65 years ago today, the first issue of MAD was published (it wouldn't hit newsstands until August).
In honor of this historic event in comics, I will be storytiming the first six issues of MAD.
I hope you'll enjoy it and BUMP if you're reading!

Thanks for posting these OP. I remember when I was a kid these were reprinted as Mad Classics. I didn't get most of the jokes, but I kept buying because I liked the art (especially the way they drew chicks). It's cool reading it now that I understand the jokes and stuff they're spoofing. The art is just as cool as I remember.

Kurtzman's MAD holds up pretty well most of the time. Post-Kurtzman era varies depending on creator.

Crazy to think there was a time when the Blackhawks were relevant enough to have parodies made off them.

It was so popular back then that DC was willing to keep continuing it uninterrupted when they got it from Quality Comics.
There was some stuff parodied in Kurtzman's MAD that I'm not even sure the modern casual audience would even get.
Like for instance there was a parody of "The Continental" and most people today may only know of it because of SNL's parody of that show, with Christopher Walken.
It kinda makes you wonder what popular stuff now or in the last two decades will still remain popular and which ones will be mostly forgotten. Or remembered in a new context.

/r9k/ in a nutshell right here.
Have they ever released old (60s-90s) Mad Magazine in some omnibus or anthology format? I desperately need them but do they seriously not have those saved somehow?
