The new Ape movies have one thing over the original Ape movies.

The sequels are consistent in quality unlike the original movie series where only the first movie's any good.
>>
okay?

It's summer blockbuster season

that doesn't mean spider-man isn't going to make a lot of money
>>
First off. I saw this last night at a special thursday showing, and I'm not lying, probably 50 or more percent of the people in the theatre were seniors. Me and my girlfriend are 23 and we had an old couple in front of us and on both sides of us and it smelled like old people.

Second off, people were checking their phones 70 minutes in. It was distracting. The old man sitting beside me fell asleep and I knew when he fell asleep because his breathing changed from quiet to slow and heavy and the old lady in front kept turning around to see who was making so much noise.

Third off, when the movie ended, only 1 group of nerdy highschoolers awkwardly clapped. I felt so embarrassed for them, myself, and everyone around me. They started off clapping so confidently, like they thought they could get everyone else to clap too. Then the old lady on the other side of me was about to start clapping but when she saw no one else was joining along with them she changed her mind. Everyone left the theatre in dead silence.

Great!

This is exactly what I wanted. I feel like I pulled out some crazy meme magic and made this happen because Holland killed my dreams of playing Spider-Man.

So I've been focusing every fucking second for years hating this guy and hoping this movie would bomb. And lo and behold. I probably shouldn't take credit because it's kind of insane, but whatever, I feel great seeing this.

I would have given you guys a much better performance, a much better film and a much better, older and more experienced Spider-Man in the MCU. From someone who knows and deeply cares about the character, not from some punk asshole kid who's looking to just get famous.
>>

>>93875812

Yeah I get seriously suicidal every time I see the new Spider-Man. It would have changed my whole worthless, miserable life around. I get told all the time I look like Peter Parker and remind people of him. And I have some acting and work experience in the industry. I tried to get a hold of the casting people and some agent or something. I just never made any leeway and kind of gave up too soon.

I should have tried harder maybe, /co/ was encouraging me to keep trying but I gave up because they had their shortlist way too quick. I didn't know short of miracle, what I could have done to get Marvel's attention.

I think it happened in another reality though. One where I wasn't meant to suffer as much.
>>
>>93876210

And I was going to call myself "Spider-Chan" and talk to /co/ about the movie as much as they'd let me. It'd be fun just dropping into spoiler threads and being like "Nah, that's totally off... you're getting colder."

It would have been a fun time for all of us.

>>
>>93876671
The idea is that apes are similar, but different enough to be divided into their own little groups. Chimps were liberals and intellectuals and commoners, Orangutans were conservative leaders, and the gorillas were military and law enforcement. Visually they can fit into these roles fairly well, even as the new movies have downplayed this you can see how it sort of fits; chimps are visually "basic" monkeys, gorillas are big and strong looking, etc. And of course, they lend themselves better to humanization than most other animals.

These new movies are pretty different int hat the apes are clearly apes, where as the apes of the first series could've just been any sort of beast people. Its pretty interesting to see a movie dominated by "animal" characters(albeit people doing motion capture, but still).
>>
>>93877048

Beneath gets a reference or homage now and then. Particularly the "worshipping a nuke" part.
>>
>>93877048
We just got three movies based off the third sequel. But honestly I'd say the whole original POTA series is sadly forgotten; most people know it from cultural references than anything else. Its got a dedicated following (which helped launch this reboot off such a niche idea, for one), but its fallen from the wayside.

Wow are people desperate to cast shade on the MCU.

Both are God Tier movies, it only makes sense that the later of the two would outdo the first on its debut during the other movie's second week.

Seriously, is there any place on the internet outside of /co/ that actually hates Homecoming because everyone else on the face of the planet seems to love it.

>>
>>93877835
>Both are God Tier movies,

Anon, I enjoyed Homecoming, but it's mostly just that, a fun Summer and decent Spidey flick, its not God-tier and nowhere near on the level of War though.
>>
>>93877889
>He was the crossbow dude.
Oh fuck him. That nigger pissed me the fuck off. I mean shit like I get that he's probably afraid of the Colonel but after everything Caesar did and he still pulled that bullshit. I'm glad the fucking gorilla blew his ass up
>>
>>93877904
I enjoyed both about the same, War for the planet of the Apes was an entirely different movie though so honestly comparing the narrative of a war drama to a super hero movie is going to have some differences.
>>
>>93877835
Homecoming isn't god tier. It's a well made movie (with deviations from classic material that make /co/ hate it).
The gap in quality between Homecoming and War is substantial. Logan is probably the only comic book movie of the last few years to even come close to War.
>>
>>93875101
MONKINO WINS AGAIN
>>
War was good, but people are desperate to laud it over Homecoming, because they want so badly to believe this director will somehow save the DCEU, assuming he doesn't jump ship after getting fed up with their bullshit.
>>
Both are equally great movies so I don't see the problem here.
>>
>>93877965
They're two completely different movies.

