It was made to have an animated television show that starred a prominent cast of black people, and to educate ignorant white people (and ignorant black people, who also gets portrayal in characters like Riley) of the injustices black people suffer every day, all under the guise of funny writing.
>>
>>93948014
Boondocks was a great show, much more anti-establishment than South Park.
>>
It was a comedy show dedicated to showing the faults of the black community, while also showing love to them. It doesn't appeal to self-hating blacks, it's about showing the dumb shit niggas do & telling them to do better.
>>
>>93948090

How does showing black people acting retarded educate white people on racial injustice?
>>
No, it's a far-left black nationalist show. The fact that whites unironically laugh at all the black antics in it is just a side effect.

I don't even know how anyone could see that as /pol/. Fuck, I think /pol/ is complete shit, but part of loving anything (country, show, race, whatever) is admitting that it has flaws & wanting to see them do better. >>
???
>>
>>93948014
No.
Self hating blacks believe everything wrong in their community has to do solely with themselves and ignore the snowballing of centuries of oppression, forced broken family units, and the fact that they are barely even two generations removed from finally having the same rights as Whites.

This show finds itself in a position a bit more neutral than that. It shows that there are problems within the black community but points out the problems outside said community as well
>>

South Park NEVER said something about Obama, since almost a decade it became completely part of the establishment.

Its a show about black people by black people who aren't afraid to alugh at themselves and point the problems around
And that's why it's better than 99% of shit on TV, people think cursing is censored and it's funny when it's not but the real problem with censorship it's how narrow the spectrum of things and opinions you can show becomes
That's why the Simpson, Bob's burgers and family Guy are all essentially the same thing
>>

>>93948441
It's just a show about Black people with magic surrealism and cartoon/anime logic. It tackles social issues on top of it. Are the character's flawed? Yes, just like humans in real life. Black family. Take away all the fantasy and it's a show about Black culture and social issues. Just like how if you take away the mafia aspect of The Sopranos it's still a series about Italian-American culture.

No, Huey is wrong in a different way. The show points out that despite having good intentions, he'll never succeed in the revolution because Black People willfully choose to be ignorant. It's not all bad since ignorant characters like Thugnificent, Gangstalicious, Granddad, and Riley always face the consequences of their actions.

>>93950909
Yeah, the show is just an honest. Honesty is rarely pretty. Aaron doesn't discriminate, though, he's equally critical of everything that he feels is corrupt or immoral. I think the show focuses on the black community because, let's face it, the black community rarely gets criticism from anyone that isn't some dumbass racist. He strikes me as someone who likes to shine a light on things that everyone else isn't.

I agree and disagree with him on a variety of topics, but I always respect his opinion because his views are consistent. I never feel like an ulterior motivate is controlling him, and I don't get the impression that he holds back on punches because he's afraid to offend someone.

In that sense, Aaron is more South Park than South Park.
>>
>>93953992
I always thought Thugnificent had the best end.
>>
I always much preferred when this show was sentimental than when it was political, like the Huey painting episode, or the one about grandad's friend dying.
>>
>>93954114
That's because he was smart enough to get a humble job as a delivery man while Granddad continues to waste money on dating crazy women, or stupid financial decisions.

>>93954065

He started doing less topical episodes for the show because he pissed off Al Sharpton.

>>93948014
McGruder made on hell of an IP that died a slow and painful death around the middle of season two, autistically I will break down each season from the perspective of a black autist.
Season one has McGruder examining black culture, critiquing what he saw as pitfalls that black people can fall into and ruin themselves in. Mixed in with this is light humor aimed at comforting the audience as harsher themes and elements are introduced. To compliment this each character is written and designed to represent different strata of black culture and society. With the two leads being the most important choices a black person can make in today's society, education or ignorance. Through all of this, he approaches each issue with nuance and careful thought. There are no direct enemies and all characters can be wrong to some degree and right, even Uncle Rukas.

This is best exemplified in the episode Return of the King, where McGruder shoves his middle finger in the faces of the selfish over privilaged black community. He pulls no punches and destroys the community for what they've done to the Civil Rights Movement and each character is in rare form.
Season Two has McGruder on fumes. While he still delivers competent episodes he;s more rushed. He's giving episodes less thought and decentralizing the creative process allowing the writer's room to start writing the premises and scripts themselves. This is the start of a steady decline in writing quality.
Season Three has one clear message: McGruder doesn't want to do this anymore. The characters are vague shadows of what they were from season three. The show is more vindictive to prove Huey wrong and glorify Reily's life. characters who were seen as idiots before are now the voices of reasons not because they are but the staff legitimately agreed with their stupidity and now promotes them as clear cut heroes. Plots are no longer gray but black and white. This person is wrong this person is right.

Season 4 is retarded.
>>
>>93954170
>he pissed off Al Sharpton
Well, if anything can make me forgive him it's that.

I should have been more specific. I can't blame anyone for bending to leverage. "Is this the hill you want to die on" and yadda yadda.

I'm probably being a hypocrite here, but it feels like South Park has been backing off in fear of getting pressure without actually getting it. I'm not even conservative but they seem a little intimidated by the left, and willing to bend to them. And these are the guys who depicted Muhammed twice.

Black Entertainment Television... is the worst thing I've ever seen in my life!
>>
>>93953992
>he'll never succeed in the revolution because Black People willfully choose to be ignorant
He'll never succeed in the revolution because some black people are ignorant, some white people are ignorant, some black people are malevolent (Stinkmeaner, BET), some white people are malevolent (Wuncler), some black people misplace their trust (Tom), and some white people misplace their trust (Jasmine). The agency of all of these parties in their behavior is never fully addressed; some are victims of the system, some are trying to protect their domain, etc.

