Her death is based off SotN. The Netflix series takes aspects of SotN (Lisa's Death, Alucard & Dracula's design, Alucard's weapon, etc.) & Mixes it with Dracula's Curse, which of you didn't know is the Subtitle of Castlevania 3. We've only gotten 4 episodes. But of the action in particular at the very least, I have to say that I am very much so pleasantly surprised.

I like the wide array of moves and abilities that they incorporate into the design of the scenes. Like Trevor actually appears to use the full range of abilities that his character was supposed to have, whip, sword, and sub weapons included. They didn't simply reduce him to just whip, or worse yet, just sword. And they didn't ignore clever use of sub weapons and stuff and actually has him use them in tandem with everything else.
Likewise Alucard actually moves and abilities straight from the games. They didn't just do some twilight vampire crap.

It's much better than I dared to anticipate. It's great really. And not only does it do the above. It does it relatively cleverly too. Like the whip usage in video related. Hopefully they keep it up.

In the original games, it was Grant who said that Dracula killed his family, and perhaps you could make this true...

Perhaps his family was destroyed by others, but he blames Dracula for the death of his family. Why not, right? The Draculesti and Danesti families share a common ancestor, and villagers who hate the Dark Lord would likely target the Danesti family simply because of their relation to the Dark Lord, no matter how distant.

Either way, Grant's story becomes much more interesting, and you can take it further by drawing parallels between him and Trevor; both are the last sons of once great families, hated by the people of Wallachia for similar reasons. Make him a nastier Trevor, so that he can see what he could become, and be disgusted by it. Have Grant see that for all the shit flung his way, Trevor persevered, and that inspires Grant to be better.

They both see themselves, and what they could have been in one another, and for different reasons, inspires them to become better people.

1) Because its an adult cartoon that's not a raunchy comedy or ultra-depressing drama. Those are VERY few and far between
2) It's a complete action show, and an action horror at that. Most action cartoons coming out nowadays are either mediocre action comedies, or toyetic/tie-in shows.
3) Some people may still be feeling burned after Samurai Jack's rather divisive final season. So seeing another action show aimed at adults gives them a small amount of hope
4) It's an adaptation of a game series that was thought dead and buried at this point.
5) Crossboarders from /a/ who don't really like what recent anime seasons have to offer see this as a fresh alternative
6) People just really want an action/horror cartoon
