A lot of TFA's wobbly establishment depends on the next two movies to expand on them properly. If Kylo is an anti-villain protagonist to round up the new trio (him, Finn and Rey - not the guy who didn't die only because of Oscar Isaac being charming as fuck on the set) and Rey is an ambivalent "Dark Phoenix"-like freak of nature as I read the movie for now, then TFA will make sense in retrospect.

If they try to pull an Empire now and plaster the same dynamic Vader and Luke had on them, when the first movie set them up to be anything but, then TFA will be even more of an empty, contradictory, ill-conceived waste of time.

A lot of sep vessels are made from old and refitted designs, or were designed to be shat out in vast quantities.

Don't get me wrong, in size and number they dominate the rebel fleet with no ambiguity, the difference is that in the clone wars they were shitting out constant new designs without much consideration whereas the empire had 20 years to get it's shit sorted.

Lucasfilm wasn't always intended to be sidelined though.

Initially it was going to be entirely Lucasfilm, with Lucas having lots of involvement. Then Lucas left after creative differences, and asked Speilberg to find a suitable director. Then Speilberg chose JJ, and JJ declined.

Then JJ finally accepts the job, conveniently along with Bad Robot getting production privileges on the movie.

So to me, it seems less that Disney were scared of Lucasfilm fucking up, and more that they just wanted JJ to accept the fucking job, because he was a safe bet. So they compromised with Kathleen that his company could get first dibs on the movie.

MSW was "spot on" with TFA too. And by that I mean, while they did accurately leak basically the entire movie, they also "leaked" a lot of stuff that didn't happen.

Now some of these cases were actually very valid leaks. One of the most notable ones was the idea of Luke's hand shown floating in space. This was an actual thing in the script, Hamill himself even spoke about. But it was cut from the movie.

So sadly, even if these action scene leaks are true, it's entirely possible that the scene was altered, trimmed down, or cut entirely. We simply wont know for sure until December.

You're missing the point of that post though. He's saying that death shouldn't be relegated to a "shock" tactic, it should always have weight in the story.

He didn't kill Kallus because he felt it didn't fit the story at all, and it actually felt like Kallus was being "punished" and worse off for his good actions.

This does not mean Filoni wont kill off good characters when it fits the story. He has done it before in fact, countless times. When it's for the greater good, like Hardcase. Or to make you feel, and further develop a character like Satine's death in Obi-Wan's arms.

So let's take Ezra for example. Are you telling me that a huge heroic sacrifice that causes Ezra to be a martyr that hugely boosts support for the Rebellion, wouldn't be an appropriate story to tell in Dave's mind? Hell, it's not far off from Starkiller in the EU.

I always took that to mean that he didn't want it to feel like Kallus was being punished for turning good, which is pretty much what it would've looked like if he died during the finale. We now see he's rewarded for it- not only did he escape with his life, but he's been accepted into the rebellion.

So now that that's done, I think he's no longer safe. I don't think Filoni will kill him off, but the exact safety mechanism that kept Kallus safe is gone.
