have an idea, and due to me being a scrubby writer it'll come off cliche, but I really want this idea to work, so please, I need honest feedback.
So, world were there is just humans, none of that d&d shit.
This world would be pretty bland, had it not been for the humans being able to master magic.
Eventually, a huge black ball collides with earth, conveniently landing near the main human settlements.
It emerges, reveals itself to be a huge ass monster and goes on to do typical Godzilla stuff.
Eventually the humans are able to kill it, but then, the human who struck the final blow to it became possessed and turned into the beast.
And so began a cycle, monster gets killed, person who kills it becomes monster, repeat.
Eventually, they realize that there is no way to truly kill it, so the humans form a society called the sealers and are able to seal the monster into a cave, causing peace to reign if not for a group of people who worship the invincible beast, who want to go out, kill the sealers and unleash the beast, killing it and somehow splitting the power up among them all.
Pretty much power hungry regular bad guys who wanna be bad.
The story wouldn't have a "chosen one" cliche and would focus on the key figures for both fractions, as well as the occasional page dedicated to the beast's POV

Posted last thread, need ideas to improve on it

It's a non-cliche way to use cliche elements. Everybody does it!

does anyone in the setting ever look into the reason behind this thing? why there's shit like this in space, whether there's any danger of more of it coming? or is it just a force of nature which they're too busy holding down to have any higher thoughts about it

Hi.

Would anyone here draw a comic for me?

Would you like to know the idea of my comic?
>>
>>93877700
The beast is such an powerful force that yes, the sealers have to work 24/7 to seal it in its cave
Plus with the cultists trying to get
In, they kinda don't care about it's origins.

well

the idea is a Comic Of Lydia Fox (From Arthur)

With the original idea that Connor Gordon (The Original Creator Of Lydia) had for her

The comic would be of lydia (with 7 years of age)

while she was in a pool. and it is immersed in the shallow end of the pool, and suffered a spinal injury that paralyzed from the waist down.

Instead of directly inking I'm now making a sketch prior and it's making fantastic work for me. (In other words I'm being more patient with my work)
>>
>>93877868
Okay, as long as there's a sensible reason. The only thing that bothers me as a reader is when there's this impossibly massive problem in the world, and absolutely nobody is thinking about the cure, only the treatment, even after ages and ages. Especially if it's some blunt metaphor about modern problems.
But if they have a legitimate reason to focus all their energy on surviving and the task at hand, then that is fine. Like Shingeki no Kyojin kinda stuff.

>>
>>93878442

>>
>>93878342
The idea of the comic is Lydia (the fox girl) this she in a pool. And that she dives into the shallow end of the pool, and that she suffered an injury to the spine, that Lydia was paralyzed from the waist down.
>>
>>93878421
I guess it makes sense if we think of it as a SnK thing, with the deal of sealers having to be working all days at all hours to keep the beast sealed because of how powerful it is.

Although this gives me the idea that maybe there could be a third faction that dosn't really want to use the beast's power but want to study what it is instead? They may not have bad intentions (they may even think that by studying it they can find a way to stop it once and for all) but some of them may actually do some risky stuff that makes them a menace.

>>93877868
Actually Shingeki no Kyojin is a good example of a comic (well, manga if you want to be too picky) to check on for this, even if it's not typical fantasy.
>>
>>93878440
Those designs actually look quite cool.

As for females, you have to remember 4 important steps.

>boobs
>more hips
>less waist
>no bulge

how much boobs, hips or waist they have is up to you to play with.

bonus step of "not too wide shoulders", in that aspect men are usually more "square" than women.
>>
>>93877643
Why is the monster's initial reaction to landing on a foreign planet, just wrecking things?
Considering the story you've provided and the aim you want to approach, I would begin the story off in the middle of a scuffle between these two factions.
I like the other anon's idea too, just kind of a neutral size getting caught up in the mess.
>>
>>93878599
ah yes. Not to continue to draw comparisons to other series, as that's a shallow and frustrating way to analyze things, but ... there's something a bit like that in Wheel of Time's backstory, and I've always liked it. The idea of well-meaning researchers screwing things up a bit is fantastic.
Oh, Chrono Trigger too. Not sure who did it first. plus in both of those cases, nobody was sure the thing in question even existed or had any idea that it was evil, so you won't be stepping on toes with your faction, probably.
>>
>>93878683
Thanks for the tip, but I was honestly more so talking about the face department.
>>
>>93879110
shorter face, narrower chin, bigger eyes, rounder hairline,
larger, rounder cranium.
>>
>>93879110
Oh I see, sorry about that.

