I guess we were due for another one

>DC Comics’ Earth One line of graphic novels continues to expand, this time into the far reaches of space with Green Lantern: Earth One Vol. 1 by writer Corinna Bechko and writer/artist Gabriel Hardman with colorist Jordan Boyd.

>Earth One stories reintroduce DC’s greatest heroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in a fresh comic book universe unburdened with years of continuity, often significantly changing elements of each character to better modernize their origins and create exciting new tales.

>For Green Lantern, the story sees Hal Jordan re-envisioned as an astronaut who seeks the thrill of discovery, yet finds himself in an unfulfilling job prospecting asteroids for Ferris Galactic. His fortunes change when he finds a powerful green ring and learns that it came from the Green Lantern Corps, a group that was long ago murdered by killing machines called Manhunters. This sets him on a mission to reinstate the Corps, a nearly impossible task for the fearless Jordan.
>>
>“Approaching this as an Earth One story gives us the opportunity to go back to the core concept of Green Lantern and interpret it through the lens of a modern, grounded sci-fi story while still being true to the Silver Age roots of Hal Jordan,” Hardman said in a press release. “Having storyboarded Interstellar, this is an approach I’m comfortable with and have wanted to explore in comics. Realistic sci-fi is only the beginning of this story; we have something much more epic in store.”

>Whereas Jordan is usually depicted as a cocky, hothead test pilot, he’s now a scientist who yearns to make new discoveries, so how he approaches using the ring will be different.

>“Hal Jordan is a smart, capable person with a space and science background who has a lot of untapped potential even before he finds the ring,” Bechko explained. “That means he’s going to approach everything the ring does from the perspective of a scientist, but he’s going to employ it for action and adventure. The result for us as writers is the opportunity to fully embrace the science fiction aspects of the story in a way that would be impossible with a lot of other characters.”

>This is the latest collaboration from Bechko and Hardman, a longstanding comics duo known for their work on Star Wars: Legacy, Savage Hulk and Invisible Republic.

>Green Lantern: Earth One Vol. 1 will release on March 20, 2018.

How is it that they announced aquaman and flash 2 years back but this gets released so quickly.
>>
>>93817140
Cool! Is it coming on Oct?
>>
>>93817180
Aquaman is delayed because Manapul is doing Trinity and they probably want it to come out with the movie.

JMS quit comics so I don't know what they'll do for Flash.
>>
>>93817165
>>93817188
Oh wait, it's going to be March....

Still cool!
>>
>>93817204
Morrison also was supposed to be doing Multivesity 2, starting with Flash. Nothing was heard of it since the announcement.
It's the curse of the Speedforce.
>>
>>93817204
>JMS quit comics so I don't know what they'll do for Flash.
I reallllly hope they give it to another writer.

Superman Earth One was so disappointing.
>>
Writer/artist any good?
>>
>>93817140
Nice. I guess that's his costume though. Plus he is smart now.

So flash and aquaman are next. They probably will let Morrisons flash be the flash.
>>
>>93817623
>They probably will let Morrisons flash be the flash.
I hope not.
I want a line of Multiversity Too instead of them just doing what they did with his WW OGN
>>
>>93817554

They are really good and they both have experience with both classic and modern sci-fi.

Invisible Republic was some good yet under-rated political / sci-fi thriller and Hardman is a great artist who storyboarded Interstellar and Logan.
>>
>>93817140
Noice!
We need some more GL (and Flash) OGN-s, those are really rare
Hardman is a great artist, haven't read anything by him or Bechko, but hope this anon is right >>93817671
>>
>>93817165
>Hal Jordan is a smart, capable person with a space and science background
>in the same universe as idot Bruce
Oh my god
This is going to be magical
>>
>>93817909
Was this Johns' plan all along?
>>
>>93817909
Now I just hope that New Earth Hal and Bruce meet their Earth One counterparts.

