationship they used to have, and it's sweet to see her trying so hard.

The apology scene where PB breaks down is particularly heartfelt. Marceline is completely non-judgmental and understanding and it shows how much their friendship means to her. It makes sense that she is the one who PB finally opens up to. This introspective side of PB is something we hadn't seen up until this point, and it really humanises her character. I love the cold, snarky, mad scientist PB, but she became a much more dynamic character because of this episode.

The amount they were able to put into this episode so seamlessly is amazing.