Well the only thing I can say there is that women tend to have more soft facial traits, at least when you want to go with the average female face. Bigger/rounder eyes, eyelashes, a bit smaller noses, more notorious cheekbones. Of course you can also play with those things so they don't look like a Disney Rapunzel clone, but expect people to go with "why does this woman have a manly face"?

I've read SnK, but I don't want for their plots to be somewhat similar

You see, the reason why the sealers keep going to seal him away is because their magic is weak and can't hold long, so they have to keep a constant maintenance.
This is why the cultist want them dead
I've been thinking though, what if the sealers waste most of their power weakening the beast and still shielding him, like they used so much of it that the beast has been turned into a more..tame form?
I dunno here's some sketches, and yes i know it's a stick figure, I just can't thinking about making him look....normal like?
Anyone willing to help out with him artwise?

Also, I like the third faction idea, the faction that actually wants to learn about this thing, but isn't trusted by the sealers..
>>
>>93879310
Yeah I was just suggesting it's the same kind of "Oh well, this is our lives now" attitude, which is all you can do when the monster is that... monstery
I like the idea of it legitimately weakening over time, so they've made a form of progress after all
>>
>>93879310
Tame form? That does sound interesting.

Also for a moment I thought the eye was a fang and I was going to comment on how cute the beast turned out after some taming

It's late, so sorry for the horrible quality
Yes that's my excuse

So, say that during the plot the cultists find out thatvthe beast is getting "tamed" and stage an all out attack by breaking into the cave..somehow.

The beast is freed, the cultist rejoice, but they realize that the beast is too weak after all this time and that he's not really worth it at the point.

The beast is freed, and the third faction decides to really step in..

>The beast is freed, the cultist rejoice, but they realize that the beast is too weak after all this time and that he's not really worth it at the point.

What a bunch of meanies, now I feel bad for the poor beast. If he is really being "tamed" this may even lead to some interesting things.

Well anon you are now making your plot bigger and thinking of more paths to follow, this is all good work and exercise for your story. Glad our advices are helping you so far.

For my comic I sometimes make playlists for some of my characters with music they'd like in them. Mostly 90s electronic music since that's the general vibe of my works though.

When I work on resources for my videos I mostly listen to the album I actually have permission to use in it. If anyone here has played "Battleblock theater", it's an album made by the same composer. Though it was made back in the 90s for a fictional video game. Criminally underrated.

This looks nice when zoomed in and you have a lot of skill but it needs more focus. When I look at it my eyes aren't drawn to anything in particular and so it becomes kind of an eyesore. Maybe try differentiating the characters from eachother and the backgrounds by using bolder outlines on what the focus is. Also since your color palette is so light I might do those panel dividers in black or a dark color so the panels are easier to differentiate.

I'm thinking this is how I want the Demi-urge in my comic to look basically humans get there mana from them and the mana is a lot weaker in the humans. This is back story stuff because the story I want to tell takes place during the age of man. The Dem-urge are responsible for a lot of the technology on the planet as well as the guns although the urge only really love to use melee weapons when they battle. I don't usually do sketches like this only really to show y'all, I mostly use the notes app and jot things down when they hit me.

Thanks! And yeah I've kind of felt bad for taking so long with all of this but I really do think it's for the good of the end product.

As for the reviews, I'm starting off with my series "Forgotten Gaming" which just focuses on my shareware and abandonware collection that all have little to no documentation online and are mostly awful. I'll be doing actually good games later on but haven't really planned it out yet since I already have those other projects going on. The first actually well known games I'd review would definitely be 90s sci-fi though, and the system shock series is among my favorites.

I want to give my webcomic a website-that-belongs-to-a-fansub-group-who-scans-manga aesthetic.

Also I wonder if I should try to make incomplete stories, I wonder if anyone has tried this before, stories that start in chapter 8 and make references to things that were never ever be published.

Realized the whole system is bullshit and started drawing for fun.

