The designs don't really lght my fire, looking at them stationary, but they could be for a good reason - if they animate them to move about in an impressive or especially menacing way.

Genuinely never noticed that before. Thanks.
Have to squint though. They seem to be moving at the same pace as the old AT-ATs. The gorilla design makes me hope that they're gonna move like them - slow regular tread but sudden bursts of speed at close ranges. Would make for a good 'oh shit' moment cinematically.
I agree though that this other, sorta...spidery looking thing is more interesting. Can't wait to see what the hell this thing does.

And then there's gorilla boy. I do like the extra guns and leg saws - keeps with the theme of FO designs trying to correct the Empire's mistakes. Other than that it's the same tier as the FO TIE for me - not really bad, just unoriginal compared to the other two.

Why don't you make me if you're so tough? Face it, your waifu is dead. Despite what your delusions may tell you, Ezra never liked her. The were enemies. Your ship could never happen, and now will definitely never happen.

The only girl Ezra ever showed interest in is Sabine. While she initially turned him down, they have developed a close friendly relationship over the years, with an ever increasing focus on the two of them in Season 3 and promotional material of Season 4 so far. It may turn into something wlse, it may not. But it's the only ship in the show after Kanera that actually has anything going for it. You may not like Sabine, but you can't meme your way out of canon.

It's over, SSfag. I have the high ground.
>>
>>93825864
Question is: will his ninja turtles bodyguards just stand around like the royal guards, or do some actual fighting?
Because if it's the latter that means, in all likleyhood, one of the following: someone manages to fight their way to snoke's throne room, kylo goes berzerk at snoke/snoke goes berzerk at kylo, or the elite goon squad gets sent out to take down someone appropriately threatening (Luke?)
Or a training/sparring scene

Jeez, Vader. Bit obvious.

But seriously, they've got to do it. I'd personally like to see a new republic first-in mission after endor, and all the crazy shit they'd find there. But I guess they'd have bigger stuff on their plate for a while, so it probably all ends up on the black market before they can get there, with Kylo eventually getting into bidding wars for it all on e-bay.

Absolutely he had that part planned. >A recent documentary focusing on Prowse delves into this mystery, but somehow Prowse doesn't remember blowing the twist. The director literally has to pull up the old newspaper clipping on an iPad and show Prowse that he totally ruined the ending for people. In fact, because the line "I am your father" wasn't even recorded on set, Prowse recalls being surprised by the reveal at the premiere.
>The documentarians also interview Gary Kurtz, the producer of A New Hope and Empire, who claims it was just an amazingly lucky guess. So either Prowse's random bullshitting stumbled upon one of the biggest moments in movie history, or George Lucas was pulling story ideas from magazine interviews given by his non-speaking supporting cast.

of course it does not give credit to the idea that Lucas actually might have thought it up and David Prowse might have absentmindedly heard it
>>
>>93827832
In fairness, when Prowse made the slip he said it was a "possible" scenario, which meant at the time of the newspaper clipping, it hadn't actually been fully decided at the time. Filming for ESB hadn't even begun when he made the statement, so he wasn't certain, he just tossed it out to the audience as a probability. It wasn't entirely random bullshitting, it just wasn't set-in-script stone at the time of the interview.

>"That’s the nature of the Sith, they don’t see anything beyond their corporeal existence. They live completely in the moment, but in the most unhealthy way. They’re self-obsessed, selfish, narcissistic, so much so that they can’t see that there’s any significance beyond their own lives. That’s not like a Jedi who’s wounded in battle but realizes that his death could mean something or inspire others, and thus can let go. If a Sith lies near death, they look at it like, “I can’t! I can’t! There’s still so much to gain. There’s still so much I want. Because if I die I lose everything.” So they continue to push themselves well past the point of logic."

A true Sith lord would never be capable of learning how to become a Force Ghost, because the Sith don't believe in life after death. It'd be more Sithlike for them to be focused on prolonging their own life in the material realm rather than ascending to a spiritual realm.

