the best stuff is non-cape imo

also hellboy is quality through and through (for me starts good and gets really great by conqueror worm)

aliens comics are more sporadic since so many different writers and artist work on it but overall they're quality. there are some damn good stories in there, just wait till you get to labyrinth.

Haven't read that one, either.

I feel like I might like Lobo more when he's not by himself. Like in 52 or in that recent JLvSuicideSquad event. I remember Highway To Hell being okay and VsMask was great but that might be cause I love Mask so much, and NuBo was just meh.
I don't think I've read ANYTHING of just Lobo that's really given me a boner, ya know.

I'd go along with this anon, if it weren't for things like Ditko ASM and Jack Kirby's huge body of work in capes.
Generalizations are kinda pointless.
Also Hellboy/BPRD is clearly cape comics. Right down to supervillains and a universe shared by a group of writers.

I love bargain binning too. You end up with some shit that you just want to throw away but I've found FAR more gold in there than should be expected. It's cause there are so many great stories that are overlooked cause they aren't by Marvel or DC. Happy reading

I'm pretty new to buying and collecting comics so discount bins really helped me get my collection started.
>>
>>93844148
I hate that there is no comic bookstores or comics in stores in my country. I have to buy collected editions online, or scout flea markets for some old copies of translated comics. I just want new comic-books and stuff. Even figures and other collectibles are really hard to find.

Winona, Minnesota; small city of ~30,000 people. We have a comic book store called Jimmy Jams that's pretty much your standard LCS plus a used bookstore called Chapter 2 Books that sells comics. The bookstore surprisingly has a shit ton of good comics in there. I've picked up stuff like Denny O'Neil's entire run on the Question (minus the annuals) and Peter Milligan's Enigma and seen stuff like the Mark Gruenwald Squadron Supreme mini and issues of Jack Kirby's New Gods and Kyle Baker's Plastic Man there.

Houston TX.

A nice big city, and work has got me used to driving a hour in traffic so I'm never shy to go the distance for a good comic deal.
Hit up Bedrock City Comics and the dealings with other comicbook stores in the city have been good.
If the place wasn't a near boil hot former-swampland full of insane drivers it could be paradise.

I've got this pre-ordered at Amazon just in case, but as a non-manga reader how hard is it to accustom yourself to reading right-to-left, which is the format of this release? I read some of the recoloured Epic issues in the 90s so thought I would dive into manga with this new reprint.

top row 4th book on the left (DC Deluxe Editions are usually a bit taller than trades) and the book itself without the dust cover has that nice velvety covering and the ebossed, stamped in font. DC put out a few books like that (like LoSH The Curse and Great Darkness Saga for example) and they are of superb quality.

It is pretty amazing. China Mieville is actually a novel writer, his books are fucking amazing, too.
Stuff like his Bas-Lag series (Perdito Street Station, The Scar, Iron Council), Embassy Town or The City & The City are really enjoyable.
It's not your usual fantasy stuff, but rather weird fantasy with elements of urban fantasy but without the horrible tropes that make the urban fantasy genre such a heap of shit.

I got 2 rows of WH-40K books I haven't touched in years, probably boxing them in the next few days, with a bit of moving around that'll add enough space for comics for the next 2 years.

I see you too are/were into the fantasy novels. Terry Brooks is what really kicked me off on reading big fantasy stories. The Hobbit started it and I had read some other stuff like Narnia and other kids stuff but in grade 4 when I found The Sword of Shannara I was off.

How is Sudra so large? Is there a bunch of extra stuff in it? cause Skydoll is pretty damn short for having that much shelf space.
>>
>>93866187
dimension wise is the exact same size as the other Skydoll books, there's maybe a dozen sketchbook pages added in at the back but not enough to make it noticeably thicker. Did they shrink down the english books?
>>
>>93866101
I hate Terry Brooks, never got the appeal. If you like to read some stuff that isn't regularly praised (turns out to be unenjoyable shit most of the time like A Song of Ice and Fire or what's getting Hugos nowadays like the drivel NK Jemisin turns out), then check out the D&D appendix from the original D&D first edition Dungeon Masters Guide:
http://www.martinralya.com/reading-appendix-n/the-100-book-appendix-n-reading-list/

http://www.martinralya.com/reading-appendix-n/reading-appendix-n-the-project-the-appendix-and-the-goal/#appendix-n

You usually won't be disappointed. That one fag from /sffg/ over on /lit/ would be triggered now because I recommended "dinosaur books" to you, but the old stuff is usually the best stuff.
Conan, Fafhrd & Gray Mouser, The Face in the Frost, or since we all read comics here, check out Gardner Fox' Kothar or Kyrik series.

The silver age Omnis are in color. they usually collect the already existing Archive Editions, in this case vol 1-3. There were 13 volumes of the LoSH Archive Editions so it's going to be at least 3 more Omnis and DC already released the run that followed up after them in Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Anything with pages near falling out?

