Eh, to me that just seems like ignoring character development. Though I do think the book has gotten better since the first issue. Helps that it turns out the priest isn't dead, the symbiote knows Eddie was the one who trapped it, and there seems to be a reason for the symbiote's degrading mentality.

It's not good at all because that means this is one editorial choice away from going totally bonkers, such as them killing Eddie and having Liz take his place. I mean what's stopping that? Love or hate it you need a tight hold of your lore and how you treat it otherwise you just have hollow puppets that have no soul and are just used as pleased by the flavor of the month.

Flash returned to Earth to help Mania with the whole devil-mark thing. While he was on Earth, he got ambushed by some corrupt FBI agents who were trying to capture the symbiote so they used a heavy duty sonic weapon on him, which dislodged Venom from Flash and caused the two to get seperated.

While the symbiote was trying to re-find Flash, it was getting too weak from being seperated from a host. Then it found this guy named Lee and overheard that he was a former army ranger. Since Flash was in the army, the symbiote associated Army = Good Guys and bonded with him. Unfortunately, Lee turned out to be a hyper-edge lord of the highest caliber and his influence fucked the symbiote up further. After that, Eddie helped separate the symbiote from Lee and bonded with it again because he was going through symbiote withdrawal after losing Toxin.
