Sooo, I've just finished rereading Chuck Austen's Action Comics, and it was... fuck I really don't know what to say.
It was refreshing in some ways, seeing stuff that wouldn't fly today, when comics play it safe (Doomsday casually killing a child, some racism, Preus straight up fucking women to death...). Things like this made the enemies look really horrifying and credible threats.
I didn't even mind Supes being a bit of a bully desu. Some plots like Jack Ryder or the 'love triangle', went nowhere.
Oth, the last two issues, written by 'JD Finn', were fucking awesome. Gog and Doomsday being inspired by Superman and turning good was a great twist. Action 825 is unironically one of my favorite Superman issues.

Mastermen from Multiversity did the Secret Empire plot better than secret empire ever could and thats why it's so great.

. Embracing nazism doesn't make superman some machiavellian super genius, it reduces him, the inherent moral and tactical compromises makes him incapable of achieving anything and ultimately doom him.

He becomes indecisive, insecure, and compromised. Utterly unable to really bring his allies together. He is "the man of iron", but iron cannot survive the stress that steel can.

My favorite single issue ever dealt with superman being pulled into a future with a bunch of other historical figures and finds out that not only is he going to die when he returns to the past, bu that he's actually the third and final clone of superman ( the previous two had given their lives to prevent other disasters) after his third and final death he will be the last superman. superman actually gets really scared but goes back anyways. He stops the crisis and ( its revealed that that was actually the future of another earth) but i still love the superman facing his mortality vibe and the execution of him actually being a little scared but going through it anyway

I think what is the biggest fault for Secret Empire and some other Marvel storylines such as whatever Slott works on is that they would work much better as What If's.

For example, I completely embraced superman being a nazi or a communist because they didn't have to deal with messing with canon and they're going all out with whatever they can come up with such as russian batman or Freedom fighters being rebels against Nazi Supes.

Not really an alternate universe take but the Darwyn Cooke Superman from Justice League - The New Frontier was pretty spiffy. I wouldn't mind an entire mini drawn in that universe even if, sadly, we can't get Cooke to do the actual art for it any longer.

The point of Superman Reborn is that the dating of Diana and New 52 Clark didn't actually happen and that Superbro and Superdad are actually ONE and the same person (ditto Lois, apparently - although I'm not 100% clear on that not having read all of Superwoman), who were split by whomever caused the 10 year gap - being as the 10 year gap (to be explained, presumably in Doomsday Clock) is what caused the Pre-FP universe to become the New 52.

tl;dr - New 52 IS the Pre-FP universe. Clark from way back then is Clark then split, and they have now merged back to Clark NOW. Because of the merger, caused by Superman, the current history has been changed so that Diana and the rest of the JL remembers Lois as Clark's wife, knows Jon, Clark was always working at the DP, Perry was Jonathan's godfather, he and Lois were always married so no dating happened, etc. etc. etc.

If you mean the one from which your image is from, yes. Clark smelling someone baking Brownies in the midwest while high was flawless. Batman being juiced up on Superman's power and wanting to not give them up is the only kind of Batman I really like. I didn't really like the later stories (once they got past to that Saturn Queen Emperors of Earth stuff and most of what came after that just felt like a lot of filler though).

Pic related is the Batman vs Superman I would have preferred.

Superman should kill every single villain on Earth and he should also expose all the corruption in the hier tiers of society. Then he should retire until the powerful become corrupt again and then return to purge them again. He should repeat this. Basically he should be like the Reapers in Mass Effect only he should harvest the powerful instead. It would be nice to have a superpowerful being that strikes every few years to ensure justice is done and but doesn't take power for himself. Normal Superman is too weaksauce and Injustice Superman is too full of himself. I would like middle of the road Superman pls.

Superman should be the most stalwart of heroes, as implacable as a glacier. He should be one who makes as things shudder. He should cultivate an image of power, superiority and invincibility using his great power and natural charisma as a base. People should never consider opposing him to be a feasible course of action. Only then would he be able to ascertain world peace and realise his ideal world.

I know Superman isn't like that and wouldn't want to be like that but I believe he should make a sacrifice and choose to be like that so that he can ensure maximum peace and stability across the globe.

Does anyone have that bit where it's revealed that supes keeps every letter ever written to him: half thanking him and the other half asking where he was, and he keeps them all because he has to to be a good person?
That felt very discworld to me and is the biggest thing that makes supes my favorite. That one detail is so perfect in outlining what kind of character he should be.