I've got a modest following on Webtoons and Tapastic for my comic. Getting tired of gag-a-day, want to draw an adventure comic sometime between now and when I die, so I may as well get started now since I dont necessarily when that latter part is gonna happen.

First time posting here!
I wanted to get some advice about shading, and if its needed. Here are three different versions
>>
>>93902545
I suggest more shading detail the bigger the characters.. so the guy in the foreground can have his three-tone shading like at the bottom, but the guy he pushes aside looks weird with more than two-tone, and the background people should be unshaded
>>
>>93902545
I must admit I'm not good at giving specific advices over shading since it's one of my weakest points. I only know you must take into account from where the light(s) come from so the shadows don't look all over the place.

As for your examples, last one is really good, giving the scene a lot of depth with those shadow levels.

Yeah, maybe I'm setting unrealistic expectations for myself. I'm not the best artist EVER, but I'm good at what I like to draw, and maybe I should just focus on improving naturally instead of wondering why the hell I fucked up on a tiny line in the corner of a drawing and letting that depress me out of drawing for a good few months. It's not that I don't love drawing. I love drawing. I can't stop doodling on my fucking work notes for example. I just can't produce quite like I used to anymore.

You gotta think, before the Digital Era, we didnt have social media, or big sites to post our work on for people to see and judge. You kinda just had to trust yourself.
The thing is, when you were a kid, you didn't draw for the approval of your peers, you drew because it was something you enjoyed doing, it was cool to see something you made yourself on the paper, even if it didnt look EXACTLY like the thing you wanted it to be.

You started to want to improve, so you sought out advice on social media and imageboards. As you grew, the opinions of your peers and contemporaries mattered much more to you, after all, it determines your social standing, and if you were a crap artist, you dont have much social standing at all.
So now we're driven to improve, but hesitant to show our work because it might not be "good enough," it might look bad, it might have an error.

Here's the thing, anon, it's gonna suck, its always gonna suck, and there will always be a critic somewhere out there in the world ready to tell you why it sucks.

Just keep drawing, dont worry how good or bad it is. Just have fun. And if you keep drawing, eventually it will start to suck less and less.

So how do you guys design your characters and how many notes do you have for them? Do you design based on the world or do you just kinda revise and revise until you find something that works? I'm not talking about clothing or body type either, I wanna know how you shape their personalities and very minor quirks.

I personally have about 20 pages of notes per character or more. They have everything from clothing fabric preference, to a timeline of injuries they've sustained, and detailed blueprints for any technology they might use. One of them even has a chart for skin graphed areas and their exact square cm measurements.
Pic related are some designs I'm playing around with. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
>>
>>93903214
Thank you. I don't know how often I give this advice out to other people and no one has ever actually said it to me. I think I really needed this.
>>
>>93903247
Its always awesome to have meticulous notes so that you yourself know the character inside and out. But how is this important to the reader or plot?

There can be such a thing as going too overboard with details that are unnecessary. Unless its important to the story, theres no reason for the reader to know the character's meticulous preferences such as preferred fabric or square cm of a specific scar.

>>93903281
No prob my man! Drawing is an enjoyable process, have fun with it!
>>
>>93903214
You are kind of ignoring the decade between the worldwide web and social media. there was a middle ground, remember? posting things online for yourself and real people, with no social media to coalesce people into crowds.
>>
>>93903247
I have occasionally thought about the anatomical distinctivenesses in my alien races, but almost never specific characters
>>
>>93903731
I guess what I'm talking about is the Internet Age in general. Think anything pre-1990
>>
>>93903247
I usually begin planning characters along with the setting of their story, and if one of those changes, the other does too.

I keep information about them by pretending I'm writing a wikia article. There I can keep every important aspect on a summarized way that lets me change them more easily later on and also check them quickly. Also keeps the "trivia" bits that nobody else but me thinks are important at hand.

As for character sheets I try to have on full size drawing and the rest play more on poses and expressions, mostly. Also if there is something important to highlight I may draw a close-up to that. I don't go with stuff like muscles tho, still a bit out of my general league.
>>
>>93903388
Likely no reader will ever notice 90% of the things I have written down, but they make it easier to draw for me. Certain fabrics fold differently from other fabrics, characters might move differently it they have an injury on a certain limb or joint, etc etc. Plus it helps me add detail accurately when I need to actually draw panels showing scars or high detail character shots.

sorry sometimes I forget you're younger than the n64. that fucks with my head, yknow?
it's an old, OLD game that's been revived every so often on newer hardware. you play kaiju destroying cities, punching holds in buildings, which will usually have something behind them, and then trying to eat that shit.. gaining or losing health depending what it is.. and fending off a bunch of tiny army guys, swatting at helicopters and whatnot. Just good basic fun.