But the show also shows MULTIPLE times that it's worth it put up the fight anyway. The prisoner, the Black Jesus play, Huey's helping hand to Jasmine after the lemonade stand thing.

I want to say that white people don't understand this show. But that wouldn't be true; plenty do. Just not most of the white people who come to 4chan.

Season 4 was
>>
>>93954402
Huey's dream is a revolution where people use the existing structures to upend the hypocrisies and corruption of the system; he wanted basketball players to boycott and Oprah to fulfill her potential.

What actually works for him is being a decent human, yes, but often specifically in opposition to what expectations of society. The system had tried, convicted, and condemned a man. His case was effectively closed. Huey's response was to uncover the facts and protest, even though for all intents and purposes the system was working as it should be and it had decided that that man needed to die to fulfill his debt to society.
>>
>>93948014
It was made so /pol/tards like you could miss the point. Cry more faggot.
>>
>>93954539
Every season was.
>>
>>93954467
The point isn't King's tirade. It's that it spurred on change. People focus on the monologue because it's shocking coming from him, but countless demagogues have berated the black community in such a way - and, considering what we know these days about how those conditions came about, it's not even clear that they're warranted.

But what's most important about the episode is that, in the end, the people rediscover their agency, regardless of whether or not the criticisms leveled against them are true.

The way people look at it, it's like if someone made a movie about the Newtown shooting and walked away thinking that the actual attack scenes were thematically more important than the scenes looking at the sociopolitical aftermath.

>>
>>93954933
>Black Jesus
Was it any good?
>>
>>93954569
Being a decent person isn't a revolution. Plenty of normal average people are decent and kind every day without any incentive to themselves.

It's pointless to try and stop the system that exists. No matter what people in power will consolidate and centralize power to further their own interests. With scarcity and rarity applied to resources, it is impossible for anything to change as it is human nature to desire what is rare.

Instead of reading so much Afrocentric philosophy and theory he should have just read Les Mis.

>>93954781
That would be a good point if the entire set up to the point wasn't, 'Black society is cancerous'.' The episode ending as Huey's impotent wet dream dissolves your point and leaves only the set up to that moment as the current status quo. It would be great if that actually happened, but it never will because King's rant is as powerless and Huey's dream.

>>93954856
According to interviews, he went full Alex Hirsch on season one, micro managing every part of the show and its creation.
>>
>>93948090
It was meant to show the actual scenario black people face every day

Yes they face police brutality from police officers of all races but they also are responsible for doing incredibly stupid shit for superficial spectacle

The show is obvious satire. "Black Jesus" is walking around compton. Seems like if anyone was upset it was religous based, not race based.
>At my old job three years ago, I had a picture of Jesus as a black man on display and ten minutes later, the frame was broken.
Interesting anecodate but I don't see how you know it was broken because Jesus was Black, and even if it was that has nothing to do with the show.

No, being black was the exact reason it triggered those types. None of the complaints were from black pastors, clergymen, etc. And I mentioned Savannah for a reason: Eight years down there and the religious nutjobs are a dime a dozen, along with all the bibles, faith-based books donated to the job and a church being on every damn corner.

Being neck deep in that shit for that long, you'd know why Black Jesus triggered the response it did. Moreso if you know how the black church is with their depiction of Jesus.
>>
>>93955301
I'd say the negative reaction to black depictions of Jesus comes more from the racist side than the religious side. As an evangelical religion Christianity has a long history of syncretism in art that continues to this day--look at the depiction of Jesus in missionary materials intended for Asia and Africa. It'd be as goofy about complaining that a depiction of Christ is pasty, wears medieval clothing, and reads from books instead of a scrolls.
>>
>>93955746
Yes we are. That's what this entire thread is about.
>>
It was a social commentary on black and general societal issues. McGruder was always on the side of reason over hysteria and tribalism. The R Kelly trial, the Obama episode, and the MLK Jr. episode show this. He's not down with ignorance and stupid attempts to be progressive.
>>
>>93955812

>>
>>93956043
Chappelle thought he was putting on a ministry show and the pressures of show business drove him insane. He wrote and starred in the show. he'd be doing skits for like sixteen hours a day, go home, come back and do the same shit. He couldn't trust anyone because people were trying to fuck with the show and he put a lot of pressure on himself for season 3. Eventually he couldn't take it anywhere and peaced out. McGruder was a slightly different situation. IIRC he liked what he was writing but it was a lot of work. He got burned out especially after the BET episodes got banned.
>>

>Corrupted Assholes
Human nature in action. That Communism encounters similar failures in every culture demonstrates it's a solution that doesn't fit the available tools.

And the people are the tools/pieces/whatever you want to call them that you have to work with.

>Do you also think people should just blink at insults and racial slurs like they never happened?
Yes. Sometimes the correct move is nothing at all.

You'd like that wouldn't you, whitey? The only way to overcome racism is to make you people so uncomfortable that you give in.

I only watched one episode, and though it was a little tyler perry rather than hard satire. I figured I'd catch up with it sometime in the future. It's the ONLY live action CN thing I've ever considered watching.

What I REALLY wanted was an uncle ruckus election special. Its a shame he didn't get his movie.

I suppose. but there are 'pure' people. perhaps a better test of humamity before employment would work?
just think anything is possible and wheter we let it be is a different thing

It's boring. It's less of a comedy and more of a serious story about ghetto life and black jesus is just some kind of weird gimmick.

White people watched this for the wrong reasons (Riley/Grandad, & Uncle Ruckus)

They did some more recent seasons in like 2014 and it sucked because it had a different writer. Well it wasn't that bad but it sucked compared to the first two seasons.