Long story.
Basically my old car's AC had this issue where the floor of the car would become soaking wet. Didn't know the book was down there so by the time I realized it, the book was 100% soaked through.
So I took it out of the car, and left it next to a box fan for days to air dry it out(I don't own a hair dryer). Now it's all crinkly and kinda mold looking ... Which oddly is fitting looking for a Solomon Grundy book.

Sorry to /lit/ here but i have to vent about the shitty Wheel Of Time bindings. It doesn't last a second reading, sometimes not even a first! My first copy is even worse with hundreds of pages falling out in full. Now compare that to the old as fuck Clan of the Cave Bear that was read at least 3 dozen times cause everyone in my family has read it multiple times and lent it out.

Never mind that the stiry goes to garbage but Wheel of Time is only worth fire starter.

my Green Lantern Omnibus by Geoff Johns Vol 2 is falling apart. Even tried repairing it with glue, but it keeps on ripping. Not good for a second reading I think.
The textblock of my LoSH An Eye for An Eye TPB fell out of the spine just like that while I was reading it while commuting. Glued it together again and it was fine since then.
Some of my old Asterix books look like utter shit because my brother and I had them as kids already and did a lot of shenannigans with them

Thing is, if I BUY a book, I expect to be able to read a few times. This is the second copy I owned (forgive my youthfullness) and it faired far better than the other one. This series almost made me want to quite buying novels...then I figured out, it's only this shitty series that is so cheaply printed that no one should by it.

and I enjoyed the first 5 books.

I was about to comment that, of all the tpb's to get soaked and fucked up looking at least its a Grundy book

Swamp Thing would be another one that would at LEAST make it not quite as awful, as long as you could read it.

Lol, my step mom was so into that clan of the cave bear shit, she had the whole series...

I stopped WoT after the first 3 books, just got way too overblown and sorry, to the late Robert Jordan, I dont want to read multiple long chapters about Perrin farming for no god damn reason.
>>
>>93892930

My paperback of Eye of the World fell apart out of the binding as well... but desu it was really thick and generally books like that don't last well anyways. the difference in text size and page weight in the WoT books is way diff than that Clan of the cave bear shit.

It's got the bonus chapter and a pretty decent HC, but I worry the spine will bend too much in the future. That was shown very clearly on Tomie, a larger series compiled into one book.

If they had a bunch of specific themes, or it was like having a pull box that was sent every month with stuff of your choosing? that would be kickass.

The /sffg/ general charts in the OP are serious. the selected charts are really subjective.
Any charts posted in the thread itself are either very subjective or a troll list. you may want to check them first. also take a look at the frequent "gay, incest and rape" list and if that's not your cup of tea at all then avoid any of these books.
And as I said up earlier in the thread, take a look at the Appendix list:

Fuck off Rooney, it's obvious you don't know how to read comics. Reading digital takes away some of the impact a comic has (depending on the author of course) cause you have to scroll to see the whole page. Writers and artists compose the story so you see the page as well as the panels layed out. Then there is such a thing as the "page turn' which works like a long pause and good writers use that to their advantage. Not all writers and artists are good at this but some are fantastic at it. I do read some stuff digitally, but that's usually stuff I'm either sampling or wouldn't buy.
>>
>>93922276
Not the guy who you're replying to but idk. I remember back when I had a PSP it had a comic reading app that was pretty cool CAUSE it didn't focus on the whole page, but rather panned from panel to panel, guaranteeing you didn't ruin a surprise for yourself by accidently seeing the last panel of a page and instantly know where a story is going without the context.

>Wait, OSC did some Iron Man? How is it?
Literally just finished it tonight. Thanks for asking.

Ok, first of all, it's not canon. I'm not sure about the behind-the-scenes story, but for some reason this shit got sidelined to being a movie set in the Ultimate U.

Secondly, Tony has powers. Like actual powers. I won't spoil it because it's actually pretty interesting, but it surprisingly didn't bother me. He still felt like Tony.

And finally, the first volume was REALLY good. Good enough for me to go back the next day and get the second one. It was more about Howard Stark and Tony's child years. The art by Andy Kubert was amazing. I've never really been an Iron Man fan (unless RDJ is playing him), but this legit grabbed my attention. I'd say it's a really solid 8/10, elseworlds style story.
The second one, on the other hand, was pretty damn disappointing. I mean, it was fine, but nothing really happened. And everything that didn't happen, I kind of already assumed was going to happen anyway. The big bad reveal at the end was supposed to be a big twist, but I saw it coming from a mile away. On top of that, the art by Pasqual Ferry was garbage. I can't stand that guy. There's no style to his art at all. Just bland backgrounds and people standing and talking and every once in a while someone poses for a cool hero shot.

tl:dr the first one was very good, the second one wasn't.

I'd say eye first Usagi Yojimbo or I Kill Giants since they're decent deals AND almost essential reading they're so good/popular.
Flintstones is a pretty good price but I keep feeling like they'll release a whole-run omnibus soon so maybe wait just a bit longer. Otherwise get on that 9.34 deal.
Never read Luthor Strode but heard good things and for 8.24 that's a good deal. Same goes for Wytches super low 5.49
iZombie is great at less than 9, plus even if ya don't ever read the whole run vol1 has possibly my favorite monster origins explanation.
Tomboy is great so definitely glance at that 11.24, and same goes for Monstress at 9.34

Bought Watchmen last month, gotten The New Teen Titans Vol. 1 a few weeks ago when a coworker gave me a gift card for my birthday and just got Ultimate Spider-Man Book 1 in the mail today.