One is a war drama that is steeped in human drama, conflict and pathos where as the other is an uplifting coming of age Super hero movie. Obviously the later isn't going to have as much opportunity for over the top drama and pageantry. Could it have? Yeah sure, but then it wouldn't be a fucking Spider-Man movie and no matter what Homecoming did people would still landblast it for not being THEIR version of spider-man.
>>
Good to see Marvel starting to fall.

Damn, that is some nice insecurity you got there. David Ayer should've already proved that a director making good movies =/= director making good DCEU movies.
>>93878091
But that's just what I mean. Nobody says Captain America 2 is on the level of Logan despite the former being a very well made movie. It just had no chance of matching Logan's emotional heft or themes.
Same with Homecoming. Good movie, but it had no hope in hell of matching War's ride.

>>
>>93878203
Exactly and both of which have 90-some-odd% ratings on RT so neither were slouches. Had apes not toppled Homecoming for it's debut weekend /co/ would be pitching a fit.

>>93878219
Agreed, I think this is more of the "Serious movies = Better movie" bias that we're seeing. Which doesn't necessarily mean it can't be true in a lot of cases or doesn't apply here, but I just get the impression everyone wants every cape movie to be rated R with Frank Millar tier grit and drama.
>>
>>93877945
Easily the most satisfying movie death I've seen in a long time.
>>
>>93878212
how so? it didn't drag at all imo. but this is also coming from someone who sat through an almost 3 hour train wreck written by 12 special ed children aka Transformers: The Last Knight, which despite taking place in numerous settings across multiple continents somehow dragged like hell and felt never ending, while War only had two or three major settings and seemingly went by in a flash (at least to me).
>>
>>93878199
Oh by "ride" I didn't mean in terms of money. I meant in terms of the story. War's final act is one of the best things I've watched since TDK.
Homecoming should do decently at the box office regardless of War's success.
>>93878219
That's not necessarily true, it's just movies which have singular visions and unique styles that are lauded. Iron Man 1, for example, had a unique vision at the time it came out and it was (and still is, at least by me) considered one of the best superhero movies ever.
Since the Marvel formula is the norm, it's hard hitting drama that breaks the mold and delivers experiences that the average movie can't. War and Logan are the epitome of that- extremely well made pieces of pessimism that provide emotional rides the "standard" movie just can't.
>>
>>93875261
We talking Apes or Spider-Man?
>>
>>93875101
It's a well liked on going series that's a BIG box office draw.

Seems fair that it would open at #1. Why does it have to be shat on by Spider-Man? why you trying to make me care?
>>
>>93878306

>>93878312
yes
>>
>>93875261
I had a similair experience today though it was a morning show. I'm used to people just talking right after the movie ends but it was just so...quiet.
>>
>>93878266
I mean, /co/ also values serious cartoons above comedy, going so far as to dismiss pretty much all adult comedy cartoons as teenager/manchildren shit. Which goddamn isn't that ironic, you'd think of all people /co/ wouldn't be the ones scoffing at things for being immature.... and on the other hand they pretty much ignore serious animation actually aimed at adults for being pretentious because it doesn't have people punching each other and splosions.
/co/ are fucking plebs of the highest order under the delusion of being well discerning consumers.
>>
>>93878363
its weird, the last really good experience I had in a theater was The Dark Knight opening day. theater was packed as hell and everyone was talking and clapping after the end.

this rarely happens anymore, and I see several films yearly. seems like people just don't really care as much anymore, but I guess i'm being a bit anecdotal here.
>>
>>93878334
Marvel tone and style, not Marvel formula. Homecoming is a fun, lighthearted superhero movie. People who like Marvel movies will appreciate deviations like Vulture and the street level scale, but the overall place for it in the movie market is the same as any other MCU movie.
>>
>>93875261
I could swear I read this back when BvS was in theaters.
>>
>>93878423
Godzilla made my theater cheer three times. That movie had some serious blueballing going on but when it actually let loose it was amazing
>>
>>93878378
I think most of /co/ are just embarrassed about liking comics and want R-Rated serious dramas so other people will take them seriously. More worried about what their parents think about cape flicks than actually enjoying them.