Thanks! I wanted Tobie (the robot) to look comically primitive and janky. In the story they purchase Tobie from a vending machine under the description that it's a "Hospital droid" to aid in some injuries. Then they find out that the robot was literally just built to dispense suckers in the children's ward. Tobie still tries their best though. If you have any ideas on how to improve the design I'd like to hear them.

>Never cared about the guy with 3d glasses to be honest

Dupe isn't going to be in comic, he's just an in-universe avatar for myself I'm using for some game reviews to get my art some attention before starting the comic. I didn't really make him as an independent character, I just made him as a general mascot and a caricature to speak through. So it's understandable that he'd seem bland compared to others in-universe, I didn't want him to seem special at all in the context of the setting.

Oh no he is even more adorable now.

I guess he looks a bit less interesting than the other because he isn't colored yet, I personally think the design (no coloring considered) is alright, you can see the robot is kind of ill-prepared yet he still tries.

Yeah, that's kind of a difficult thing to fix.

The three other characters have in depth pasts and motivations and every item on them has a reason behind it. They'll have character arcs and development. Tobie has a place in the story but is still just a simple appliance given life. Their character isn't deep. The extent of their depth is that they like to watch aquariums because they wish they were a fish. Tobie is mostly just there for jokes. They also stay on the ship usually when the rest of them go out on missions so they have far less screentime. I made a simple design to fit a simple role and can't really think of much more to add.

Also they're based on a little tomy robot in my collection that cleans my desk.
>>
>>93910230
I must resist the urge to call cute every little robot I see.

I don't think there is much to fix on Tobie, given your reasonings. Even if their role is the one of the buttmonkey. Not every character has to be extremely complex, in fact a simple character like Tobie in the middle of everything can even give room to take a breath. Even the more simple design may actually help them "outstand" on the group seeing the other have more overdesign (in a good sense) on them.

More opinions are welcome for the cute lil fellow, but I think they are good as they are. and now my recaptcha doesn't believe that I'm not a robot. Sasuga

Dupe ive been watching you from the beginning and I dont think you have ever done any panel work, ive seen you do animated gifs and a ton of character art but you know actual panel work is a whole 'nother beast right?

So what are you going to do? Hire a panel guy to bring your comic to life? I could be that guy man, im available and I can mimic your style no problem, ive proven this in the past with some fan art of the green girl. I know her name, I just like calling her green girl. That was just for fun, I can do a million times better if im getting paid to do it.

Look man, when you go to hire anyone else besides me its going to be super expensive, here is my page rate just for you man because I want to help bring your world to life for you.

full color, backgrounds everything $10.00 a page

black and white $1.00 a page, and you color it yourself or hire someone to color it.

note me on deviantart man. lol

I promise you the cheapest rate your going to find with my skills or higher is 30 dollars a page minimum you might be able to negotiate 25 maybe even 20 dollars a page, im offering you 10 dollars a page full color and backgrounds and everything or just 1 dollar if you want to color it your self.

i offer speed and quality. ignore any haters that will tell you other wise.
>>
>>93910802

i forgot to mention i will do the first page for free. No script? No problem! I work well off ideas and stick figure chicken scratch story boards.

I remember now you saying that you were trying to mimic homestuck and i guess you dont need a panel guy if its going to be more of an online flash game than an actual webcomic... is that the case? You trying to do a prequel or homestuck kind of thing?

Your linework is super detailed and a ligne claire style like in blake and mortimer could do wonders to your work. Pic related.

Lol, it's a "Quest" comic meaning there aren't pages. Even then I'm the kind of person to just make an effort to learn something I need rather than take the short cut and pay someone to help me. I don't think I've ever commissioned someone for digital art and I doubt I ever will. Only thing I'd pay for is music and voice acting but it'd have to be close to pro grade.

