I don't usually care as long as it looks nice. But I do tend to prefer very long hair (down to, or below the ass) with good, poofy volume.

As long as it's something that looks super soft and fluffy and that you could dive into it, it's good.
Cartoon hair is a good example of 2D > 3D.
