Not terrible, but it always seemed too try-hard for me and some formulatic types of plots they used early got old pretty quickly. It probably gets so much love because people compare it to modern FG which is unwatchable.

As a drama there's just plenty of other shows out there that better deal with the same themes, as a comedy it's not all that clever, and as both genres I never felt they mended together very naturally.

FPBP. It's amazing that there are some people here actually trying to argue it was "the cartoon of the decade" for the 2010s in a thread not too long back. There are several shows that surpassed it in popularity. In terms of storytelling, SvtFOE and even Gravity Falls shit all over it. I think these people are just comparing it to Steven Universe which is equally bad and overrated to come to that conclusion.

This show was mediocre even back in 1991 and stayed that way. It's a wonder how it was the most popular and longest running Nicktoon until 2012, when SpongeBob finally surpassed 172 episodes.

It's mainly an alumni thing. If you're smart when you go to CalArts, you'll make friends with all of the teachers, and all of the other students in your class. Then when one of those friends manages to score a job in the industry, they'll hire you instead of some rando from another school because you were their friend. This has been going on for a long time, which is why a vast majority of influential people in the industry are from CalArts.

Granted not ALL of the important people are from CalArts, Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones for example, but the whole thing has still left a bad taste in the minds of other creators who weren't rich enough to attend the school.

It is easily the cartoon of the decade. Neither SvTFOE of Gravity Falls come close to the impact AT had, or its popularity at its peak. Horse Show is up there too.

Also Star vs is garbage. That's probably the most overrated thing on /co/ right now.