This Hal sounds moe already

>>93817655
Depends. Or maybe jms still writing earth 1. It's was rumored to be about Barry who stands so still he can see and do everything faster. Like Hunters powers.
>>
>>93818051
Here's what Morrison said about Multiversity Too:

>On finally telling the Flash story he’s wanted to write for a very long time:

>>[I’m] doing the Flash almost as a sci-fi story where it’s a guy getting faster. Really simple, a Richard Matheson idea like “Shrinking Man,” or Stephen King’s “Thinner” where you just take a really simple notion — bigger, smaller. This one, he’s someone getting faster. What does that mean? And seeing how The Flash would emerge from just this very simple scientist getting faster story. So I’m doing that, and to a certain extent it’s a revamp, but it’s happening outside the main continuity.

>On why Barry Allen:

>>I love Wally West, but this one I want to be Barry Allen. He fits in better. I like the idea of the police forensic scientist. And I know they’ve done a lot more of that in the recent [comics], but back in the day that was barely looked at. And I want to do the Iris relationship, the idea of this girl who’s like super fast in this city who’s obsessed with fashion and they all drink coffee. It’s just a fast city and [all that] information. And she can’t stop talking — like me, I can’t stop talking. And Barry’s this methodical guy and suddenly he’s like he’s on speed all the time and it’s just getting worse and worse and worse. And she’s kind of having to deal with her boyfriend who she quite liked as being the slow, methodical guy is suddenly turned into this pop star, this fizzing as if he’s on coke constantly. And there’s there’s also a tragedy of what happens as we start to approach the speed of light.
>>
>>93818051
Earth 1 aquaman would have no boots or gloves.

Couldn't get into it, Earth-1 Batman had the appeal of Bruce being a fuckup/ what a "realistic" Batman would look like and I liked Earth-1 Superman though I know a lot of people don't like how Clark's fucking a prostitute.

I really love Superman Earth One.

Teen titans the first volume was trash.
WW the first volume was boring.
Batman the second volume was good.

But for me, the superman's ones were the best.

>>
>>93818183
I actually really wanted to like White Knight but of course the writer's gonna shove politics into it.
Literally not even /pol/, I just hate when people shove politics into things that should be politically benign. That goes for both sides of the spectrum.

>Thanks Anon, is that the only elseworld where Bruce is a "badguy"? (Not including earth-3)

Earth-51 depends on whether you think Bruce's actions there after Jason was killed (basically killing all the villains and indirectly causing the superheroes to grow too complacent) makes him a "badguy".

And of course the upcoming Metals event or whatever it's called will have a bunch of evil Batmen.

Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a name when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your name when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a name when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

I don't know if I'd count I, Joker because even though there's an Evil Batman, regular Batman was shown to have existed in the far past. Evil Batman (and I think his predecessors?) were people who found Bruce Wayne was Batman and were basically tarnishing his legacy.
>>
>>93818918
Nah. Earth 1 is about updating and give characters flaws.

It does retain the core earth 1 characters being used and the old hard science. Pre crisis the guardians sent the magic of the Earth 1 universe to the earth 2 universe.

Post crisis dc to up is more magic based because it is a merged universe retaining earth 2 elements.

It was mainly in the early Gil Kane days where they were trying to have the rings actions sorta realistic and would have Hal do things like changing the chemical makeup of shit to get around his yellow weakness. There's also the times he went to the 58th Century as Pol Manning as was essentially what this new book is going to portray him as.

Shit, when the Titans encounter Blackfire, who in this continuity is heavily developmentally/mentally challenged and clearly being manipulated by the villians, they immediately call her a monster and kill her without a shred of trepidation or remorse. E1 TT was really weird.

>they immediately call her a monster and kill her without a shred of trepidation or remorse.
Eh Jericho hijacked that bizarro monstrosity and was using it as his body.
>>
>>93822717
Bendis?
>>
>>93822956
IIRC he was still inside his dad (heh) at that point. Then again the book was very forgettable and I could be off.
>>
>>93822291
Wolfman's Hal was kind of a flake but he also did stuff like build a giant functioning construct solar panel wall based on half finished plans he'd seen
>>
>>93823017
I could also be misremembering it but I explicitly remember Jericho taking over Blackfire after a point of their fight and trying very hard to murder them.

