I'll start first: Ralph Bakshi and his amazing epic American Pop.
>>
>>93757943
I guarantee no one on /co/ has ever heard or seen this work of art
>>
>>93757943
>American Pop

Underrated as a film, but not as a work of animation.

If you're going to film the entire thing as a live action movie and then rotoscope it, then what's the point? The animation was an afterthought; a gimmick.
>>
>>93758026
And MoCap is any better?
>>
Tony was a piece of shit.
>>
I have never heard of this movie in my life, but I'm about to go watch it now. Better be good, anon.

I'd like to nominate The Last Unicorn as one of the best underrated animated movies of all time. I didn't appreciate it as a child, but watching it as an adult is a whole different experience.
>>
>>93758199
If you liked A Scanner Darkly and An American Tail, you'll like American Pop.
>>
>>93758159
He was sadly a product of his upbringing. No dad, and his mom moved on to somebody else and had another person's kids. He grew up an afterthought.
>>
>>93758326
His dad was retarded too.
>>
>>93758326
Benny getting killed in WWII was actually sad to see.
>>
>>93758381
How so?
>>
>>93758381
His dad was a patriot who wanted to protect his home and family.
>>
>>93758399
Setting down his gun and playing a piano in the middle of war.
>>
>>93758412
He literally said he was going because he liked the hat, unless he was just being a wiseass.
>>
>>93758429
Dude liked music and thought the place was cleared. You spend so long in hell like that, I could understand falling to temptation of a moment's reprieve.
>>
>>93758495
The smallest distraction in between battles can be a morale booster
>>
>>93758199
Wasn't The Last Unicorn written by the same guy who wrote for the animated LOTR movie?
>>
>>93758026
MoCap is far lazier than rotoscoping due to how quickly MoCap can be done. Rotoscoping takes months and possibly years to do.
>>
Ralph Bakshi is truly one of the greats
>>
>>93758931
Admit it: the sequel to Fritz the Cat was actually subpar
>>
>>93758439
Of course he was being a wise ass, sarcasm was a large part of his character.
He wanted to go because he felt unfulfilled sitting around home playing music when there was a war going on, like he said "this isn't work, it's play"
>>
>>93758965
he didn't make that one in any way.
>>
>>93759061
I remember a significant part of his character also being an autistic kid that seldom spoke at the start.
>>
>>93758965
A movie Bakshi was in no way involved with.

Most of these. Probably just exclude Don Bluth and his movies on here, which are properly highly rated, and Gore Verbinski and Wes Anderson, who as I understand it are properly highly rated as directors even if their movies on here are still underrated.

Kinda nice that having the directors listed on here has paid off for once.

I think Kanashimi no Belladonna (ENG: The Tragedy of Belladonna or Belladonna of Sadness depending on who you ask) is technically an anime, but I think it should be on the list. It inspired some of the greatest anime directors and it's such a ride to watch. It's incredibly unique, very dark themes though. After being only available in potato quality for years, some company finally decided to restore the movie. I'm not sure if there's a torrent up for that, though. If you want something artsy, dark, and beautiful, I highly recommend it.

I've heard very good things and I do intend to get around to seeing it.

But, no, I'm afraid I won't be adding it to the image. If I were to start putting in anime then I'd might as well make an entire image of just anime. Which I don't think I need to because /a/ has already made dozens of images like that.

>>
>>93764894
Because Satan understand's man's torment as they live through time. He understand's the protagonist's desire to truly separate himself from god by being his own individual in this giant uncaring universe. Satan also understands that Humanity is imperfect, and that's what makes it such a unique and wonderful species, as friendly and polite as Human can be, they can also be as cruel and abominable towards each other. The film is Man's journeys, dealing with ways he can rise above god in some form, whether through monuments and great deeds, or by simple being a good person to others and indulging, to the end of it just giving up and wishing for a better society, until at least they enter the far future where all is snow and ice.

Kinda kills the end a bit for me that the reconciliation between God, Satan, and Man is "Just deal with it, your wife is preggo so stop being a bitch and deal with shit sucking."

I mostly agree with this bar the assertion that man was shown to rise above god. Adam himself asks god if humanity could ever "draw nigh thy throne". Also, I feel like not every act was about getting close to god. Egypt was about becomeig a god of sorts but Rome was about hedonism for instance

Just finished watching Tower on Netflix. It's a documentary about the Texas university shooting and it shows how rotoscope can really take you into a moment. Highly recommend it. Fleischer: Mr. Bug Goes to Town
The most underrated animated film in history imo.
The film was capable of competing with the Disney golden-era films.
Just too bad the film didn't age well.

Ghibli: Ponyo
The most underrated Miyazaki film imo.
Ponyo is a bit difficult to fully understand, since the story is filled with metaphors, but nonetheless I like the film.
Disney USA and John Lasseter really did a class-act job for producing Miyazaki films in the US.

Disney: Lion King
It really gets me triggered when I search about Lion King on internet, because I always get this shitty meme "a rip-off of Tezuka".
Literally the bullshitest thing I've ever seen, and I feel Lion King still doesn't get enough credit because of this.
I've spent a fuckton of time to refute Tezuka fags on internet, my fight is still going on.

Pixar: Toy Story 2
I know TS2 is often considered a filler between 1 and 3, but the film is still great.
TS2 is pure underrated.

Toei: Galaxy Express 999 (I)
The most underrated anime film in history imo.
The art, the story, the music, everything is legit.
The only problem is the film looks old as fuck.
Same goes for "The Castle of Cagliostro" and "Aim for the Ace".

>Lion King
>underrated

It is incredibly highly rated. Only basement dwellers even know about Kimba and the controversy in the first place, most normies think TLK is one of the best most recognizable movies ever. If anything it's overrated.

If you want to complain about the Tezuka controversy, it's really a very separate matter. It hardly affects TLK's overall rating at all. You'd might as well get upset that TLK reputation is "tainted" by all the deviantart furry porn, for how much it actually matters. Which is silly.

Personally I think it's undeniable that The Lion King drew at least certain inspirations and elements from Kimba the White Lion, but I also don't think it's worth getting any panties in a twist over.

I'd say that out of Disney the most underrated movie would be at least one of the package era movies, which are more or less completely unknown. At the very least some of the individual segments in them deserve a lot more credit, like Mickey and the Beanstalk.