If anyone has any Spider-Man book recommendations would love to hear some since I'm trying to get back into the character after seeing Homecoming.

well good for them, but I don't have any comic shop here that'd be able to order it in any price category even coming close to amazon's prices or, you know, actually arriving here this week, so amazon is my timeframe

The Ditko run is extremely solid, especially for its age
>>
>>93946729
Ultimate gets good further down the road. Back when he was on this, Alias and Daredevil, Bendis was a hell of a writer.

The Lee/Ditko run is collected in its entirety in one omnibus, great run as well.
From there, you can jump to the Stern omni, some great stories there as well.
After that, get the Kraven's Last Hunt epic collection, which collects the marriage storyline and the best Spidey story ever.
From there you can probably skip all of the awful nineties and jump right into the first half of JMS run, which reads easily and has some great material, including the Civil War tie-in which was the best part of the whole event.
Afterwards, go for Spider-Island, which is the very last Spidey Classic in my opinion.
From there, get Spider-Verse for some fun takes on the character and whatnot.

any other uk anons awake? how are wordery for getting books to you undamaged? their ebay feedback is pretty high but i don't trust it because it's usually idiots that give feedback the instant they buy something

This wasn't cheap, but I've been dying to read the earlier books after liking the recent revival in 2000AD with Rufus Dayglo.

German anon here, ordered a few things from them over amazon marketplace some time ago (my order history says 2016) and as far as I can tell everything arrived undamaged.
Can't remember the actual packaging though, but one of the things I ordered was an omni I guess it was okay or I got lucky, I just can't remember.

Got Sinestro Corps War last time and it came very nicely packaged, so this time I nabbed DC One Million.

Fuck it feels nice to get a package in the mail with enough protection that your book not only survived but is immaculate. I'm well past pissed at Amazon for their increasingly shitty shipping practices.
>>
>>93953390
I mean, there's literal guro shit there too, but sure. I guess that's the thing that sticks out the most.
>>
>>93954517
Solid choices. Wish they'd ship outside America

Invest in Yojimbo. You will not regret it at all. With the sagas and the Fantagraphics set you can get it all in a tight collection.

Cool, I've never gone in there because I have little to no interest in manga. Would you recommend any of the shops there? I have some family going to school there, and might visit them in a few weeks.

I went to most of them a couple months ago on a vain search for magazine boxes. There were a couple downtown that seemed well-stocked: Heroes and Worlds Away. Not well stocked-with magazine boxes, however!

Why would you skip the rest of Stan Lee Spider-Man, though? Yes, Lee/Ditko is amazing. No pun intended. But, Lee/Romita is absolutely tits. If the guy you're replying to really wants to get a good grasp on Spider-Man's best stories, I'd say go for all 3 ASM omnis, then the Goblin's Last Stand Epic Collection, THEN Roger Stern omni, and so on.
Unfortunately, Tom DeFalco's Spider-Man stuff is largely uncollected, and David Michelenie's run is out of print in some places, uncollected in others, and just a bit harder to track down. But those two runs are worth it, as well.

And this is my fav collection too, cause you have all of Kabuki.

I have a question though. I know in the library edition the picture is skewed a bit, at least in Circle of Blood. But that one is originally drawn on a different page layout than the rest is. Is the rest skewed too? If so, by much or would you still recommend it?

Honestly, I don't care if Circle of Blood is skewed, I own that volume anyway in the normal formatting.

Grodd shoot luthor with laser or something and luthor meets Death the Endless. lex didn't actually die tho
>>
>>93962796
Blackest Night Aftermath story of Lex Luthor trying to gain Lantern power again by trying to find out where the BL energy went.
Story uses a bunch of big name characters who surprisingly didn't get used in the fucking gigantic event; such as Grodd, Joker, Brainiac, Death, etc.
Damn great read, highly recommend.

Paul Cornell had some really, really good stuff. That last Wolverine run he had sucked though.

Cornell's Demon Knights was great, as well as Captain Britain and MI 13, but as you said he also had some bad stuff, Saucer Country comes to mind, which was really boring and then he had to wrap it up rather abrubtly.

Is that new Black Panther book by Ta-Nehisi worth it? Trying to get books out of this sale and the others as I can. At the moment I have Usagi Yojimbo Saga Vol. 1, FF by Hickman and Vision Vol.1.

I agree about Romita/Lee ASM, it's awesome, and the omnis are fucking georgeos. Nobody draws a better Kingpin or mad thug face than JR sr. The third omni has 10 issues of John Buscema art that are just fucking fantastic. Big John's Gwen is breathtaking.
Stern Omni is great too. I especially like the Roxxon, Will o the wisp/Tarantula story line
The Larsen/ Micheline Omni is.... Also top fucking tier.
Spider-Man, man.