>>93878437
Doesn't the DCEU fall into the same category given Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman?
>>
>>93878439
It would be far more fitting for BvS.
>>
>>93878306
>Iron Man 1, for example, had a unique vision at the time it came out
It barely had even a fucking script, it's a lot of RDJ ad libbing and cool visuals played on a by-the-numbers plot.
GOTG had much more of a unique vision. Hell even Ant-Man did more unique things in terms of how it tells its story. But those movies are more outwardly comedic and there's no Obi Wan-style Yinsen dying scene so nope, they're just lolmemes.
I like IM because it's straight-up well-made, but it's by no means unique, even in the context ofits time.
>Since the Marvel formula is the norm, it's hard hitting drama that breaks the mold and delivers experiences that the average movie can't.

granted, my bar for what makes a good movie/cartoon adaptation of marvel comics is pretty low. its the only way to enjoy any of them, lbr

I believe there's certainly some amount of truth in that. Wanting their hobby to be accepted as something a normal adult would enjoy despite inherently liking childish things. >>93878977
Nah. I don't support reboots/relaunches/remakes or prequels (in general IP milking) so it evens out.
>inb4 but Marvel
I haven't paid for a single MCU movie. Only cape movie I've paid for in the last decade+ was Deadpool.
>>
You know it's a /tv/ thread when literally the only thing that matters is how much money the movie made

Guess what, Suicide Squad made a shit ton of money and no one here thinks that is better than Winter Soldier
>>
>>93878989
I'm not too picky but yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing much of each other in the future. She has such a nice ass though, I'd like to get smothered by it again.
Next date I've got planned is with a huge One Piece fan so at least the childish hobbies part won't be an issue. But the ass game just isn't as good.
>>
>>93879057
I agree Hollywood has been going overboard with sequels and reboots the past 10 years, but this Ape trilogy was pretty great, especially War which had a near perfect conclusion. You should at least give it a watch when it leaks online or something.
>>
>>93879150
I probably will binge watch them all at some point down the line if they're still on my mind. They look good.
Took me like 6 years before watching a single MCU movie despite an already present cape love, I'm a slow guy like that, I wait for the dust to actually settle.
>>
So how fucking stupid is this movie on the "Nature Good. Humans and Technology Bad." scale? Are we talking like Jurassic Park levels of stupid, or full on Avatar retardation?
>>
>>93879344
I don't think that was the message of Jurassic Park, dude.
>>
>>93879411
It was "don't fuck with nature, because nature is larger than humanity and will win every time if you try and control it", which is a less stupid message than most, hence being at the bottom of the scale.
>>
>>93879344
its barely even relevant to the overall theme of the movie. its more about subjective morality and doing the right thing vs. doing what your feelings tell you.
>>
>>93879344
>"Nature Good. Humans and Technology Bad."
That's literally not the point of any of the Apes movies or Jurassic Park, so Jurassic Park, I guess?
>>
>>93879513
I... did we watch the same Jurassic Park? Because it's like we watched two entirely separate movies or I'm having a seizure and somehow my dying and crippled brain has overlapped a different film about a failed Dinosaur Park under the title Jurassic Park.
>>
>>93879455
Jurassic Park's message was that complete control of a dynamic system like evolution is impossible, and humans shouldn't feel secure in playing god. It didn't make any normative statements on whether or not nature or people were good/bad.
>>93879572
That anon is talking about War, not JP.
>>
>>93879572
I was referring to War for the planet of the apes. I thought thats what anon was asking about
>>
>Mistah Stahk, mistah stahk, these apes have destroyed my bloody arse!

Anyone could have seen this happening like I did. Homecoming did nothing memorable or impactful.

Apes. Together. Strong.