>(Who are we kidding? These are pitches for movies aimed at movie executives who think direct-to-hardcover = good story.)
You're confusing these with the New 52. Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman's volumes have all been clearly shown as being too different from the main universe to be adapted.

DC wanted cinematic, marketable volume ones with a cinematic aesthetic; that's why everyone got their trunks removed, and instead of spandex they started wearing shiny armor with Tron lines. It's also why you see Cyborg and the Johns Justice League fucking everywhere.
>>
>>93817140
Watch them change him into a nigger or a spic
>>
>>93823090
Cyborg was just there to fill the token black guy spot because Johns wasn't going to allow Hal to be taken off the JL team in the DCEU in favor of John Stewart.

Then why have it be Hal at all when he will have a totally different personality?
>>
>>93823034
The guy is a pilot. He's obviously not a genius but pilots are required to learn pretty advanced physics and math. Hal was most likely taught how to design planes, IIRC there was a story where he designed the plane simulator he used himself.

I unironically like Earth one batman. He might be an idiot that needs to be told all the things he'll need to learn to fight crime but he has his heart in the right place and works towards becoming a real Batman.
>>
>>93823154
Wolfman wrote the best Hal ever.
>>
>>93823268
That was his origin in the silver age, he designed the simulator himself and was testing it

Because if you give him a new name people bitch about there being yet another human American GL even in an Elseworlds?
>>

There are no Lantern's that fit that archetype in the main universe anyways, so why not just call this new character Hal to make things a bit easier?

The future needs a defender, and they have none of their own, so they bring Hal to the future. For a reason I can't quite recall (possibly that their Time Travel wipes memories), they have to implant memories of being Pol Manning, a space explorer into Hal Jordan, before sending him to fight. They also manufacture a romantic ibterest who ends up actually falling for him. A few stories happened around this theme, then it disappeared for a while. The last time it was mentioned was when they accidentally took Salaak istead, in the 80s. He stayed in the future for a while, but eventually came back.

JMS doesn't write comics anymore. I wonder if DC would let anyone else write it?
>>
>>93825497
Well if JMS said he's not gonna do it I hope they'd let someone else take over

Especially Flash since there's no material for that out yet anyway

Sounds cool. About time there was a different take on the GL mythos, it's gotten stale.
>>
>>93827736
I'm worried any sequels will just end up like normal canon GL.

I'm okay with the GL corps existing but they need to stay away from the rest of the colors and do some other cosmic stuff. DC
>>
>>93827846
it'll probably end with more GLs existing but hopefully they keep the same creative team and it stays more scifi-y

>guess we were due for another one
That sentence perfectly encapsulates my feelings on earth one.

earth one comics aren't terrible, but they aren't good or memorable. They occupy a mediocre middle that DC has just decided to continue forever now.

DC will make the world safe for boring origin retreads.

>Superman: Earth One

It's a movie script in graphic novel form. The art has a lot of really nice things in it and then the face (especially Clark's face, which is essentially everywhere so it's unavoidable) are ALL drawn, throughout v1-v2 so that it looks like every face is looking off to one side.

Some people really liked the story, others are less so. My opinion is that vol 2 repeats a lot of the beats of vol. 1, and that over each issue has one or more problems in the story in each.

>>93818481
>Teen titans

This was particularly different and, in that regard, it made it interesting. The problem with it is that the first novel was all set and it's not until the second novel that it even starts to pay off. That would be fine for Image, but not for something like this.

Some GL not drenched in Geoff Johns stupidity is fine by me.

Sort of. That's the way they were listed in the Multiverse guidebook, but they're mostly their own thing. Basically, it's another shot at DC's version of an Ultimate line.
