Did that new Captain Britain even do anything?

Do people even like Captain Britain in general?

Faiza is not the "new" Captain Britain. This did not occur in regular continuity. Brian was and still is Captain Britain.
>>

Oh my bad then. I remember I read a Secret Wars tie-in and she showed up and I just thought "ok this is a thing now"
>>

Haven't heard from her since her debut.

You'd really expect a character like her to blow up.

Isn't she supposed to be related to that black knight dude?

Look, I don't mind Marvel's diversity push, I really dont. You can't keep having every character be the pasty white selection from the 1960s.

But Arthurian legend is intrinsically tied to Christianity. The problem with making Captain Britain muslim isn't a problem with her being muslim as much as it being a problem with putting one religion's holy items in the hands of another religion. It'd be like teleporting the Ka'aba Black Stone to Salt Lake City - the problem isn't about Mormons, its that you're mixing religions and ending up offending both sides. Or, would you retcon Mohammed himself
into being, say, an eskimo grandmother? No, and you wouldn't not do that because you have something against the Inuit people or muslims, you wouldn't do that because it *doesn't make any sense*, its a muddled mess.

Bottom line, a muslim holder of excalibur wasn't about "diversity*, it was about being anti-western and anti-christian. I'm a liberal myself but I draw the line as self-hating, the best thing to ever happen to this planet was the western renaissance, we're living in a Golden Age and the very people who benefit from those advances bitch and moan about how bad the creators of those benefits are. Half the people reading this *wouldnt be alive right now* if not for the science and medicine western culture created, you'd died in childbirth, or from a host of diseases we've all but eliminated, or from starvation. But its hip and cool to bash western civilization - they're the only culture that allows that, have fun going to Saudi Arabia and critiquing the Koran, see how that works out for you when the religion police (honestly) pick you up and take you away for a quick beheading.
>>
>>93939468
I like Brian, not the PC Replacement.

>inb4 bigot

Yeah, I am. I do not like Muslims. Others as well, but mostly Muslims. I have no problems with the Arabs, the Sikhs, whatever. I don't like Muslims. I don't hate them, I won't kill them, but I won't read about them.

>>93940128
>That book was criminally underrated and it's sad that it only gets brought up these days to shit on that Doom and Dracula page or on Faiza.

Good book, but stupid pages deserve to be mocked. Doom has Latveria looking like a medieval village and is an ultra-nationalist. This notion that he shouldn't be xenophobic or allow Mosques to be built inside the country is a liberal dream.

>inb4 gypsy

So? Just because you're not racist towards one group doesn't mean you can't be racist against another. Even Hitler liked some Jews (his childhood doctor).
>>
>>93940378

>>
>>93940494
And still sporting the dumb beard and one eye.
And probably still the last Captain Britain.
Thanks, Hickman.
>>
>>93940416

Show me when a non-western religion gets stepped on like giving excalibur to a muslim and I'll agree with you. You'll never see a Marvel writer dare to do anything that might upset a muslim reader and you know it.

And thats exactly why I don't care for this, I have read real King Arthur stuff. Its western mythology, diversify modern characters all they wish but stepping on old legends is insulting to the culture. Its just ok in this case because westerners are fine with poking at their own culture. A small number of catholic pedofiles is unacceptable (and rightly so), but that women cannot go outside without a male chapperone is perfectly fine for third-world countries. The soft racism/culturalism of diminished expectations for third world countries. Regressive liberals are actually more racist and more sexist this way, they're brazen about it.

If she's wearing a hajib when she's not being forced to, it implies some sort of religious practice.

On the other hand, I can't think of a single Muslim female character in Marvel who hasn't hooked up with, or at least lusted after, a white guy.

Even that support character from Mighty Avengers was implied to have a crush on the white dude who looks like Fabio.
>>
>>93940802
She is, yeah.

People like to pretend Islam is the only religion without practitioners who are technically bad at following the religion because they have a looser, modern approach to it.

>If she's wearing a hajib when she's not being forced to, it implies some sort of religious practice.

Granted. But it feels like it's mostly used in comics as a visual shorthand.

In Marvel, Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone are one in the same.

Otherworld is the collective subconscious of the British people. Most people conflate the two swords, so that's how they appear.

God I loved that book.
Pushed so hard against the "everyone's an asshole" vibe of Hickman stuff.
>>
>>93940464
No it's not. It's based on Romano-British and Welsh folklore both of whom were Christian at the time it was believed to have been originally penned, and the later chroniclers and authors who created pretty much everything about Arthur aside from 'there was a warlord named maybe Arthur or Artur or something like that' were definitely Christian.

