this series brings back such feels. I'm old so I had played Castlevania 1 & 2 but Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse was the first one I actually owned and I loved it. It's still the definitive Castlevania game IMO. This is actually an old project from ten years ago that they revived. Originally it was planned as a trilogy of DVD films, this is the first film. Season 2 has been announced and will take a year to make, and will be 8 episodes long so presumably it'll be what was going to be the next two films.

Until eventually, Castlevania as a brand no longer makes sense for pachinko. But by that point, the brand will already be dead or at the very least seriously damaged for other venues too.

Ellis has written joking references to goat fucking as far back as Transmetropolitan. It's not really out of character for him. For Ellis that sort of crude humour is an occasional spice, whereas for Ennis it's his default flavour.

Ellis actually wrote a comic, called Blackgas, that was essentially Crossed a couple years before Ennis had the same idea. Ellis can have an almost identical sensibility to Ennis, it's just contained in a small minority of his work instead of being a constant.

The Belmont's didn't disappear, they were unable to use the whip due to a prophecy so they placed into the care of the Morris clan, whom are related through bloodties due to marriage of Belmont daughters because only direct descent Belmont men can wield the whip's full power.

The Morris's, Lecarde's, Renards, and Schneider's are related to the Belmont's through blood but the relation is distant which is why they can't use the full power of Vampire Killer without a ritual and sacrifice of life force of the user

Yes, that was nice. Trev essentially starts out with the same totally disillusioned and jaded mindset as Vlad and then has a redemption arc over the course of the film.
I thought his character was well handled. He's a previously heroic character who has had his heroism beaten out of him by circumstances. But there's just enough of the old Trevor left so when he sees an innocent in danger right in front of him, he can't help but get involved. So he ends up helping the speakers, getting more involved and the eventually the speakers give that speech about doing what's right even if it's thankless, even if it' gets you killed, and that really fully brings him back to himself, and he gives that little speech to the priests when they attack about being a Belmont that echoes the what the speakers said, confirming what the speaker said about running away becouse of a lie "it is not a speaker thing. I don't think it's a Belmont thing either."
And then Trevor's redemption get confirmed by the fight with Alucard, which is Alucard testing his character as well as his abilities, what with all the talk of "do you care?" and Trevor ultimately confirming that he is willing to die to save others with that great line about "killing you was the point, living through it was just a luxury"

You could also spin it in a way that makes it pretty interesting. See here we have two friends Leon and Mathias that turn into enemies because Mathias wants to spite god and become an immortal monster and because of that Leon's beloved had to die. Fast forward a few hundred years and the descendants of those two start a forbidden love affair and produce a child and that bloodline fights on to defeat their cursed ancestor.
It also makes it a bit heartwarming since everytime Alucard teams up with a Belmont it means he teams up with family.