Everything in the comic is shown one panel at a time via a monitor on an "omniscope camera satellite" and all the text is written below the panels in a "xenovox alien translation device". The readers will be able to talk to the characters through their "Hexxtor navigation client" that vegabond noobs use to help them make decisions when they're still new to the galaxy. Unfortunately our team's copy is pretty corrupt which accounts for what I'm sure some of the submissions will be like.

This is why I'm making an effort to do a separate attention grabbing project before launching the comic. It can't run without an audience.

For example this image right here could be an entire "page".
>>
>>93914758

Sorry if this kind of question gets posted often.
Would you say it's better to have a very clear outline of your whole story, how it ends, what the major events will be, what the main characters are like in detail, before you even start writing and drawing a comic?
Or that it's okay to just draw and write and build it as it goes, as long as you just have basic ideas? Also how important is it to make concept art before you start?
I'm worried that I will start and that after I make some progress I will get a lot of random ideas on events, what the characters look like, etc. that will make me want to start over again.
>>
>>93915962
I wouldnt say theres a better, just whatever works for you. For me, I like to have at least a few issues planned ahead before I do panel layout. And as ideas come to my head I will do concept art. So I'd say Im in the build as it goes camp, but I do have an end game that I always work towards.
>>
>>93915962
There isn't a real guideline for these things because are the kind that needs to be tailored to each author. Some work better if they have everything planned from the very beginning, others are just fine going with the flow.

If anything, having everything already well planned out and having concept art works better for consistency. There are many cases of people drawing their own characters for months then look at the first appearances and discover they kept morphing them into a new entity.

On the other hand, you can have a sort of "mixed" method. Have a sort of clear outline and all, but keep it open to new additions on the march. That way you can add new ideas and events without having to retcon most of your already established story.

>>
>>93915962
If your comic is more plot heavy than gag-heavy, I think it's better to have things planned out before drafting or storyboarding. As you progress to the drafting stage, things will change, dialogues, composition. Since my first script, I realized I had to add two more chapters to, though at first it seemed like I didn't need them.
It never hurts to make concept art, make them beforehand, make them during, any time, at the very least it'll cause you to think about designs and find out what works.

At least have some kind of destination or end point in mind, as it's a goal for you to work towards. If not the end of the saga, then at least the first chapter (and each chapter or major section after that).

Otherwise the hobbits will be wandering aimlessly through the Shire, instead of making their way to Bree (never mind getting them all the way to Mordor).

I'll leave a synopsis here for critique.

>girl almost gets hit by a truck while going to a coffee shop
>girl meets Death in the coffee shop, Death says she missed the girl and she should come with her
>the girl decides to trick Death into not taking her life by showing her things that she never gets to see on Earth, like chasing birds and eating ice cream
>later, the girl becomes depressed by being in such close proximity to Death for a long time
>tries to an hero
>doesn't die after several attempts
>turns on the news and realizes that Death stopped doing her job for the entire time she's been distracting her
>Death hasn't been taking ANYONE or ANYTHING for the entire time the girl's been distracting her
>Death tells her that death is unfortunate, but necessary
>the girl reluctantly accepts that she needs to die
>Death flashes them back to the coffee shop
>ends with the girl getting hit by the car and Death holding her hand and bringing her to the afterlife

I feel like this has no substance at all. It needs SOMETHING added to it, but I don't know what.

Hello! I had work yesterday, so I hope that excuses this late reply.
I think these pages are good, but pg9 has a lot of panels. It's not bad, it's still readable and the flow of word bubbles still works well. However, switching back to a 3/4ths shot of one character to the other I think is what is called the "180" rule. It get's a little boring to have to read through because there isn't a lot going on. To help break up the scene, I suggest a backup shot so that you can see both of them again, and that way your bubbles are also a little easier to read.
Pg10 is good too! But is still kind of lacking in the composition area (I struggle with that too in dialogue scenes). I think the last panel is really nice though.

