There's nothing "more proper" about that name. That was just a placeholder name given to them before they were named.

Generations aren't named when they are born, but when they reach adulthood. And we (everyone born from ~1983 - ~1999, the cut-offs are blurry, but generally a generation is around 15-20 years) are Millennials.
