>John Cunningham, DC Entertainment, senior vp sales: If I look at books we shipped out of [DC's book market distributor] Penguin Random House last year — books shipped to bookstores — DC Super Hero Girls: Finals Crisis was our No. 2 book on units. Our No. 1 book was The Killing Joke. So our list goes, Batman: The Killing Joke, DC Super Hero Girls: Finals Crisis, Suicide Squad Vol. 1, Watchmen, Preacher. And what that number [for DCSHG] doesn't include is our Scholastic Book Club sale, which is of a quantity which is greater than what I show shipping out of Penguin Random House.

I was going to quote that as well. And he's talking about non-Diamond sales, which is not what we are looking at in this thread. Plus which he's talking ACTUAL SALES, not the shipping BS that passes for Data Points on these threads.

>>93920240
These are actually different things. DC SHGs sells well in Diamond stores/LCS AND also sells well on Amazon, B&N, and your standard local bookstores.

IF the NYT still listed GNs, you would see it reflected there (which is why the NYT figures didn't always match up 100% with the Diamond TP "sales" figures.
>>
>>93922524
>IF the NYT still listed GNs, you would see it reflected there (which is why the NYT figures didn't always match up 100% with the Diamond TP "sales" figures.
what are you talking about because the pic isn't nyt it's just bookstores in general and comichron lol
>>
>>93914796
just saying but since Marvel published several new things and because of the events it's possible that Harley Quinn isn't selling fewer copies but other books are selling more.
>>
>>93920240
are those real numbers? were they leaked? or diamond stuff?
>>
>>93922856
Yeah, Harley's only selling a couple of thousand fewer than it was this time last year. It's not the powerhouse it once was, but it has been over three years.
>>
>>93922228
OMG that was baaaad
>>
>>93922524
>Plus which he's talking ACTUAL SALES, not the shipping BS that passes for Data Points on these threads
So, Diamond sales reports are actually worthless?
>>
>>93920196
I'm very interested in actual sales since Disney buys Marvel products nowadays.
>>
>>93922908
I think those are Bookscan numbers, aka sales to Barnes/Noble, Chapters/Indigo, etc.
>>
>>93922978
Nah, knowing how many copies retailers ordered is pretty useful. Their estimates aren't 100%, but pretty good, otherwise they wouldn't be in business still.
>>
>>93923002
>retailers ordered
Problem is that it also includes the free overship copies that Marvel orders and has sent to LCS's
>>
>>93922978
Not necessarily worthless, but they aren't completely accurate either. I would say that you should not depend on them.
>>
>>93922908
The left is bookscan numbers i.e. the only bookstore numbers we'll ever know
Some guy on CBR who moved to comicsbeat does how many sold in a year and posts it sometimes in march/april

The right is comichron numbers i.e. the only LCS numbers we'll never know
>>
>>93922996
Then the numbers diamond shows are actually very superior, right?
>>
>>93923046
Yes, but you can use Retail vs. Unit Shares to get a general idea of overshipping.
>>
>>93923219
The graphic novel growth is in bookstores.
>>
>>93922978
Not entirely, you just have to know what you're looking at. They're wrong if you look at them as pure sales reports, but they do give you an idea of how retailers are speculating direct to reader sales with their orders. This is especially useful for seeing drop offs after #1s.

These days you have to factor in stuff like loot crates and Marvel's overshipping/variants scams, but these are still useful figures to have.

What would be nice is if Comixology would ever release solid numbers for digital sales instead of just a ranking, but I doubt that'd ever happen.
>>
>>93914270

I wouldn't say the first issue was old fashioned. It even featured RiRi ffs
>>

when I began to read comics and the sales report indicated batman was selling 100,000 copies I thought this industry was really small since a manga had sold 2.6 millions that year, but if the actual sales are very superior it could be more reasonable.

What else is new?

