Thee Buckets definitely feels like the result of the cancellation. Feels rushed.

Fern was a creepy villain, but he was never properly explored. Was he just a copy of Finn? He never really was, he always tried to be Finn and never himself, even though an earlier episode established that he'd try to be his own person.

Is it meant to be his tragic flaw? That he could never live up to being Finn? Who knows, he didn't live long enough, he just came to the conclusion that it was "his turn to be Finn" then died before we could understand why he treats human life like garbage.

And what the hell was with that scene right at the end? Why cheapen the impact off what is essentially the most brutal kill the show has ever had in order to elude to something that will probably never have the chance to be fleshed out properly.

It simple, either it remain canon and thus is stuck with nothing in it having to impact the show, as
1. the show runners and comic writter are far too much out of sync to ever work together, not to mention the network broadcast who can dely things even further.
2. in the end, the show runners don't want to include event only the comics readers might know about, thus being detrimental to those only watching the show.

It result in the comic being uneventful and uninteresting.

Making the comic a separate continuity is the only way to make it worth reading, as you can actually make things that matter.

And that's the gist for most cartoon show having a comic running alongside.

I’ve been following Adventure Time threads all day in response to the latest episode I worked on: “Wizards Only, Fools”. I think the dialog happening about the rules of Ooo in regards to magic and science is really cool. I’m too tired right now to use a better word than “cool”.

First off I’d like to make clear that I wasn’t intending on my part to break the magic of Ooo. (One of the worst crimes of fantasy was George Lucas introducing midichlorians!) From my point of view, magic in Ooo exists. Why even call into question such a thing! BUT in my day to day living I’m always fascinated by perspective: when talking to friends and addressing their ideas, it’s endlessly beautiful how we can share identical external experiences and come away with different affirmations. I think about this every day pretty much.

So for Princess Bubblegum, the meaning of her shared external experience is different from Jake’s. And I empathize with PB a great deal because she is relentlessly seeking truth. From my perspective there is no truth… only fleeting applicable ideas that change forever. In helping to write the episode, it wasn’t important (for me) to impart an idea of who is right or wrong about magic and science in the land of Ooo. The characters simply are who they are, and will act according to how they see themselves. If there is a moral to be gained from “Wizards Only Fools”, it wasn’t intentional. On my part at least.

He got possessed by the curse demon by the time he and Finn were actually fighting, but even then I think he was too pissed. Too much resentment at being shitty and wanting his old life back.
Only way he could have come back from it is if he actually performed well in Whispers, but that was never really on the table since being sort of crap is just who Fern is.

So I just realized according to the AT team that was the end of season 8.
All in all, really good season, only episode I actually thought was bad was the Fionna and Cake one. So I think that's one bad out of 26 good. Real good season I'd say.