This is plausible as an explanation, but it's actually harmful to Star Wars' overall aesthetic, because the idea of Sith Lords lingering around as creepy ghosts and haunting ancient places strong in the Dark Side is fucking cool. I don't like the idea simply because it uses a philosophical justification to remove something that can generate cool visuals and moments. Star Wars should never do that.

I always preferred that the Sith version always seemed like they were tethered to certain locations, they weren't free-roaming Force ghosts like the Jedi ones were. It gave the Sith that "tied to the mundane world" vibe they always had, but still left the option of some shitbag ancient Sith Lord haunting some place of power, whether there by choice or not. It also made places steeped in dark side power of more importance than what nu-canon seems to think of them.

Belief isn't relevant; it's about power and what you can do with it. Sith trump Nightsisters every time, ergo there's nothing a Nightsister can do that a Sith couldn't. It's sloppy logic to even consider otherwise, and that's why Lucas is a deluded hack with a tiny mind and his buttboys Filoni and Hidalgo are cowards for not telling him so.

Star Wars is Lucas' vision that was refined and developed by dozens of other writers, artists, actors, and directors. It's imperative that Lucas, like all creators, have someone around to tell him when he's making a creative mistake.

you're right, it's Lucas' vision, and he has every right to alter it as he sees fit or keep things exactly as he wants them, and that's what's done, that's even what's still done with the LSG as they are frequently in contact with Lucas on an unofficial basis

he has every right to dictate the nature of his story without a committee upending it

He knew no such thing. Yoda guilted himself into allowing the training after Qui-Gon's death and made Windu suck it up. Windu knew it was a bad idea and didn't do anything about it. Windu never bought into that Chosen One shit, as evidenced by his attitude towards Anakin in ROTS, but he was still too chicken to defy Yoda.

>lore consistency

Talk about poor fucking decisions. Who gives a shit about lore consistency? Star Wars is purely about being cool. That, in fact, is my entire point with Sith Ghosts. They should be in because they're cool, and being cool is the whole reason behind everything worthwhile in Star Wars. It's not deep. It doesn't exist to convey some fundamental message or glorify God or anything like that. The entire reason anything good in Star Wars is good is because it's cool. Star Wars is the most spectacular media creation of the 20th Century, but there's nothing more to it than coolness. So, yes, the story group should absolutely be willing to chuck "lore consistency" out the window in the name of coolness, because that's all Star Wars is.

George said Sith cant be ghosts because they dont deserve eternal life and happiness, because their selfishness and greed and lust for power and immortality should not be rewarded.

I dont give a fuck how "cool" you think a spooky Sith ghost is, it doesn't belong in Star Wars, and it's the LSG's literal job to make sure such shit doesn't plague Star Wars ever again.

>"It's for young people. 'Graffiti' was for 16-year-olds; this is for 14-year-olds. Young people don't have a fantasy life anymore, not the way we did. All they've got is Kojak and Dirty Harry. There's all these kids running around wanting to be killer cops. "

>Looking back, Lucas is sure that "Graffiti" succeeded because he aimed it at a particular audience, just as he is doing with "Star Wars." "Nobody except Disney makes movies for young people anymore," he said. "I want to open up the whole realm of space for them. Science fiction is okay, but it got so involved with science that it forgot the sense of adventure. I want 'Star Wars' to make them think of the things that could happen. I'd like them to say, 'Gee! Wouldn't it be great if we could go and run around on Mars?' Kids today seem to be having a very boring childhood.

>"I proved that with 'Graffiti.' Teenagers just didn't have a movie they could call their own, where they could say, 'This is about me. So they took it over and made it theirs. Now I hope they'll do the same with 'Star Wars.' Kids may be a lot more worldly than they were, but I still think they'd like to have some sort of honest, clean. . ." He tailed off, suddenly embarrassed. "I mean, they should be able to go to the movies and see something.

>"The reason I'm making 'Star Wars' is that I want to give young people some sort of faraway exotic environment for their imaginations to run around in. I have a strong feeling about interesting kids in space exploration. I want them to want it. I want them to get beyond the basic stupidities of the moment and think about colonizing Venus and Mars. And the only way it's going to happen is to have some dumb kid fantasize about it--to get his ray gun, jump in his ship and run off with this wooky into outer space. It's our only hope in a way." - George Lucas, September 12, 1976

You don't understand, you probably can't, but I'll try and explain it you anyway.

