So did the cartoons feel pain when they get crushed by stuff like anvils? Roger said, iirc, it hurt when Eddie pulled on his ears. But he's okay with getting smashed by objects, falling great distances, and getting electrocuted? Or was he just that great of an actor he could work through the pain?

its probably very brief pain, the more severe the pain, the briefer it actually lasts.
it seems like toons like Roger are malleable so they can accordion up when smashed with anvils but it clearly takes a toll. He can probably spring back up after a few if he's prepped and it's done professionally but sudden bonks do make him woozy and stunned
Most of that is intended for comedy; Eddie yanking on his ears wasn't so of course it hurt.

This. Toonforce only applies if it's funny.

Toon forces doesn't work all the time. Even god-like toons like Popeye and Uncle Grandpa can feel "normal" pain

It's explained in the movie very few things injure a toon, but that most of a toon's immunity real world physics is Comedy based.
"Not the whole time! Only When it was funny! !

This. Thus, cartoons could avoid dying from any conceivable way just by making a gag out of it somehow. This is how the weasels technically died (died laughing) despite the only thing capable of killing a toon being the DIP.
The weasels might be stuck as weasel angels forever now but they still exist.
So I think they can do the same when it comes to pain. It doesn't hurt when it's funny but Eddie just pulling on his ears isn't all that funny so it hurts.

they feel pain but they're invincible as far being crushed.
