90s nostalgia is a hell of a drug, avoid it. Apparently fun died the day the 90s died.
>>

I remember some things from before I was 6, but only a handful of things, and those memories are fuzzy at best. That period of fuzziness lasts until I was about 10 actually. As far as I know this is pretty much the norm. People who can remember the majority of their childhood with any clarity are actually the exception.

I gotta say, I've been on the internet since 1946 and I still don't get why people act like after a decade ends, everything that aired during those days is put in a vault never to be seen again.

In fact, I can download Hey Arnold episodes, Tiny Toons stuff, even freaking Skeleton Warriors. Of course, it's not as much fun watching them now that I don't have my friends with me, because they all went to college and got good jobs while I just...you know.

Damn, remember the nineties? They were great, guys.

The world should've ended by now. The 90s were amazing, and this is coming from a guy whose country was at war until 1995. Stuff kinda held out until cca 2007, but after that it all went to shit so fast and so hard it baffles me. It's like every damn day things get a little bit worse for everyone in every metric.

I'm really, really and truly sorry for all of you who weren't born to see and witness the 90s. You have no idea how much was stripped away since then, how much was stolen from you and how deceived you are. All this shit - smartphones, vidya, social media etc. is NOTHING. It is empty and it has hollowed us all out. It is killing us. Technology won't save us or make our lives better, not anymore. They sold the same lie to us when we were kids and lo and behold - this is the end result. There's no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, only Zuckerbergs and totalitarian control. We've been reduced to cattle.

But you know it too. Even if you were born ten years ago you know it. You feel it. You know deep down that something is horribly wrong and that this was not how we were meant to live. May God save us, because otherwise it is my honest belief that our entire species with all its branches is rushing towards extinction.

Whaaaaat?!

The nineties were an AWESOME decade. The Cold War was over, and we built the Internet.

It was BOOM TIMES, good jobs all over the place, everything just hustling and bustling.

The nineties rocked.

Now, the seventies? The seventies sucked just as bad as the last decade or so. Maybe worse.

"Stagflation" Bleargh.
>>
>>93741179
>It's like every damn day things get a little bit worse for everyone in every metric.

It's the whole 'social justice' religion we've got festering in society these days.

An entire generation has been lied to so completely they actually think that 'saving planet earth' is a thing.

Are you fucking serious? It's a goddamn biosphere, not some goddess. When we turned away from space travel was the tipping point, in my opinion.

We've given the next generation nowhere to go.

They're trapped in a Skinner Box.

God help them.

God help.

>>93741224

Same here bro, same here. It's absurd. Even the tiniest trivial bullshit from the era makes me sentimental. It feels like something from an entirely different world.

Honestly for me the 90s ended with this clip from 2002. It's short, no worries. Viva Zwei was an alt music channel. It's fondly remembered by Germans and a huge number of us other folks. I get teary eyed just playing this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9efpFTsgSmc

>>93741448

That was always bullshit. Us humans can never harm the planet as such. Even if the whole nuclear arsenal blows everything up the planet will be fine. Life as a biological thing has endured much, much worse during the history of the planet.

>We've given the next generation nowhere to go.

Indeed. It's like everything turned into a prison. I pity the young and the children. At this point I'm earnestly hoping for some actual intervention of God or Armageddon. It's either that or a slow, painful decline. Life isn't worth living anymore.

>>
>>93741760

No, it's like being a kid watching your parents fight but instead of your parents it's the whole world.
>>
>>93742259
There's no real fighting though; it's basically a complete, one-sided takeover in Europe's case whereas in America it's more of an ever-intensifying cold civil war.

Fun, right?
>>
>>93742390
Its not really a cold war. People are getting killed over political affiliation now
>>
>>93742390

Us Slavs are just staring in shocked awe at the West European clusterfuck. Even I didn't anticipate such utter incompetence and indifference to the hostile takeover. In Croatia's case, we're basically eyeing Poland and Hungary to see what they're going to do first. As an added bonus things here went right wing really fast really hard.

>>93742534

The whole situation is a powder keg. I still barely believe in its reality. It just seems so surreal.