It's not a matter of who HATES the franchise more, it's a matter of who LOVES the franchise more. For we so love this franchise that we would burn its very creator who raped it and whored it to mongrels who treat it as a license to print money at the expense of the story, the lore, and the history. This is bigger than George Lucas and bigger than Disney, and we will not see it dragged through the dirt by the unworthy. There will be consequences to their decisions, many of which have been made in haste and in error and in ignorance, and those shall be rejected. For that is love, pure and unmarred by greed or foolishness or sacrifice or compromise with the inferiors that lay claim to what is not rightfully theirs. It grew beyond Lucas's scope, and it's beyond what Disney can contain. They destroy what came before, we restore it. They change what came before, we will return it to what it was if such changes do no benefit.

There will come a time when the excesses of the irreverent will become a stench beyond even your capacity to endure, and on that day you will realize what those of us who grew up with this franchise already realize: you have been betrayed, for money and ideology contrary to the spirit in which Star Wars was presented. On that day, you will rage, and then you will join us. Only then will you understand the depths of our love for this franchise, and only then will you understand why we bleed with every stigmata they inflict on it.

Because no true fan can accept the destruction of what that fan venerates, not from God, from George Lucas, not from fucking anyone, and remain silent. That is why we are and always shall be the bigger fans than the sellouts and fairweathers who let parasites who pretend to care about Star Wars slap them in the face and rape their mothers and then hand them their money and thank them for their hard work.

Something that really bugged me when reading through the original Vader run was how Aphra handled the situation. When she was captured by the Rebels, she couldn't shut up about working for Vader, and continued to go by her old name despite knowing that her employer wanted to keep quiet about his plans. Not only that, but after she fakes her death, she doesn't even bother with aliases. It almost makes me wonder if Vader simply tolerated her continued existence because he thought she might be useful (that, and the latest comics imply that he remained in contact with the murder bots).

Also, does anyone wonder if Vader's personal droid army will ever become relevant again?

What's funny is that for all the excuses people make about the original being seedier or somehow more fitting to the setting, Lucas admitted that the entire reason the scene existed in the first place was because he thought it'd be funny if there was suddenly an out of place musical number in the middle of a Star Wars movie.

So the current Star Wars comics have gone at a rate of about 1 month for every 10 issues. Empire Strikes Back takes place 3 years and 1 month after A New Hope and the current comics started 7 months after A New Hope. This means that the comics will reach Empire Strikes Back around issue 270 (this is assuming they don't decide to do huge multiple month time skips here and there).

Basically, we shouldn't worry about the current comics reaching Empire Strikes Back anytime soon and we may be stuck with the OT heroes well beyond the era of the Sequel Trilogy. Though realistically they may decide to switch over to the ST heroes for marketing reasons or do entire arcs with the PT characters when they're having an oversaturation of OT and PT content everywhere else.

>before vader could actually get him transferred

>>93833140
>Vader doesn't give a shit
So Vader wouldn't give a shit about a force sensitive near him even though canonically Vader and the Empire literally put force sensitives into programs like the Inquisitors who are personally trained by Vader because they give a shit about force sensitives.
>again, if Vader did actually care, I doubt he'd let him out of his sight
True. Though in the commotion of the Battle of Tatooine it's possible that he could slip away. That was a good point that I'll have to consider.
>So basically your character is Finn but shittier and force sensitive. Are you seriously this uncreative?
You do realize that a huge portion of the Rebellion are former Stormtroopers right? How likely is it that at least one of those kids who was put into the force sensitive spy programs during Servants of the Empire attempted to defect and join Luke's Jedi during the war? If anything the Empire having records of force sensitives in their ranks is probably how Luke found his first padawans in the first place.

