I just read her with a very slight accent. Maybe a bit more twang whenever starts using slang and colloquialisms. Keep in mind, she's probably been living at camp with all these other kids for just as long as she spent with her "family" so she's probably unlearned most of her southern accent

Malachi thinks of himself as an intellectual because he has no other real discernible skills or talent so he makes shit up and pretends he's smarter than those around him. Linus on the other hand is a bookworm, so Malachi thinks they relate to one another when they really don't. Also Malachi is a bossy person and naturally drawn to quiet shy people he can push around.

That, and Malachi never had a father growing up and is desperately starved for attention from older male figures. Linus is a teenager, which just automatically makes him cool to a kid like Malachi, but he'll also give Malachi the time of day, which seems like a huge honor to Malachi but is really just because Linus doesn't think of himself as above anybody, because among the other teenagers Linus is at the very bottom of the social structure.

it's not terribly hard to roughly guesstimate where things are in relation to eachother, especially when you have multiple points of reference for each place. But yeah, it is impressive how close he got the bends of the river. Katie really needs to release the full map at some point, or at least sell it as a poster in her merch shop. I know I'd buy it
