Honestly realistically his main issue stemmed from the fact that his mother babied him so much. Kevin is the kind of kid who got by socially because his parents doted on him like a prince, so when he was taken out of his element everything he ever knew about how to act was stripped away, and suddenly his behavior comes off not as "justified" but as the smarmy little dweeb he actually was.

Honestly it was probably best that he ended up living with Andy when he did, had his parents taken him to Colorado with him Kevin would have learned the harsh realities of the real world too late and would have ended up a basement dwelling NEET.