If you wanna make a good OC in the star wars universe, stay away from the force and big name squadrons.
>>
>>93833355
But the whole reason I have this OC is because I want an OC for the character in Commander and Uprising and in Uprising the character finds out he's force sensitive and begins training with a lightsaber.

If it helps my reason for the character being transferred to Vader is because he's a shitty Stormtrooper who's legion was put under Vader as punishment for the destruction of the Death Star. Then when he joins Luke's Jedi he's constantly disturbed by the thought of him having become an Inquisitor and killing Luke, therefore destroying the Jedi for good. Then he overcomes this when they find the program Vader would have sent him to and it was one of those experimental programs you learn about in Aftermath where the Emperor tortured force sensitives in secret labs. I even let him get killed by Kylo Ren.

Yeah, and Leia being Luke's sister was a quick way of tying up a plotline Lucas had wanted to explore in the sequel trilogy. By the time he made ROTJ he was so burnt out (on top of going through a divorce) that he just wanted to end it, so the "there is another" thread introduced in ESB had to be quickly tied up and his original idea of introducing Luke's long lost sister in future sequels had to be quickly retconned to be Leia.

You know I get that in the movie she's supposed to be presented as a "good guy" resisting the evil of the empire, but practically speaking, she's an idealist separatist sympathizer who would rather drag her family down into the dirt than let some guy she has a petty grudge against influence her husband or child. She gets her husband to drop everything and turn to a hardscrabble life just to please her politics. And then when it turns out to be all in vain, she outright tries to burn down the whole thing - self, husband, and child - rather than let one of Galen's friends have anything to do with him. In effect, this is good writing for the wrong reason, in that Rogue One portrayed the shittiest kind of awful petty selfish wife possible, and declared her to be responsible for pretty much the entire movie's sequence of events, both good and ill; all the characters respond to Lyra Erso's petty "my way or the highway" autism. There's not a man alive who will sympathize with her that isn't a nu-male, even if we can understand the critical importance (For want of a nail...) she plays in the sequence of events for the Rebellion's victory in the films.

It's not a redpill at all, the only kind of man who would say "Lyra was right!" without some sort of qualifier (well, she's kind of awful, but she did essentially help the good guys win in the end by proxy) is the kind of beta bitch boy that lets a woman walk all over them. It's actually not a new cultural phenomenon, trying to please women by sharing their opinions without having a mind of your own is just as ancient as marriage is. It's just nowadays people called them nu-males or pussies instead of browbeaten or sissies. And incidentally, that's exactly the kind of man Galen was because he let his bitch wife walk all over them and destroy his family and friendships and life in general.

He didn't even stop to consider the ramifications of that possibility, let alone discuss it with Krennic, the minute Lyra gives him HER "Redpill" holo/pol/ thread conspiracy theory screencap, he immediately accepts it and gets the fuck out of town. I'm hardly defending the empire's evil death star, but Erso's flight from Coruscant was contrived. Again, Lyra was a domineering peacenik political bitch that consistently ruined Galen's neutral bland researcher's life because she had a grudge against Krennic and the Empire. It turns out she was technically right, but as a character in universe she didn't know that, she was just a selfish arrogant cunt.
>>
>>93839005
If it wasn't for her the Empire would have succeeded with the Death Star.
>>
>>93839045
Actually in a sense she is both responsible for the Death Star's advancement AND it's eventual destruction. Keep in mind, they would have gotten around to it anyway, just a lot slower, Galen admits as much. So whether she fucked off to the space boondocks or left him on Coruscant it was irrelevant, as the Empire had Galen either way. However there's not quite anyway of telling where Jyn and security breaches would have come into the picture, Galen might still have been able to sabotage the project WITHOUT having to have a dead wife, a dead kid, and a dead self.
>>
>>93839045
Sure, because Galen is too stupid to have figured out on his own how to sabotage his creations. He is just absolutely a worthless goose without a woman to prompt him into doing anything.

The characters on Rogue One barely have any personality traits to distinguish them outside of Donnie Yen.

Good thing you won't have to bother because we won't get any movies with them in, in the future.

