90s X-Men is ultimately a better show, but X-Men: Evolution is pretty underrated.
>>
The 90s show is brought down by its animation, which is horrid.
>>
>>93926989
Evolution Cyke > TAS Cyke
Evolution Jean > TAS Jean
>>
this show. oh man, what a time to start going through puberty.
>>
>>93927047
True but it's stories are good. A much more compelling battle with Apocalypse then the recent film.
>>
Wait, wait, hold up. There are people out there who unironically enjoyed the 90's X-Men cartoon?
>>
>>93926989
First two seasons are shit, the other two seasons start getting good, then it got canceled midway trough a story arc.
It had potential but it will only be remembered for introducing X-23 and i'm thankful for it
>>
>>93926989
I like Evolution better personality, but I like X-Men TAS too. Worth noting Claremont is not a fan of Evolution.
>>
>>93927236
Evolution X-23 >>>>> any other X-23
>>
Post the lewd Rogue and Kitty shit already

It't not under rated at all. Most X-men fans like it, some even like it more than the 90s cartoon. As for me Marvel Cartoons go EMH>90s X-men>WATX>X-men Evolution>F4

sorry, not a Spidey fan
>>
>>93928686
Pretty much. She doesn't even look like logan anymore, despite being his own clone. How does someone fuck such a basic detail like that up?
>>
>>93928298
As I child I enjoyed it but as an older person I realized the writing doesn't hold up and the animation was lousy. Good voices though.
>>

Why did X-23 get canonized but Spike didnt?

where does this fit?

does anyone know why it was a one and done? it even had the arcade game based on it
>>
>>93933436
I heard it was just them throwing the budget of another show at this instead of that.

I think Pryde was also meant to be a pilot for a show that never got picked up. As for where it fits, I think its pretty much its own thing regardless of the arcade game.
>>
>>93929341
It's the most faithful of all x-men cartoons with how convoluted it is.

There was a Spike in X-Statix

Half Evo Spyke's character was being Storm's nephew. But because Storm grew up orphaned on the streets of Cairo, you can't just add that relationship into the comics. So what's the point?

Was I the only one who found the first couple episodes, where the kids are being recruited, really fucked up?

Toad is clearly a mutant, and discovers the mansion at the same time as Nightcrawler, yet Kurt is brought into the fold while Todd is literally left on the streets.

Kitty comes from a loving family that supports her, while Lance is a mutant foster kid tossed from home to home. Guess which one is sought out and recruited?

It really makes the whole thing look less like Xavier is trying to protect young mutants, and more like he's picking and choosing which kids will be a better fit for his child militia.

Though I guess the thing with Pietro gets a pass because that whole episode was really a family matter.
>>
>>93938867
They offered Toad a membership, Scott was trying to recruit him, but he declined after going to the mansion and getting in that fight with Nightcrawler

And they were cautious around Lance because of the destructive nature of his powers and how he was already abusing them. Before they could even try to recruit him, Mystique got to him.

But the Brotherhood boys all had standing offers at the Institute. Xavier let Lance join for an episode in season 2. It was Scott who drove him off.

I mean if Xavier wanted a child militia then the poor foster kids who are outcast, don't have homes and keep getting into trouble are far easier to manipulate. Bail them out of jail a few times and they'll feel indebted to him.
Which is basically what Magneto had Mystique do with them.
>>
Goth Rogue was the best thing about this show. That and how much it shitted on Jean

Dani isn't a werewolf. She was a psychic who could project fear illusions. And then a Valkyrie. And then a reality warper. At one point I think she had psi-arrows like Psylocke's knives.

The Scottish werewolf girl was Wolfsbane aka Rahne Sinclair

DESU, it's not all that bad. When you look at the character model sheets, they gave him a very feline body type, and rules for how he was/wasn't allowed to be posed. The hologram watch negates some of those rules, but it's still kinda neat to see that some things are followed. Like the low seated pants actually line up with his real hips

it gave Jean more clear characterization than I've ever seen

Evolution actually focuses on the important distinction conceptually that the X-Men were originally wayward teens, going through that awkward transition from child to adult

it made them much more relatable

Still never got Kurt and Rogue's freaking out on Mystique. It was one thing with Rogue "getting back" by smashing her mother's petrified form, but what the hell suddenly made Nightcrawler decide "Fuck you, mom!" as well after he had previously been all weepy about that statue incident?

I dunno. I vaguely remembered catching it a few times when I was younger, but binged the full series probably about six months ago. I really enjoyed it despite not having much in the way of nostalgia for it.

It's not like say, Pete and Pete, which comes up frequently when people say "hey, remember X", and everybody goes "ohhh yeeaahh!". But then you watch it and it's nowhere near as good as you remember it being. Pete and Pete sucked balls. Evo was decent enough that I enjoyed watching it again despite being 30.

It... adapted several storylines, or tried. They got most personalities right. (Wolverine had been regressed to bad boy mode a bit at the time.) A lot of cool X-Men, mostly from the Gold team or Excalibur, were missing, and they didn't use the future/alternate reality characters much.

