Why did she care so much?
Her brothers weren't doing anything particularly harmful to others. Was she not impressed by their genius? Was she jealous?
She had friends and a boyfriend that cared about her and wanted to hang out with her, but she would rather spend all day trying to get her kid brothers in trouble?

>Was she jealous?
it's the best answer we have
After a while it was about proving that she was right. It was the accomplishment, not the whatever.

Because everyone thinks she's crazy. She needs to prove she's not.
She needed to prove she wasn't crazy, and it just made her look crazier. The crazier she looked the more she had to prove. It spiraled out of control.

A combination of her being insanely concerned about their safety, jealousy that they can get away with things she couldn't, and a need to actually prove that she wasn't lying/crazy about them doing those things.

After a while she basically developed an addiction like response to trying to bust them

You'd want to inform your parents too if your siblings were building unnatural shit.
Probably started of as a jealousy thing. Eventually turned into a quest to prove she isn't crazy.

This.
Hell if Cadence just went along and had fun, she probably not be so high-strung.

Early episodes. She was worried that they were playing with fire. Later episodes, she wanted to prove she wasnt crazy.

That's actually the entire point of the Wizard of Oz episode, which would have been the season/series finale if Disney hadn't ordered more episodes.
Wizard of Odd, Rollercoaster: The Musical, Summer Belongs to You, and Candace Gets Busted each could have served as a series finale when it comes down to it.
And any one of them would probably have done a better job of it than the actual series finale did if we're honest about it.