Actual non-movie content, though, that's another thing. Cassian and K2 may show up in Rebels, and we know they are getting a comic in September at least. Chirrut and Baze were old enough and connected to the Jedi mythos well enough for them to potentially be in future TPM or earlier content.
>>
>>93840472
>caring about them in future movies
that's what I hate about rogue one
LSG and Disney is clearly trying to market these one shot characters as hot shit but the only heat they have is their vaporization by the death star blast which renders them popcorn flick characters at best, which is a total shame because they were considerably better written than Rey, Finn, and Poe
>>
>>93840485

Eh, to each their own.

I'm just laying out my point of view. I'm much kinder to RO's characters then a lot of other people considering I grew up watching the kind of Dirty Dozen/Where Eagles Dare kind of war mission movies it was based on so I knew what it was going for. And I thought Jyn had a couple of decent character beats that came from Felicity's talents as an actress more then what was on the page.

But if say, Jyn had lived and came back in TLJ or the Han Solo movie or some bullshit I wouldn't care. They had no shelf life outside of that one movie, which is kind of a first for SW in the films.

>>93840526

>but the only heat they have is their vaporization by the death star blast which renders them popcorn flick characters at best, which is a total shame because they were considerably better written than Rey, Finn, and Poe

First of all all the characters in SW are "popcorn flick" types, they're simple pulp archetypes by design.

Second of all that argument makes no sense. Characters can't have meaning if they only live for one movie?

that's essentially what I just said about the toasted Rogue One chars, they have no more potential for depth outside of that which was already given in the movie (and catalyst to an extent), whereas the "shallow" characters of the rest of the franchise counterintuitively have much greater capacity for depth and characterization and greater meaning
>>

>Also kids can handle darkness. Rogue One wasn't exactly Saving Private Ryan.
You're right; at least a few characters survived SPR. The only difference between SPR and Rogue One is that it doesn't show explicit gore or have heavy curse words, otherwise, RO is significantly darker in many respects, especially the cringeworthy fanwank Vader scene at the end which could have been handled way better.

Furthermore is the in and out of universe handling of the Rogue One characters. Gareth Edwards literally described them as the "forgotten heroes of the rebellion" and that's exactly what they are. When Han dies in episode 7 its impactful because other characters know who he is and respond. When everybody in Rogue One dies, that's the end of it, nobody really knows or cares about them other than that the Rebellion is generically thankful for their sacrifice. They are the Unknown Soldier; those guys that did something but which we don't know and therefore don't matter, because they are literally replaceable in the minds of everyone else. Luke and Leia will never know of the heroism of Jyn and Cassian and K2SO and Baze and Bodhi and Chirrut et al. They are just "some nameless mooks who died so that we don't have to."

Which makes the Saving Private Ryan comparison all the more spurious; Matt Damon's Ryan character at the end, weeps and salutes his fallen Captain. He remembers. The galaxy - and the audience - do not remember Rogue One the characters, just Rogue One the scifi spectacle of cool battles and explosions.

Luke and Leia will never know of the heroism of Jyn and Cassian and K2SO and Baze and Bodhi and Chirrut et al. They are just "some nameless mooks who died so that we don't have to."

All of this is why I like the movie.

They did their job, they were a piece of a greater whole. They were soldiers who served their cause without a need for glory, even if they aren't remembered their contribution mattered.

Nothing happens in Episode I, you could start with Attack of the Sand and not miss anything of importance.

I used to believe this but when I rewatched the saga in chronological order I realized Episode I is essential to see the seeds of the dark side planted in Anakin, the beginning of the fall of the Jedi Order, and Palpatine's machinations.

except huge Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padme characterization and foreshadowing, to say nothing of Qui-Gon and Maul, and the whole thematic emphasis on Fatherhood

I love all three Prequels myself but my ranking would probably be

Episode III > Episode I > Episode II

Everything comes to a very good head in Episode III, and is the dramatic conclusion we were all waiting for. Episode I is the first and last adventure of childlike whimsy before we're thrust into the reality of the adult world of Episode II. And Episode II is arguably the more intriguing of the three with how much more political it is, as well as with how much of the world it shows you just from the Coruscant chase alone.

