I would've thought Tree Trunks being the star of the episode would be enough for you to find the episode distasteful. There's always sloppy episodes that are senseless. But luckily these episodes don't ruin the other fantastic episodes. Season 5.2 and season 6 is the worst of the show, but even though it's the worst it isn't completely horseshit. There are quite a few great episodes in season 6, and there are some poor ones. You're going to start seeing a lack of Finn and Jake and more focus on side characters. Not as much in season 7 onward. The show picks up again in season 7

I quit Adventure Time due to a lot of bullshit but the one thing I did like with the newer seasons was morally ambiguous PB. While she did have a personality in the early seasons, she was incredibly flat and didn't bring much to the table beyond "Girl Finn wants to fuck".

Her more morally ambiguous episodes later on gave her a lot more depth as well as more opportunities for dark humor an banter, which was great. Bitch PB was the best decision the new seasons decided to go with.

I haven't seen the episode, but from what it reads off your post it certainly doesn't seem meaningless. The people of Ooo are being swayed by the supposed 'King of Ooo' because he is either using language (which is power/ful) or, if not, and if he is just making claims, then he rivals PB in terms of status because Kings and Queens don't really have power, nor the right to rule. They simply believe they do and make others believe it too, normally with force like an army.

So PB "can't find proof" against his claims because it would also expose her powerlessness to everyone. To compensate, like most autocracies do, PB uses force. She imprisons the dissidents to cover up the secret that she has no power.
