So the recent CalExit thread got me thinking about about this comic. And with North Korea in the media again this story from 2004 seems as topical as ever, despite the references to Kim Jong-il. Just imagine they're saying un.
Here's Peter Bagge's Apocalypse Nerd.
>>93763053
>North Korea
>A threat
They honestly believe Americans still use M1 Garands and M3 grease guns, if they went full retarded and started a war they'd be absolutely stomped in days.
>>93763153
>How could some redneck kill the entire radio signal?
Never doubt the power of the ghost
>>93763085
It's mostly beside the point to be fair. It just provides the premise for the story, and for all our protagonists know Korea could just be a scapegoat.
>>93763341
Hey, i lived three years of college eating only this
>>93763857
God! Stop killing people you two
>>93763972
It's only going to get worse. Bagge is pretty unsparing in his presentation of human nature.
Thanks for the bumps, by the way.
>>93764149
Don't trust them!
They will ask you to do a lot of shitty missions and then get mad on you for helping other people
>>93764253
Oh YEAH! Wasteland summer camp comedy adventure!
Let's steal supplies and panties from the girls camp!
>>93764360
"Most of them are just Nerds like us pretending to be Romans, Cowboys and Knights! Pretty much larping with real guns!"
>>93764746
jesus
>>93764746
>>93764763
>>93764781
Jesus Christ I went from ambivalent towards this chick to absolutely loathing her in no time flat.
>>93764781
Yeah! Make more babies you idiots! This is what we need right now
>>93764802
You're gonna like this page then.
>>93764804
You have to boild it! Too much muscle
>>93764830
For fucks sake! Choose a consistent personality you bitch
>>93764893
I think Perry is my new favorite character
He never stops being likeable, but still develops and adapts with the time
>>93764924
His development is the main theme of the comic. We're almost to the end, and everyone's been through a lot in the course of six issues.
>>93764996
Oh no, it's one of those "He could have gotten out fine but then he misunderstood and now he's stuck in the woods."
>>93765013
Gordo's reappearance casts doubt on that notion for several reasons. At this point there may be no going back.
And that's that.
>>93765043
The fact that he mentions seeing a wanted poster with his face on it says that things are at least getting stable. The whole Nuclear Bomb thing would be more of an incident in the case of NK firing at us, rather than The Apocalypse.
>>93765058
Thanks anon, this was amazing
>>93765077
>>93765058
Scratch everything I said, towns still irradiated to hell I guess. Surprised Government doesn't just evacuate the whole place and Chernobyl it.
Overall good read, didn't like the abrupt ending.
Wow... that was honestly super depressing.
Damn fine comic book though, I like how the cartoony artstyle helps ease the horror of what's happening.
>>93765078
>>93765120
I'm glad you liked it. Frankly I'm not a fan of Bagge's art, but over time I've come to appreciate his ability to craft some really thoughtful comics. My favorite are his historical strips.
>>93765160
have you read his more seminal comics like neat stuff or hate?
>>93763053
If anything, reading this just reminded me that if Nuclear War were upon us, there would be no way I could ever survive in the post world. I couldn't. I'm too fat, to out of shape, and too accustomed to the world of technology, Video games of course.
Once all of that goes away forever, there'll be nothing but eating whatever I can find, and slowly dying, either emotionally, or physical, whichever comes first.
No for me, my idea for the end of the world is me watching the fireworks, and then killing myself so I can die with the old world.
>>93765190
Not much of his early stuff. I've read some Hate, but I think they were later issues. I just recently discovered his editorial cartoons for Reason, and have been going through those.
>>93765286
Likewise
Does anybody know where I can find some more of Bagge's work?
If I remember correctly, this thing got canceled half way trough, didn't it?
>>93763085
...and in the meantime, kill a million south koreans and level teh capital.
I liked the way it ended. Perry and Midge will probably get away with what they've done. No witnesses to tie them to anything. They be found eventually and by then they'll have a cover story ready in case of being questioned by the authorities.
Good read. Thanks.
>>93765320
Oh I guess it didn't >>93765058 but it just doesn't feel like an ending, I read it first as a kid and I assumed it had to have more issues.
>>93765389
And one hell of a story to tell the kids.
>>93765389
They've still got those dead army guys a stone's throw away from them and all the weapons and stuff they took lying in their cabin.
I guess they could claim they were already dead when they found them but still.
>>93763603
Fuck me, this took a dark turn.
>>93766034
Guy's art-style and story subject are really dissonant. On the plus side, it really takes the edge off from the tough shit's that happening. If he had a more realistic style, he'd be labeled an edgelord half way trough.
>>93763085
I hope
>>93766633
You shouldn't. They know that they have no chance against the USA, so they'll just shell the fuck out of South Korea if a war breaks out. Not to mention that those poor people really aren't at fault here, it's the corrupt fucks who are in charge that are at fault.
There's still hope for the country if it goes democratic and opens it's borders. Then no one will have any excuses to embargo it anymore and the nuclear weapons will be a good political bargaining chip. It'll basically be just another nuclear shithole no one can do anything about like Pakistan and India.
