How come Batman doesn't just buy the guns and drugs in Gotham if he hates them so much? Why does he go out doing karate on heroin dealers instead of investing in social programs while plowing Catwoman or Silver St. Cloud or whoever he feels like pumping and dumping that month?

How is this dude the smartest guy in the world? At least Guy Gardner and Hal embrace the fact that they are severely retarded instead of saying one thing and doing another?

Yes the point that Bruce Wayne could help Gotham in many better ways than dressing up as a bat and personally fighting criminals has been brought up many times. The usual arguement is that Batman is a vent for his angst in a way that less direct ways of helping never could be. Comics are weird sometimes.
>>
>>93948991
You can't remove all guns and drugs from black markets.

Most guns come from black markets.
>>
>>93949259
Okay, he needs to release steam by punching people, fine, but what the fuck does Wayne Enterprises do then? Why doesn't he give some money to Arkham so that the Clock King stops breaking out every hour on the hour?
>>
>>93949390
he does do stuff like that though
>>
Crime in Gotham isn't committed by normal criminals, but by super criminals. Their motivations are that they fell into a vat of something and now they're super crazy and want to fuck everything up, so the boring answer of economic reform and rehabilitation doesn't work.

Besides that, Batman is actually making the world a safer place by drawing all the super criminals to Gotham. For some reason, they can't resist going after Gotham, so Batman actually protects much more than just his city.
>>
>>93949436
Why doesn't he do it more if it isn't working though? It's not like it can't be done. Oliver Queen does it for Star City and it isn't the fucking shithole that Gotham is
>>
>>93949489
I undertsnad maybe the poors can't leave gotham because the rent is super cheap, and that the rent is cheap because there is a 100% certainty that Poison Ivy will show up to sodomize you with her new devilcactus.

I get that there are rich crimebosses like Carmine or whoever who are too stubborn to cede their stations to Scarecrow's gang or whatever, and service people who feel duty bound to help all those poor simpletons.

But there are plenty of rich, intelligent people who choose to stay. Why do they do this? Wayne hosts events and balls and galas and shit for socialites. Why do they stay? Why did they build an elite prep school across the street from fucking Gotham?
>>
>>93949504
Gotham is literally cursed, m8
>>
>>93949259
He puts massive amounts of money and effort into city development and political campaigning. This has been shown over and over and over and over in the comics since the 70's and even in the movies yet people cannot seem to get this through their heads.

Batman is there to go after the problems you can't just make go away with money. You know, like a guy shooting two people in an alley in front of their kids to get some quick cash. Or a literal serial killer clown who constantly outwits the authorities. Or a fucking man made of fucking phosphorus.

This was even the entire central conceit of the Dark Knight, the Batman movie literally everyone and their grandma has seen, yet people just do not get it and keep asking this retarded "lol why does batman dress liek bat when he cud just buy crime away lol" question.
>>
>>93949807
you're retarded
>>
>>93948991
Wayne enterprises probably causes some of the crime he tries to fight
>>
>>93948991
If he buys them then the dealers are just going to turn around and get more drugs and guns and sell those and potentially further their operations. He should just steal them and keep them all in the batcave
>>
>>93948991
Because he wants to dress up as a bat and fight crime to distract himself from coming to terms with his homosexuality.
>>
>>93948991
>Buy all guns and drugs
>Holy fuck Gotham is a huge market for drugs and guns! Push more drugs and guns into it!
>End up with more guns and drugs on the market

Do you even market forces?
>>
Superheroes are a fantasy genre you spergs.
>>
>>93951133
>>93950819

>take all the guns and drugs
>smelt the guns into braces for kids with bad teeth
>sell the narcotics are painkillers and anesthesia
>open waynetech orthodontic suppliers
>Become even richer
>Demand for guns outpaces manufacturer's ability to create them
>They overexert themselves and go bankrupt

What's the problem?
>>
>>93948991
>buy all the guns and drugs
>durrr okay the market is done, pack up we're done.

this would viciously expand the market you silly-pants.
>>
>>93948991
why doesn't Batman build an anti-gun and drug machine that automatically deletes guns and drugs
>>
>>93948991
>Batman buys all the guns in the black market at high prices
>Gun theft becomes a thing in gotham
>>
>>93951294
isn't that basically what omacs did?
>>
>>93951209
That's not how things work.

>Gun and drugs sellers keep raising prices as demand outstrips supply and yet their merchandise keeps being bought
>Keep plowing money back into operations while making profit.