Hell no. People are becoming more aggressive towards each other every day, and you can't even pick a side because both are just as crazy and annoying. And even then, they'll still come after you because people do nothing but look for fights.
Our government has all but given up on pretending to care and just unapologetically treats us like the cattle we are, and people are too busy with petty squabbles to care.
As far as entertainment goes, it only seems to be getting lazier and lazier by the year. Everything nowadays is formulaic and all about "cutting corners".
Journalism on all fronts is dead. The media is nothing but clickbait and political propaganda now.

And the worst of all, 4chan is the worse it has been in years. Not even 2010 was this bad, and that's when MLP first came out and every board was being spammed with brony/anti-brony shit flinging. Way too many people coming here from other places and demanding the already present user base to abide by their world views, cancerous and unfunny memes being posted and welcomed with fanfare. Too many newfags who don't know anything about 4chan, and the site's etiquette. Too many normalfags infecting this place with their blandness and moralfagging. People taking this place way too seriously and acting like we're some sort of great bastion of free speech and freedom fighters when in reality we're just a bunch of nerds who want to discuss things without without the burden of having a name attached to ourselves.

Oh yeah I also forgot to mention the 90s had fuckloads more media made for children which slowly evaporated over time. There were dozens of different shows on every channel, compared to today where any remaining childrens channel has one single show eating up 80% of the time slots.

Also the 90s had lots of movies made for kids and teens. Remember all the Adam Sandler movies? Sure they're horribly immature and he aged like milk but they were appropriate for the specific audience he was aiming for. Ever notice entire genre's of movies don't even get produced anymore? Live action kids movies are dead now. Something like Home Alone would never be made today. Its all Superhero movies or animated movies now.

Gigantic growth spurts in technology too. Every single year the average home computer was twice as powerful as the last one, in some areas they were as much as 10 times more powerful. Every year was amazing. But now growth is slow and some areas have stagnated significantly. Compare the best looking game of 1990 to 1995, then to 2000, then to 2005, then 2010, then 2015. 2010 and 2015 look the same.

Only the moments when I'm completely disconnected from the wider world.

If I'm getting drunk with my friends playing board games I'm happy, but the moment I go outside or online and just see how people are now, I get this weird mixture of depressed and angry.

The majority of people now are as shallow and stupid as they've always been, but they're all on this self-righteous bullshit kick. It feels like we're back in the 80s satanic panic era, but this time its 20-somethings who shop at Urban Outfitters instead of grannies and some vague idea of "justice" instead of God motivating the shit. Everyone is such a fucking puritan these days and they're on a new witch-hunt every 5 minutes.

People have always gotten validation from feeling superior to others, but now they base their "I'm better than you!" shit on puritanical pseudo-morality rather than achievements.

I remember dramas used to be the main genre of film for adults. Like when you went to the movies the trailers would be for something about an adult (Not a 20-something) overcoming real world challenges or one of those dramatic Robin Williams roles or something. Stuff that modern audiences would call "artsy" was 100% mainstream.
Now "adult" movies are just children's films with edgy content and you rarely see anyone older than 35 in a lead role. Grown adults unironically go to watch CG superheroes punch shit for hours on end.

It's a real shame that Capeshit is the genre that prints money these days. Not even because i particularly care about movies, but i feel like it harms Comics significantly. At least at marvel it feels like they care more about their movie properties than any of the comics they publish.

Everyone turning into boring normies is the most unbearable part of growing up for me. I can't relate to anyone my age.
In high school and college there were non-fuck-ups who could actually have fun, but after that it was like everyone was either a commie homeless junkie degenerate or a puritan daddy blogger. I can't find a group of bros like I had in school and I just fuck high school girls all the time because women my age are either disgusting roasties or dull as dishwater.

Pop music is exactly the same as it was 10 years ago. That same dull pop/hip hop fusion. The popular music sound changed so dramatically all the time in the 20th century. Like you can usually pinpoint which 5 or even 2.5 year period a song is from with perfect accuracy because shit changed so much, but now its all the same and has been for years.

Radio stations being bought out by big corporations when the laws changed and Chumbawumba showing the world that hits could be manufactured according to a formula was what started it IMO.

>Radio stations being bought out by big corporations when the laws changed

I'm always so amazed how this isn't as widely known. In the past aspiring artists would go to every radio station in town and hand out free copies of their new record/8track/mixtape and the DJ would listen to it on their own time and maybe play it on the air. People hear it and it spreads from there. But now every radio station is owned by a record company and the entire playlist is already planned out for the whole fucking month. I rarely listen to the radio these days but when I do you can easily tell theres one popular artist whos new CD they're trying to promote and their big new song plays every other song, sometimes twice in a row after a commercial break.