>>93840865
I've seen this argument against Episode I a lot, but honestly, considering where everyone is at that point in time, I really don't think traditional character development was necessary for it. Many of the characters within were already very sure of themselves and their positions in life. The character development of the Prequels is better looked for as strewn across all three films as opposed to complete arcs exclusive to each individual film. Compared to the Originals, the Prequels were arguably a single story not quite so easily divided into books.

In Episode I, Obi-Wan is the arrogant but obedient Apprentice. In Episode II, Obi-Wan is the arrogant still, now rigid and jealous Master. In Episode III, having been relieved of his duty as a teacher, he's much more relaxed and willing to cut loose.

All through the Prequels, Anakin is in need of a dedicated father figure. Qui-Gon was the best hope for this, being the 1950s axiom of "father knows best", but he gets undercut and Anakin is constantly caught between Obi-Wan and Palpatine: the former never really wanted anything to do with him and the latter keeps feeding his ego and darker impulses. Only when Anakin and Obi-Wan have both matured relative to one another in Episode III does Anakin realize that Obi-Wan was never much of a father but a brother, does he start hovering more towards Palpatine as he's the one who'd all this time given him what he's "needed".

Memery aside. My main gripe with Rey is still that she just got too many tasks in the team, the piloting, the mechanic and the jedi part. Fin didn't end up doing all that much besides gunnery and sticking around. Or at least that's how I remember it.

I can see your point, TFA is pretty top-heavy from a character point, it's the Rey and Kylo show co-starring everyone else. But I liked Rey enough as a character that I ended up not minding.

I can see that argument, but it really feels like Episode I is just table scraps and the huge time-jump between I and II makes it feel like Anakin, Obi-Wan and Padme are completely different characters and it renders the characterisation in the first one pointless.

All the juicy character stuff that I should care about is in II and III, the big time skip along with the total shift in villains makes the first one feel like a useless spin-off.

At least it looks nice, it's far and away the most cinematic and has way less of the god-awful CGI buildings that the other two have.

Hey, let's say I have a kyber crystal the size of the Falcon, and I build a crude ship around it. Basically just a hyperdrive, hull, and an AI pilot.

Then I jump it to the coordinates smack in the center of a planet. What happens?

Better to look at Episode I as the foundational piece to II and III in that case. While it may not relate directly to the rest of the trilogy as II and III do to one another, the plot threads that link the latter two all carry over from I. It's also better not to look at the characters as just that and consider them more as people. Actual personal development takes place over a long time and isn't exclusive particular narrative arcs. The reason why they seem so different from what they were in Episode I is because they'd all taken on new stations in life. And with new station comes an adjustment of persona. Obi-Wan had to force himself to become his ideal of a Master which ended up being a pretty bad teacher. Anakin had to suppress much of his childishness and spontaneity for something far more rigid than he imagined. And Padme was still dedicated to serving people, but now had to do it on a much more contrived and cynical stage completely separate from Naboo.

Well sure, but the issue is I also think it's a bad movie on its own. Not as bad as Clones, but I can't enjoy it as its own adventure. And it sets up a bunch of narrative detritus that only makes any sort of logical sense if it's going to matter in the sequels like the Trade Federation and the Gungans, both of whom are forgotten or treated as jokes in the sequels.

All of which sounds nice on paper but fails in execution due to Lucas' inability to write meaningful character arcs outside of simple hero's journey narratives.

That's stupid. Being a fan of something doesn't mean you have to be a blind cultist who loves everything unconditionally.

All of them are victim of the simple hero journey trope.
>>93841861
Examples of characters, not entire films full of nothing but characters on a simple hero's journey narrative. Lucas's films are endemic with it, from Graffiti all the way though Willow. There are no complexities in any character he wrote; you only find those in characters others have written, like Ahsoka.

Don't give me this horseshit. Lucas stopped having some kind of auteurist ownership over the SW franchise the second the EU existed.

Just because the original creator makes soemthign doesn't make it inherently worthwhile or more important, that's more bullshit cult mentality.