Look at what happened to .22lr over the last eight years.
>>
>>93951133
>buy all the guns and drugs
>market gets flooded
>buy all them as well
>sell them all back to the streets at a mark up
>build more cool batshit
>>
>>93951403
>Batman selling black market guns and drugs to the community.

I think you've missed the point.
>>
>>93951332
How does that work? They'll just shoot you with the gun and give Batman cause to punch you and take it

What are we doing here? What's the endgame?
>>
>>93951431
Nonsense. More bat-money means more bat-justice. Everybody wins, apart from the criminals.
>>
>>93950683
>can't refute
>better insult him
>>
>>93951573
>can't insult
>better refute him
>>
Why don't you just put the whole world in your wallet, Batman?
>>
>>93948991
>buy all the guns and drugs
>Black market dealers make a huge profit, go out and buy more guns and drugs to sell
>Bruce can't get around fast enough to keep buying all the guns at once
>Crime continues
>>
>>93948991
Works great for the FBI!
>>
>>93951735
lol
>>
>>93948991
It's because in reality Bruce Wayne is only one step away from insanity. Childhood trauma, especially watching your own parents die in front of you, messes you up pretty bad. After all, what sane man would dress up as a bat and spend the rest of his life waging an unending crusade on crime?
>>
>>93949504
Star City isn't built on top of hell's asshole though.
>>
>>93953260
Great argument, what sane person would dress as a blue beatle?
>>
>>93953319
In Secret Six the entrance to hell is in like, Akron Ohio or some shit
>>
>>93952942
Use the gun buying as the carrot and use Batman punching your testicles in as the stick

boom, no more crime
>>
>>93948991
The better question is why Batman doesn't buy significant portions of the coca crop, raw coca is only worth $500 per ton, which would subsidize poor South American farmer while creating massive drug shortages and price spikes that would destabilize the Mexican cartels in the short-term?

Why doesn't Batman use activist investing to buy out gun manufacturers, consolidate them as much as possible, then stop manufacturing; massively decreasing supply while creating extreme market shocks that would kill a large portion of gun stores then use lobbying to enact a multitude of laws on the local level to impede the operation of remaining gun stores/gun manufacturers and prevent the creation of new ones?
>>
>>93954456
I would read a comic where batman tries to punch the second amendment in the dick
>>
>>93949259
Has there ever been a Batman comic where he can't vent violently but still has to maintain his presence as the head of his company?
>>
>>93954518
>Jessica Cruz becomes a billionaire overnight flipping the three storage sheds worth of guns she accumulated during her paranoid survivalist phase
>>
>>93949504
Star City wasn't nearly as fucked up as Gotham was to begin with though.
>>
>>93949589
In the DCverse Gotham is the largest city in the USA at over 12 million people. It doesn't make much sense, but there you go. Presumably there are wealthier less shitty parts.
>>
>>93955075
The problem is that high crime rates will drive out the middle class and create wealthy enclaves. Realistically Gotham would have a large suburban and micro-urban area surrounding it where the bulk of the population lives. Using the 12 million number you'd probably see about 4 million living in Gotham City limits while the rest live in the greater Gotham Metropolitan Area. Batman himself, notably, doesn't actually live in Gotham City proper.
>>
>>93954266
There's several mouths of hell, gotham is a damned city and a mouth of hell.
>>
>>93955414
So, basically everyone lives in the Burnsides. Ugh. I hate it. :)
>>
>>93956598
Burnside type areas would come later, and mostly be descended from small bohemian communities that would pop up to take advantage of the depressed real estate prices. Redevelopment into something like Burnside would come a few years later if the bohemian enclaves managed to stabilize. Gentrification doesn't really take off until crime rates in an area begin to decline; in real life you see gentrified areas tending to ring the wealthy sections and remaining middle class areas when crime rates remain high, where they represent a transitional socio-economic zone. That is assuming no large scale, top-down economic redevelopment is taking place like what happened in NYC during the 90s.
>>
>>93948991
Because it would create a high demand and every weapons and drug dealer would want a piece of Gotham.
>>
>>93949504
Gotham is a hellhole that whole Bloohaven is worse was some dumbshit they said to make Nightwing look cool.
>>
>>93957308
Bludhaven was just pre-Batman Gotham.
>>
>>93948991
because investing in social programs never works.
the easy thing is to sell and do drugs.
and lazy people will continue that activity as long as it is easy to do
>>
>>93957308
Wait, I thought the Bludhaven thing was that it was worse than Gotham, but only because Gotham isn't at bad as it used to be. It BECAME the worst city after Batman started operating in Gotham.