I really did not expect them to fuck.

she's cute. you have the appealing features thing down, what you don't have yet is knowledge on how to construct a face (except from the front). Quickly look at a skull, see how the bulgy-outy part of the back of the head stops at the ears? then in front of the ears, the jawline starts. And see how the nose and mouth portion sticks out a bit? not as much as most animals, but somewhat? try integrating those two things and you'll be right on your way

Seems media is opening more to the idea of webcomics as both a source for talent and a way to show some extra material (kinda like what Overwatch and Team Fortress 2 does) and just like any other media, it's kinda flooded with average and shitty works, even more so because technically publishing a webcomic is kinda free and doesn't need to get to a publisher nor editor. Still iirc a webcomic is getting a movie of sorts, everybody knows what happened to ONE. It's a slow path but webcomics have still room to grow.

I think what works best, at least for me, is to come up with a clear and defined ending. You should come up with the ending first and then you create the journey to that ending. However, this is only one way to make a story, there's no real "right" way to create one.

You should take into account the '4 Ws"
Who?
What?
Where?
When?
How?

It's a stupid exercise I hated doing in middle school for reading class, but it really helps simplify the story process and summarizes the plot.

Also it's the magic of the "ch". Is the sound of it, it makes everything sound funnier. Some of our insults having "ch" on it too.
>>
>>93934496
kek Those weren't insults, they're racial slangs. And depending on the region they have different interpretation.
Chilangos = Brown weird accent people from the center of the country
Paisas = Short term for "paisano" which is a person the comes from the south of the republic, usually to try to jump the border
Pochos= People who were born in the USA but are of mexican origin, usually these are a second generation and are pretty stupid (they take the worst of both cultures) and tend to create the pathetic stereotypes we have in the US. If they manage to come to Mexico they be treating people like shit. Calling themselves superior for being "american". We don't usually like them.
>>
>>93934731
Chilango is the funniest thing when it comes to interpretation.

For the people of Mexico City it means "province people who came to live here", for the rest of Mexico it means "people who come from Mexico City".

Hell even some friends from Estado de Mexico used the chilango slang for people from CDMX, and taking it as the worst offense of someone confused them for one.

Would you make a webcomic if your art is still rough around the edges? Or not entirely anatomicly accurate? I've shown my art to artists at conventions, and was told that i still need to work on things. But I want to work on a comic even if my art isn't 100 percent where I want it to be. A friend told me to check out the original one punch man comic, and they said that I dhoulfnt worry too much about bad art.
>>
>>93944959
>A friend told me to check out the original one punch man comic, and they said that I dhoulfnt worry too much about bad art.
ya man , art isn't that important nowadays in comics. just focus on doing what you love
>>
>>93944959
So long as proportions arent grossly inaccurate or distracting, it should be fine. I keep in mind that viewers will skim through and dont usually nitpick the way the artist might. However, i think getting such things to perfection would be greatly appreciated by those who notice and will only add to your work. With time, your art will improve so long as you put forth the effort.
>>
>>93944959
Webcomics have the advantage that you can actively practice your art skills on actual work instead of just doing poses with no real context. If you start working until you have a perfect artstyle, you will be on an eternal path of never feeling you reached that perfect state. You can always improve and learn on the march.

Pic related is an example. I'm aware Bleedman is not the best example because he is a hack, but he started doing webcomics when his artstyle was that of the left and nowadays it's more like the one on the right.

Take all criticism as a way to imrpove your craft though, don't think that you don't need to improve just because you start without being a pro.
>>
>>93944959
Comics aren't like... commissions, or trying to create frameable art to sell. You don't have to be perfect, just good enough to tell a story. Half the guys in the funny pages can't draw for shit. The ones who can, choose not to.
>>
>>93944959
one punch man webcomic's art IS good, one had understanding of basic shading, perspective, proportions and gesture if anything you can use it as an example of how UNPOLISHED art can also be appealing

Yeah I agree.

I think his middle work is one of the best. He got some better grasp at anatomy and the like and although it looked more new anime-ish it still felt like there was effort on it.

Nowadays it just feels like he does them in the most lazy of ways, while also taken a lot of steps back on all the progress he did.

Hecktor: A small demon, with no one and nothing, looking for work as a detective.

Percy: A neurotic bat who serves as Hecktor's detective partner, despite being more keen.

Toby: A female spider who attempts to help Hecktor and Percy, despite usually getting ignored.

Theo: A gruff fish monster who serves as Hecktor's landlord and handyman.

Andy: A 10 year old ghost who recently died and is seeking some answers with Hecktor and Percy's help.

