Robot Chicken came about because Seth Green read Twisted Toyfare Theater in the 90's, and teamed up with guys who worked at Toyfare to do it. They were already doing it for Sony back in 2001. And even though they were rejected by Cartoon Network at first someone there passed it along to Adult Swim.

I don't think eliminating Family Guy would prevent Robot Chicken from being made.

Part of it was that Disney spent the money they got from the success of Snow White on the brand new studio rather than paying the employees. Who preferred the older studio even if it was a potential health risk.

What Disney needed to do was bring it forward to them as an option. Do you A) want a brand new studio with state of the art AC, lighting, resources, etc. or B) Money in your pocket and we work in our dismal studio doing what we love.

Unfortunately he didn't give them a chance to decide or voice an opinion on the matter. This along with more little things over time led to half of the studio leaving.

This, without Family Guy we lose out on Bojack, Rick and Morty, F is for Family, American Dad...I don't think it goes as far as us losing out on a large portion of the Adult Swim catalog, but it could because, although South Park contributed just as much to the idea that adult animation could be profitable, without Family Guy Adult Swim loses out on a ton of ad revenue from the popularity of Family Guy and maybe doesn't have the funding to get shows like Moral Orel, Metalocalypse, Tyson, and others off the ground.
