How does /co/ feel about China blacklisting Winnie the Pooh in China? Apparently it's because of pic related, they dislike the local internet meme using Winnie the Pooh characters in regards to comparing them to Xi Jinping and other world leaders.
>>
that's fucking funny
>>
>>93921954
wow, that's an incredible coincidence.

I personally love how Abe is depicted as Eeyore.
>>
Well, that settles it. I shall now refer to him only as Xinping the Pooh

>they dislike the local internet meme using Winnie the Pooh characters in regards to comparing them to Xi Jinping and other world leaders.
We need to create more memes of cartoon characters being compared to famous important Chinese people just to see what happens.
>>
>>93921954
That sounded so silly that I assumed you were joking, but looks like it's true.

Getting pissed off over Winnie the Pooh comparisons seems pretty hilarious.

Oh I get it.

It's just the latest part of China's increasing attempt to control the internet and censor all online content. Using euphemisms, like Winnie the Pooh, when talking about domestic politics has been a long time open secret solution to thwart the censorship watchdogs. The Chinese government has also lately taken down gay dating apps and banned all non-heterosexual depictions in all media. They're cracking down hard on a lot of stuff.

How aware are the Chinese people about the whole thing? Do they know that certain opinions and facts are suppressed but they see no way to fight back, or is the censorship so firmly rooted and successful that people don't even realize it's going on?
>>
>>93922344
Do it until they run out of characters. Then they have nothing left to bootleg.

What would happen if we memed Miracle Star?
>>
>>93922867
Oh they know, it's why the whole X means Y culture exists online in places like Weibo. It's one thing to think something and another to say it out loud, so most people just ignore it or try to adjust the best they can.
>>
>>93922867
what's the fifth and 4th message say
>>
I think you really only needed to say China once in that opening sentence.

But then we wouldn't know where China was planning on blacklisting Winnie the Pooh, after all, they could try to remove all depictions of this lovable cartoon bear in Tadzhikistan or Romania for an example
>>
>>93923068
The first message says "six four" (June 4th), the second says "student", and the third says "democracy movement". The fourth one combines those words together and gets censored. The fifth one says
>My birthday is on June 4. I am a student. I’m reading a book about democracy movements.

These keywords are innocuous in most contexts and that's why they don't get blocked in the first three messages. But when they appear together inside the same post, the censorship system assumes that the person's trying to talk about the Tiananmen Square protests.

You're forgetting the bullshit concept of "face" most Asians have and their collective culture. They might think that things that expose their country as a 3rd world authoritarian shithole shame them as a people, and censorship that suppresses talks of such things is good by extension.

I've encountered something similar when talking about porn censorship with a Jap: most of them don't like it, but think "it's for the best" at the same time.

China is the weirdest country of childish retards in the fucking world. They're even weirder than North Korea, because they somehow manage to function despite being run by brain-dead chimps.

Therefore,

>repeat for every major media franchise within other conglomerates
>meme our global economy into ruin

Genius.