Since Weirdworld is basically Marvel limbo maybe Faiza is there now and has a chance to hook up with Dane again.

How was Weirdworld anyway? Art looked good.

Why did anyone think this was a good idea?

After all these recent terrorist attacks, do you think the author regrets this?

The Secret Wars mini was great. The post SW ongoing was pretty good, but it starred almost all OC's, and failed to capitalize on the story momentum from the mini. I think it was a mistake to market a BK book set in Weirdworld and a separate Weirdworld book. Too thin for such a niche property. The should have combined both stories into one book. At least relegate one story to back-ups. Also don't have fucking Frank Tieri attempt to write.

Also Islam is incompatible with the West.

Knowing what I do about Cornell and Ewing, probably not.

At the time when she was created it wasn't quite as huge of an issue, since her team book ongoing was almost ten years ago now. She was cute, but I do think that it was laid on a bit thick with her wielding Excalibur, especially the issue where she and Dane meet her parents.

I do agree that currently, Faiza as the wielder of Excalibur in 616 is in very poor taste and very, very tone deaf. Having her as an alternate reality Captain Britain, on the other hand, is no big deal because thst's the whole deal with the CB Corps. Faiza is hardly the weirdest alternate reality member of the Corps, even if she is a practicing Muslim. Plus, Brian is still CB in 616, so it's not like he was replaced outright.

I've seen teens in skull-patterned hijabs, all colors, all shapes and variations so I guess it's a bit more nuanced and personal than just either religious oppression or harmless fashion item.

Does Faiza speak Urdu? If she does, her meeting Kamala could turn into an awkward scene if suddenly everyone else is excluded from the conversation.
>>
>>93940464
So is christiany. Half if not more of the stories and the elements of it are copied of all kind of pagan religions
>>
>>93939468
All I'm going to say is this: If /pol/ 1. knew that Captain Britain was a thing and 2. wanted to make a vicious parody that mocked the perceived failings of the current U.K. then this is probably what they would come up with. Make of this what you will.

Why life

You know it would not be a congress, but a parliamentary debate.
They would immediately divide into the versions where Germany ended up Communist, Fascist, monarchist, various democratic versions etc. and try to form a ruling coalition to determine a special commission to decide on what they should stand for.

You're not that anon, Satan, so my comments don't apply to you.

Really, are you defending posts like >>93941121? Are you saying that's a constructive opinion from someone who wants to have a reasoned debate? Does it sound like the post of someone who actually reads comics?

>>93946457
That's because the fucking German government objected to the character of Hauptmann Deutschland, and Marvel stopped using him as a regular character. They still slip him in from time to time, so it's not unreasonable to think there are other multiversal variants on him.

>>93944145
Trolling?

I really liked the Black Knight series and brought every issue. Apparently I was the only one.

Which administration objected the Hauptmann?
On what grounds?
>>
>>93948833
The character was introduced in 1991 and he and his team showed up occasionally for a few years after that, which was when Helmut Kohl was in office.
>>
>>93948973
I mean, I see why you would want to object someone else having a character that purports to speak for your country without getting any say in what kind of values or ideas this character would champion.

Fair enough, they did affirmatively respond to the German government's request that they not portray Germans as people who stand up for themselves, fight for freedom, or are patriotic.

Things haven't seemed to have changed much.
>>
>>93949252
Yeah, they successfully averted Americans dictating their representation of the country. What cucks! They must hate freedom to stand up against someone who wanted to tell them what to stand up against!
>>
>>93949365
I'm not saying they don't have the right to complain, I'm saying it says a lot about their national mentality compared to ours.

Like it or not, Tieri is the only person in the industry who gives a fuck about Black Knight.

As a German, I don't necessarily think so.
See, it is one thing to have German characters in comics. No problem.
But if you have Americans make a character that speaks for the German state and/or nation, that is another thing.
This is Americans deciding what Germany ought to be. And that is a very sensitive point there, especially just after the Cold War.
It may seem petty and bureaucratic, but making a military officer a representative of the German people would be in and of itself questionable enough in the historic perspective. Under Kohl, Germany was still working very hard to look non-threatening to everyone, so any implication of a violent Germany was unwelcome. But having an outside power cavalierly send such a representation through all kinds of adventures, that could lead to some scandal and harsh words at an inopportune time as Germany was reintegrating a third of its current population.

You can probably see the point about not having others define who you are.

There is only one reason to care about Captain Britain and it is not Britain (although it is British)
