You're missing the point. Retconning a universe's timeline doesn't actually hit the undo button. If you were to look at the timeline as some weird 4 dimensional being, just looking at some big ass Universe frog, you would see the Alpha timeline and all of the doomed timelines branching off and withering away. But then for a retcon you would see the Alpha suddenly as two streams running parallel to each other, with one abruptly stopping. The stop point being when the retconner made the change, the sudden parallel streams being the point the retconner made the change to. That unretconned piece of the timeline that abruptly stops still exists, and is still accessible as we've seen time and time again.

That piece of time that sent Vriska's ghost into the Outer Rim (where it wouldn't be overwritten at the moment John went back from) to slowly degrade into a horrible weenie still exists. John didn't stop that moment from existing, he just created a new series of events, that would supercede those events going forward.

the earliest point in the homestuck timeline john goes to when messing around with retcon powers is on pre-reckoning alternia, and he interrupts the dolorosa walking around with the sufferer. I would imagine that from then on the timeline has to 'repeat' its events but taking into account the causality of john's actions. anything before he met the dolorosa is exactly the same as in the Game Over timeline essentially, but anything after that point is somewhat different because of john.

Okay it turns out the shitty image didn't save properly and all I have is a half finished xcf, so I'll just try and explain it in text.

The intermission is hailed as like, the best example of Hussie's ability to handle causal time travel. It has basically nothing wrong with it and it all loops in great (ignoring the great time travel paradox of, 'if time travel exists, why aren't people from other timelines hopping everywhere infinitely'). there's a moment where spades slick pries open a vault however. it makes him travel to a 'highly unfavorable timeline' a timeline where all of the felt and MC are dead apart from him and snowman. this timeline we later discover is the Game over timeline. He kills snowman, becomes robojack and finds Die's doll. he summons the felt from other timelines, and enters the alpha kids' session.

john promptly retcons all of this. travelling all the way back to the dolorosa and begins his changes to rally vriska and her army to fight LE etc.

the problem here is, he makes it so the trolls' session restarts. their jack noir makes his exile loop and ends up on alternia again. if all the time travel in the intermission was causal, then that'd be great.

if not for the crowbar. slick has it and he pries open the vault again. making him travel to another timeline, where he will continue to become robojack, summoning the felt etc. making it just in time to fight the kids at the end. but he can't, he just left the new 'alpha' timeline by prying open the vault.

the only way this can somehow work is if him prying open the vault just kills all of the felt and MC, and allows him to continue without actually hopping timelines. but then this ruins the consistency of the intermission and time travel in homestuck as a whole. plus I think that would make the crowbar's timeloop make no sense.

Vast Error is made by austinado and someone named Sparaze, only austin had anything to do with Act 8 and from what I know, was the best thing they had going for them and wrote the only in-character bits in the entire thing. Like when Dave and Dirk discussed the final SBaHJ moive.

Just started trying out Vast Error because of the talk about it in the thread, not super far into it yet but I'm not seeing any issue with it.

In fact the writing and the art is pretty quality, which from what i've seen on mspfanventures in the past minus those continuation adventures, is a huge improvement over most everything.

It's really reminding me of the old days of Act 5 Act 1, though at least so far, in some regards I think this one is beefing up the allure of it's plot better. Because in A5A1 you already already mostly got the gist of what its plot was going to be initially.

This isn't just that same tired plot again and it's already leagues above everything else on the site because of it.

VE liveread anon here again.

Definitely discovering very fast that Murrit is the best troll in this comic and maybe one of the best fantrolls I've ever seen at least from a fun writing perspective. The rest are all good, but this guy steals the fucking show every time he's on screen and I love it.

That said, one of the most interesting things that have now come up (in the middle of Murrit's intro) is that there's actually a long stretch about troll sex and reproduction and how that leads into ancestry. Apparently these trolls take fucking like emotional, marraige-esque ties and they can't just do it at random, their feelings have to be in line for each other.

So obviously these trolls are all like Mormons.

It's very obvious that whatever this planet is, its that it's dying and it isn't Alternia or Beforus. Because seadwellers only represent 0.1% of the planets population (unless The Condesce is one of them) and they also breed differently, using DNA from Service Droids to artifically make grubs after their donor has passed away and give them their sign.

It's neat and different troll lore, there's obviously been a lot of thought and effort put into this and that makes me pretty happy.