This is today's page, working on both characters personal dynamics. Although on these first pages I'm resorting to jokes for the cliffhanger, I'm not planning on doing it forever; but I suppose it's a necessity at the beginning of the story, until the action starts.

I think I'm slowly getting into a regular schedule mentality, but, alas, I'm not there yet.

would it be better to kill off a mentor to the mc or to let them live. said mentor and mc have this disagreement with each other until they fianlly get to know each other and until close to the end of the story they get killed for whatever reason.
>>
>>93952585
Think of what the mentor's role is in the story. Is it important that he stays alive? It would be any different if he stayed alive or if he died? Would his death move the plot or would be like "eh whatever one less person to draw"? Would his death bring any new motivation and conflict that helps my story and mc's development?

depends on the context of the story and importance on the mentor. Look at DBZ, Roshi's useless, then look at Mob Psycho 100. Reigen has nothing to teach to Mob, but his relationship with the kid is strong, it'd change everything in the comic if the mentor died. It really depends on the realtionship they have.

So are you going to draw it digitally, print it out, then rescan it? I'm liking these ideas. Start in chapter 8 and have chapter 9 be entirely a flashback to chapter 7

Then after you finish the story, post 'remastered' versions of the missing chapters that recontextualize everything, with commentary that constantly compares them to the nonexistent originals
>>
Opinion needed.

I have a character who's essentially an angel and I need a way to show them tapping into their Angelic powers. Is having their eyes glow Red, Gold or Purple a good way to show this? As I thought about it, it seemed a little animey to me. Am I just overthinking this?
>>
>>93954706
Red and purple aren't very angelic. How about a classical painting halo that shows up behind their head? Maybe a stylized one that factors into other motifs in your story.
>>
>>93953853
haha you spotted him alright. His style is unmistakable.
>>
>>93954706
Red usually is more related to demonic forces more than angelic, I think gold would be better. Or blue.

>>93954500

I envy people who have no problems to do feet. Dunno what can I say on this though, seems you got your stuff well.
>>
>>93954706
White. yellow, and blue are good angelic color schemes to use. If not glowing eyes, which seems pretty standard, you could envelop them in an aura.
>>
>>93954785
>>93954758
Ok, but does the concept of the glowing eyes seem a little to /a/?
>>
>>93954807
Glowing eyes of power as a concept is older than anything /a/ can offer.
>>
>>93954785
Haha, I still need to work on them, hands too, I'm far from good with them.
I sort of imagine them as sloped triangles/ pyramids with a ball at the point connecting them to the leg. Held in place with ankle joints (which I draw quite pronounce because I dunno I just do)

Then you just add the big toe, and sprinkle in the little ones. As for the bottom of the foot, just remember that its one rounded heel arching towards another less rounded part of the foot, from which the toes come from.

Feels weird to say this, but he needs a longer crotch. I know it's just prelim, but keeping an eye on your proportions because I love your shit but sometimes the proports get outta control a bit. His right arm is too long too.
He's a cool little pirate lad. what's his deal?
>>
>>93955196
I think you mean his left arm? (our right)
Yeah, I was noticing that before, I think I overshot that point where the wrist meets the hip, or maybe its just that the waist seems almost nonexistent?
He's the main character, so I'm trying to get in the habit of being able to draw him quickly, I should slow down a bit and make sure that part gets rendered well.

As for his story? He's just your run of the mill ne'er-do-well kid from the slums of a bustling port city. He gets in trouble a lot, but the town's officials usually let him off since he's the son of the late Captain of the the Guard, trying to prod him to try becoming the man his father was, but he's not having any of that.
One day, he takes it too far, and ends up with a light punishment of guard duty of some government official. The government official ends up transporting a big, ornate and mysterious chest via smuggler ship. The protagonist's mischievousness gets the better of him and he opens the chest while no one is looking. What's inside sets his life onto an adventure he never imagined.

please dont take that as an insult anybody, because, see, what you all fail to realize is unlike professional comic book artist, you dont actually need skill or talent to be considered good or make it, all you need as a webcomic artist is persistence and passion, seriously, look at the most popular webcomic... """"artists""" that have made it and have a huge fan base, your gonna see some awful ass fetish tier shit or just awful art in general, but even shit as bad as one punch man can make it and have their own anime because that dude was persistent, and passionate. thats it. webcomics are all about quantity and not quality, i have seen some really amazing artist, better than professional comic book artist have their webcomic die because they werent persistent enough with it because of the amount of skill and talent required to make pages they are not as autistic enough to spam the internet with thousands of pages of literal stick figure shit like homestuck so those super good artist with amazing page art was dead on arrival. thats just the way it is yall.

well, actually, Nina does dress her up as a goth for fun one day/page in the future, but she never goes full goth in any story arcs I have planned out so far

its still in its first arc which is 12 episodes/chapters long, which is about the average number of episodes in a season of a tv show or animated tv show.