Why is Daredevil so fucking low? It's probably the only decent book Marvel's putting out

It's always Marvel when Harley doesn't sell, right?. Harley is bleeding readers right this moment, the book needs a change ASAP otherwise the book will be selling below the 35k by the end of the year. Dino and his backup isn't doing the trick, neither is Palmiotti stories
>>
>>93924372
It doesn't work in that way, it's very hard for a book to improve its sales normally the book gets cancelled and then they try something new in a new book
>>
>>93925636
That's Marvel talk. Creative team changes can boost a book if it's the right team. This is how things worked for decades.
>>
>>93925689
Examples would be appreciated
>>
>>93924372
Harley Quinn could bleed slowly until its death under 20Ks and then a new title for the character would take its place
>>
>>93925728
Anytime a big name writer takes over a title, sales go up.
>>
>>93925636
DC doesn't even need to relaunch Harley, they just need to kick out Palmiotti and Conner and replace them with someone else and make it shown in the cover like "Under New Management" like in her old solo

>>93925935
I would accept a new book as long as Palmiotti and Conner aren't involved in it
>>
>>93926190
but DC doesn't give great writer to a comic isn't selling, i could be wrong so examples?
>>
>>93926371
*writers
>>
>>93926371
Detective Comics was selling 35,000, DC gave it to Snyder which boosted it to 40,000.
>>
>>93926537

That's not much
>>
>>93926549
It'd have a bigger effect now that Snyder has established himself. When they gave him Detective, he didn't have much of a reputation.
>>
>>93926614

But then again, it's Batman. How much more can a Harley Quinn book truly sell?
>>
>>93926829
Harley used to be one of DC's best sellers.
>>
>>93926353
>I would accept a new book as long Palmiotti and Conner aren't involved in it.

if you hate Palmiotti so much you should be happy that the book is going to be substituted with something else.
>>
>>93926909
Who says I'm not?. Hell DC could give Harley solo to Leth or Slott and I'll be happy
>>
>>93926888

You mean least worst? N52 doesn't count lol
>>
>>93926968
It was a top 10/20 seller in its first year.

>No RHatO Rebirth
Got excited when it was 100 in May and thought it could possibly go higher, but that's what happens when you have hopes and dreams.
>>
>>93926968
hehehe It's true however Harley sold 70,000 for like 2 years and at some point it was in the top 10 several times.

I think DC is very disposed to invest in Harley books.
>>
>>93927211
>I think DC is very disposed to invest in Harley books.

It's why she got so many specials during the first 2 years (Gang of Harleys, Black Book, San Diego Comic Con, Valentine's, Christmas, Harley & Pee-Gee)
>>
>>93926968
>the time it sold the best doesn't count

>70K

What the fuck, that's like twice as much as Superman. I didn't realize it was that successful
>>
>>93927297
that was more like they were taking advantage of the situation at that time but she's an important product now so DC isn't going to abandon it just because, if new stuff failed however she could be like Superman was for a while until the next movie in 2 years.
>>
>>93927449
There's a reason why Lee called her the fourth pillar

When he said that only Snyder's Batman and Johns' JL sold more than her regularly

Also you know all the merch she sells but the point is she sold great in comic form
>>
>>93927449
her #1 sold 93Ks in 2013 but what I couldn't understand was how did it get a 6th print, I don't know, maybe DeadPool was so popular back then that both sold the same, i don't remember DeadPool's numbers but it was big.
>>
>>93927521

I didn't realize her comics sold well. I always thought she was just popular with "nerdy" girls because of the cartoon or Arkham games. I also always thought she was pushed down our throats and overexposed but I guess that's what people wanted all along
>>
>>93927521
I remember that it was a embarrasing situation in 2015 cause she outsold JusticeL and everything else except for Batman, but JLee said that in January this year, Harley Quinn #1 sold 400,000 so it outsold Batman #1 a little bit.
>>
>>93927650
Indeed she was popular because of the cartoon and Arkham games, that's the power of normies.

Interesting, Marvel is going downhil in the top 20
>>
>>93929546
They also did some pretty big overships for a bunch of titles in June so a lot of their series could be even lower.
>>
>>93929622
They don't care about comics anymore, Disney is making enough with movies. Their sales are really low and they release Legacy, of course the cover is the most important thing
>>

>SpoderGwen in that list

WTF
>>
>>93929896
What happened?
>>
>>93929896
You realize that Gwenpool was at these numbers back in May:
Gwenpool #15 15,624 (rank 154)
Gwenpool #16 15,500 (rank 156)
She hasn't been in the top 100 in a while.