10/10 read it IN HIS VOIIIICE

That cartoon defined what Apocalypse should sound like to me. Singer's film version was far too subdued.
>>
>>93968593
They adapted a lot of the comics, but the episodes rush through everything and take the edges off for kids. Also switches some characters out to fit the fixed cast they had which is pretty inaccurate to Claremont's comics as those were always in motion with people coming and going. It's also cheesy as fuck, although that's arguably accurate to the comics.
>>
>>93968859
>future

That show taught me nihilism before I knew what that was
>>
>>93968102
>>93964224
My dick defends the girls wearing skimpy black leather.

And it was very tame for a GRLPWR episode, the moral is they need to get along to save the day. The Bayville Sirens is treated as a silly teen outburst, whereas modern Marvel would have them be more competent.
>>
>>93968867
Maybe I was slightly too young for a lot of cartoons to attract my attention like that's. It wasn't until anime (certain Toonami and Adult Swim shows) that I saw a carton character and thought it was attractive.

Looking back now I have no idea how I didn't though. I wasn't uninterested in sex even at that age.

>>93968245
As soon as I read "Pete and Pete" the nostalgia and positive feelings came rushing in. At no time do I want to watch that show so I don't ruin that nostalgia. In my mind that show is as funny and anarchic and inspired as I remember it. Which is weird because I fully know most the other stuff I watched as a kid was garbage and don't have an interest in "preserving" those memories.
>>
>>93928298
It was pretty good for a heavily censored cartoon with limited resources. It managed to capture the feel of the comics, or most of it.
>>
>>93969354
Also the sound effects, like Cyclops beans, Magneto's magnestism, Wolverine claw's unsheating etc, were superior in the 90's cartoon. I can't imagine the sound of their powers differently from the 90's cartoon.

Both of these. It really felt like watching a Claremont comic book come to life. It was, for its time, genuinely good in terms of serious storytelling.

If only Spider-Man and X-Men TAS had non-crap animation, they'd practically be B:TAS level.

I remember like, one or two Bishop appearances, only remembered he wasn't a fixed X-Man. Don't remember Cable getting a lot of love (did they bring in Stryfe?), and any Rachel at all.
>>
>>93969484
Rachel was like in one shot of some episode, I think, but yeah, the Summers family was pared down.

Cable did appear - and fought Bishop once IIRC - but they only hinted at his connection to Scott and Jean.

Loved it as a kid, and aside from the animation, it totally holds up as an adult. In fact, I probably enjoyed it more when rewatching it because its so richly informed by the comics that I'm morw familar with now. Great voices, decent to fantastic writing and incredible world building and comic accuracy. Plus, best opening and character designs

She was kind of blonde and brown in Wolverine and the X-Men. Her situation there was a little confusing though.

It's probably one of those situations like Spectacular Spider-Man where they had a few blondes and changed Liz up to differentiate. Brown Liz and Magma were super cute though.

I wonder if her crazy original origin from New Mutants will ever be adapted. It's interesting that she got more attention here than other New Mutants as well.

I wonder how Season 2 would have treated Scott. Season 1 had him go all X-Men 3 just to justify taking him out of the leadership role (though it's puzzling why Storm wouldn't step up) but would he have been stable enough in Season 2?

It's funny that Wolverine was able to be such a Mary Sue while being a shitty leader. It's really the only thing I couldn't stand about the show, which sucks I guess since it was his show. I can't imagine how it would have been done if it remained the solo show that the higher ups wanted.

They never knew what to do with Spyke. He was such a generic character and being an OC didn't help net him any fans. He was kind of written bipolar as well. I think he could have just slid down to New Mutant status but shipping him off to the Morlocks worked.

She is 100% wolverine DNA. They doubled the x chromosome because of damage to the y. She looks like her mother because she heals to her expectation like wolverine. She spent her first years in a cell and the only one to touch her was her mother. So she estuck to that image in her head. Its the reason wolverine hair always grows back to the same shape. Its an internal image of oneself.

She had his eye color is some of the early comics. Kurt says it in one she's got your eyes Logan. They switch it back and forth and I think they settled on her eyes being green and his are blue.

Doesn't Professor X tell the families that he will teach their children at his private school? So why were they sent to public school?
>>
>>93980398
Hopefully that was some stipulation from The WB or something because I will always look at it as dumb. How weird would it seem that a bunch of unrelated kids are living at some rich guy's mansion, that they call a academy, yet they''re all students at your public high school? Are they foster kids? Except for Scott and Rogue, most of them come from stable two parent homes as well, so it's just weird. It would have been so much simpler to just make them private school kids. You could still have them interact and have conflict with local teens or whatever but they're being at Xavier's would at least make sense.

Did he even know that Mystique was the principal or that the Brotherhood was there? He just seemed to be leaving them open to some unnecessary danger.

They used TMS on Spider-Man:TAS but only a few episodes were kept in Japan as most of the episode were done in Korea and it shows (Korean studios were Koko/Dong Yang, Seoul Movie. Mizo Plaining, Samwon and a unknown 5th Korean studio).

Also TMS did not have their main animators on board on Spider-Man:TAS (Keiko Oyamada being one of the very few of them who did work this) as they were focused on Farewell to Nostradamus at the time (this is also why Yuichiro Yano was the only free director doing anything at TMS, namely most of the later season 1 episodes of Animaniacs and the Batman:TAS episode Read My Lips), whatever Japanese crew that did work on Spider-Man:TAS ended up working at/finding ufotable a few years later anyway.