I'm the writer of a writer/artist duo.

This is our site:http://www.capeworldcomics.com/.

We do superhero stories.

Every Monday there's an illustrated text story and every Friday a comic. When my artist isn't feeling so hot I put up pages from public domain comics and write re-imaginings of public domain superheros. The current text story is about substitute teachers taking a group of super-powered kids to a museum on superheroes. The comic story is about the first superhumans in the setting, two cavemen at the dawn of time, one destined to be the world's first superhero and the other destined to be his supervillian.

I appreciate any feedback about the art or stories you guys could give.

We've just started so there's not a lot on the site right now.

That's the comic, and this is from the illustrated text story about the kids and the museum.

One of their substitute teachers is a paranormal investigator. Her name is Ms. Cryptic, and she's a giant moth-owl-thing based on cryptids such as the Flatwoods Monster and Mothman.

And the filler is a re-imagining of public domain darling Daredevil!

He's currently sharing backstory with guest star Airboy (http://pdsh.wikia.com/wiki/Airboy), so there's not much action...yet.

But the next filler update has Daredevil fight the Luftwaffe...by jumping between the wings of their planes.

did you even post any comics in this thread? if you did your comic, style, and thread presence isn't very rememberable im sorry to say, because I looked at everyones comic in this thread, even dewdes shit, dewd may be the worst artist here but atleast his stuff is rememberable and he has a huge thread presence. But you... who are you? What was the name of your comic? Do you even have a comic?

Also work on your anatomy and stop being such an obvious weeb. Your welcome for the free advice.

Nah, there'll be cutscenes with dialog in them amidst the comic. I have a soundtrack for it as well. Making something interactive like a game would be too time consuming for else I'd do that.

For instance this image when implemented will be an animation background that starts at the top and scrolls down to the entrance with various things animated like the sign, ships and characters, then cuts to a scene of dialogue taking place indoors.

I've been drawing for awhile and I've finally decided to get a start on my comic. I only have a cover page done and I'm still writing my story, but it's a start!
And yes I know the cover isn't the best, it isn't finalized yet, but it's something...
>>
>>93961147
So what's your comic about?
>>
>>93961068
Please don't come back until you've studied anatomy and construction and put those lessons to use. Your characters are constantly uncanny valley because they're not quite drawn right, every time.
>>
>>93961177

Everyone in the world that my comic takes place in has a gem/jewel, and it represents their souls. Each person wears their gem, mostly, through earrings or rings. The girl in the picture, who I still haven't decided a name on yet, wakes up in a field on a small island. She has no recollection of who she is, except for her name and that the jewel she has isn't hers.
It's mostly just going to be about her traveling around the world trying to find her gem, and figuring out who's gem she has.

>>93961231
fuck off bones.

>>93961530
>I don't want to improve

Neat idea! Do the soul gems take on different forms depending on the personality? Like a soldier gets a wet stone that could sharpen his blade or a scholar gets a gem that works like glasses to help him read smaller text?

I've told you guys this multiple times, I make comics to pass my time, since video games stopped being enjoyable for me.

If there's something that I see that actually needs improvement (my old background for instance used to be awful) I will. but the art quality takes a backseat to just enjoying doing the drawing.

I don't have a patreon, I don't take commissions, I do this as a hobby, not a job.

people ask why I post them if I do it for fun...

what the fuck else am I going to do with them when they're done?

am i right or am i right?

So this is why people said in the past that we shouldn't give (You)s to bones. How scary.

>>93962586
Erfworld does that time to time, here is an example
http://archives.erfworld.com/Book+3/274
They do either these or normal comic strips, depending on what it's covered. Although it being saved as a .jpg means you won't quote anything without writing it yourself.
