This character was an incredibly desperate attempt by one of the writers to either score progressive points with the mentally disturbed crowd or an effort to normalize the disgusting relationship they're currently a part of. You can't put in the caterpillar orgy character and expect people to not care. It's better to nip it in the bud before it causes damage to the show's brand as a whole.

Guys, I'm trying to get my boyfriend into Steven Universe. He says he hates it because he finds the art style ugly and thinks it's Tumblr-pandering, but has expressed mild interest in trying it and thinks Pearl is sort of cute.

Definitively looks better, however I think SU got it right the first time because A)I'm pretty sure Smoky was purposefully designed to be visually jarring considering that she is a representation of Steven and Amethysts relationship and B)Her battle tactics and weapon wouldn't(In my opinion) be benefited from longer legs.The compact design makes more sense so that she can stay grounded, and not have to worry about tripping when she grapples. Also possible Dashballs too.(Can't remember if she can do that or not). All that being said, its still a good edit.

Well, there's only about 20 episodes left, so I would say 6-7 years from now.

The main problem I have with this fusion is that it's just boring and unimaginative.
If we go back to look all the other fusion is that at least they have something interesting with their design (Opal most of them all imho).
This is just a mishmash of Steven and Amethyst with a third arm and nothing more (but the yoyo weapon is pretty cute).
Such a shame because the bunch of episodes before and the climax of the fight have made me kinda of excited, but then they shoved up this disappointment.

This ties into your previous question but I don't see it that way. The gems aren't humans and they don't always think like them. If a pair or group of gems think the result of a fusion is their best state then they will choose to be always fused like Garnet. Being apart is not ideal as they want to feel whole and they'll be sad that way. They're aliens and stuff like Fluorite is why fusion is banned.

I feel like Fluorite is designed this way to show the kind of degradation that can happen from too many gems being fused. You turn into a big, tired old slug. All the gems are permanently in a state of youth but going overboard with fusion like this leads to an inferior product. Sort of like how incompatible fusions resort in more monstrous forms.
