Is the operative part of it. It's fine to have a character be an ass, as long as they get their Just Desserts for it. It's Why Characters Like Arnold Rimmer work while characters like Mabel Pines don't. Gir is always exempt from the actual suffering despite causing most of the problems.

I also wish we's get a little more character out of the characters. It's funny how static they all are, but it would be nice if, I dunno, we say Gaz be nice a little more often or GIR show some depth. I don't mean in some kind of "appease the network" kind of forced positivity, and I'm not saying he should sacrifice the tone or make there be a regularly occuring "awww" moment, like a basic cable sitcom.

Still, his obsession with making everything dark just gets kind of old after a while. If you use too much edge then it eventually gets dull, and there's so much unused dynamic between the characters beyond how insufferable everyone finds each other.

I dunno, I guess I just mean that he's allowed to have some semblance of positivity to the show without selling out to the man. Sometimes it feels a little self conscious, like he's worried that he has to keep up his appearance or else people will accuse him of being soft.

IDK about you guys, but Zim has had a big affect on our culture. Maybe you don't see it alot, but growing up everyone talked about this show. I personally knew a strange girl who loved this show so much, she drew fan art on deviant art and was pretty awesome at it too. She also knew the irken alphabet which I thought was just amazing. About a year ago, I read about an anon here who wrote whole notebooks in irken but got rid of them.

I'd love a board dedicated to irken posting and philosophy from the show. It be pretty cute.