Haven't seen War yet, is Woody Harrelson as OTT as the trailers make him seem? Considering all the direct Apocalypse Now and Platoon references they've got in the trailers regarding him, I'm hoping for some full-tilt crazy.
>>
>>93880105
Woody is amazing in it.
>>
>>93875101
planet of the apes actually is diversity done right.
vastly different people with vastly different experiences and not just pointless diversity of skin color.
the majority of the cast aren´t even the same species as you and you still don´t even care.

it also does social justice aspects right like the fight for freedom and the conflict of tribes. unlike spiderman which just randomly drops sjw crap like "muh slavery" or "muh Indians"
and most importantly they created their own characters to tell their story instead of taking characters from the old movies and changing them again unlike spiderman which vastly changed age, skin color and personality of most of their characters

> ethnic re-casting and a character being a stereotypical counter-culture teen is SJW bullshit crammed down your throat

Fuck off you jaded little cunt. Cry me a river when they introduce gender fluid and trans representation, because until then nothing in Homecoming is fucking serious SJW shit. The whole point of Zendaya's character was that she was the typical disillusioned teen going through an empowerment phase regurgitating contrarian factoids like any weekend warrior feminist would. Fuck you and your stupid meme riddled brain. Try having an opinion of your own once in your fucking life.

Still bet you had no fucking problem with Will Smith playing fucking Deadshot, but oh no, it's only SJW pandering when the MCU does it.
>>
>>93882180
More and more I'm getting the impression that people on /co/ form their opinions based around what they think is cool or should be cool. Like a bunch of kids trying to pretend that the more adult something is the better it is.

You know, like how people on /co/ were constantly trying to hype the Zack Snyder DCEU movies as being good because they aped superficial grimdark themes and "serious" storytelling, but the MCU is nothing but quips and light-hearted little kid stuff for casuals.

People really show their age around and trust me kids in this thread, once you become a grown-up you'll see that consumption of media is more about indulging in the thing you enjoy rather than worrying about what is cooler or what does what better.

Seriously though I miss the days when the average age on 4chan was 20-30, it's like there's an endless turn-over now where by the time anyone hits 20 they get bored of this board and move on with their lives so we're stuck with nothing but an endless revolving door of tweens and teens.
>>
Does anyone remember when movies were described as good or bad based on the movie itself rather than how much money it made?

When he did the point blank laser blast and burned through the GENO's neck I wanted to stamp my feet and beat my chest. Never had quite such a primal, visceral reaction to a film like that before or since.

Logan is extremely overrated as it was the samev reluctant-hero Wolverine story we've been getting for almost 20 years full of the typical FoX-men weak lore (can't think of a better word) and villains so lackluster they were literally the incarnation of what Deadpool parodied. And I'm saying this as someone who really liked it. If it wasn't for the r-rating and the character's departure it would be regarded similarly to The Wolverine, because they were basically the same movie, and i don't mean this as an insult because i didn't mind that one

Going to see apekino in a few days. I won't watch Iron Lad. Don't even care about pirating it.
>>
Unsurprising honestly.

Think about how many bad spiderman movies there's been. Alot of people probably just shrugged it off as another one the moment they heard about it.

Meanwhile PotA is a movie that generates nostalgia.
>>
>>93875101
Theyre both good, but Apes was better.
>>
>>93882838
>Meanwhile PotA is a movie that generates nostalgia.

Only if you're 40+ years-old, Planet of the Apes isn't a big franchise with young people as it was back then.

Like the people who obsess over Star Wars these days wouldn't sit down and watch Planet of the Apes without falling asleep or calling it cheesy schlock.
>>
>>93875101
Based, War was great but not as good as Dawn. It deserves a massive box office gross compared to the shit other studios are shoveling out these past weeks.

Can't wait to see Reeves' Batman.
>>
>>93876783
Planet of the Apes didn't have any big name stars attached aside from Woody Harrelson but he isn't a box office draw. Besides, I doubt any big star would want to play an ape in these movies since you wouldn't recognize them under the motion capture.

>>93883014

I notice there's a lack of Deadpool laughing and Leto upset there.

>It didn't make any normative statements on whether or not nature or people were good/bad.
I think that was the point. It let you make your own conclusions while Avatar said to betray humans for the sake of nature. That's why he used them both for his scale.
>>
>>93875101
/co/ hates Marvel you dummy.

They were both really enjoyable movies and I'd maybe even say that Apes was better, but if I had to pick one to re-watch it'd probably be Homecoming. It's a longer, heavier movie and thus isn't something I'd grab outta redbox for shit and giggles. And I think that's where it's going to inch ahead; on repeat and home sales.

war of the planet of the apes is so fucking emotional everyone in my theater was crying.

I'd rather see Planet of the Apes.
Dawn was the best jailbreak movie since The Shawshank Redemption, Rise was a great Shakespearean post-apocalyptic film so my hopes are sky high for War

The amount of promotion it's getting on TV has me legitimately worried.