Remember when people would call in ask request a song they liked? That shit doesn't happen anymore, any callers are fake viral marketing in an attempt to whip up interest for whatever new engineered music they created. Hell, remember when Radio station did contests and people would put bumper stickers of their favorite station on their car trying to win prizes? I haven't seen a bumper sticker for a radio station in over 10 years.

People will say "But now you can put your music on the internet so why does it matter?" Because the DJ was the curator whos music would be listened to by thousands, that level of a signal boost was immense for someone trying to make it. Its completely impossible to be noticed today.
>>

I think I had a psychotic break or whatever the fuck it should be called back in February. There's a lot of missing time and unaccounted for interactions and I can't shake this suspicion that people are planning something behind my back. Everyone who still talks to me says I'm exaggerating things. That I'm under a lot of stress and should probably spend more time outside or finding a new hobby to stay productive, you know, that whole speech. But a few days I found myself ranting, sort of screaming in a public bathroom with no memory of how I got there. Which doesn't seem to be a huge issue for people if you remain calm when the security guard arrives and you're dressed nice. Getting really worried, though.

2007-2010 was at least funny though. I can't believe I've gotten to the point where I miss dubs threads.

I blame a lot of the issues on lazy moderation. They've let /pol/ shit up every board, and let /pol/ become /x/. It's insufferable.

the funny thing is that when pol was first re-introduced moot claimed he would delete the board of they got too unruley. Now theyre worse than they ever were in any previous incarnation, even go so far as to organize attacks on other groups and the board still isn't shut down. Whats funny is racism is technically against the rules on 4chan. Rule 3 is no racism outside of /b/, but now people unironically blame blacks and jews for every single issue ever made.

Only 92 onwards. I remember when Fox Kids went from Saturday mornings to weekday afternoons. Wish I had found out about Kids' WB earlier than when Pokemon moved from TBS weekday mornings. Hated Foxbox, because no more Digimon, and Power Rangers moved to ABC Kids, though they'd play an hour of it after noon, so hey an extended hour. Thankfully Kids' WB was doing pretty great, but then shit happened and 4kids took their Sonic X reruns and shat all over Saturday morning.

RIP Vortexx, not only did you replace 4kids's Toonzai, you gave kids one last glimpse of how Saturday mornings use to be.

I was always interested in the big picture, and as mentioned Croatia was involved in a total war during the 1991 - 1995 perior. I lived through that. Also, my parents divorced smack middle into the thing. To merely say I miss being a kid is false. I should in fact hate the 90s judging from my experiences, but the whole decade was so saturated by general optimism and all things good that it's impossible to hate. It was the last time everything felt real and normal.

>>93748315

>wishing he could have a loli housewife around to cook him meals and clean his clothes.

Are you implying you are above such domestic happiness fantasies? Shit bro, at this point in my life only absurd and impossible fantasies like that give me a reason to live. I work 50 hour weeks at a factory, illegally, for unlivable wages under a veritable sadist of a boss. I starve for most of the month, all of my friends either went full normie or full junkie, my mother lost her job, I have no prospects and no dreams and somehow shit just keeps getting worse. I'm being courted by a 36 year old ex-roastie whose expiration date has come and a nice but mentally unstable 26 year old coworker with self-mutilation scars. They somehow think I could "save" them and I go through days navigating a minefield, trying to be polite and friendly but romantically unavailable. My older childless uncle is in deep depression and constantly wants me around, and I can't deal with his shit because i'm barely able to deal with my shit.

Hate me all you want. I even regard those silly arguments as happy memories. I push through life on pure willpower and inner emptiness. Everything has been taken from me. At least I can dream and I tell myself "It's okay, this too will pass. If not you can always kill yourself." This consolation of death is the greatest supporter of life.

Yeah I do love the 90s but at the same time its so much easier to find some sort of entertainment these days. I could put the entire 8-16 bit library of console games on a flash drive and have literally thousands of different games to choose from on almost any computer in the world. Multiple lifetimes worth of television, movies, and music at my fingertips to be consumed at a moment's notice.

When I was a kid I had soooooo many long periods of downtime when there was nothing on TV, already did everything I could legally do outside as a child a thousand times, and only a couple of videogames I had gotten bored of over a year ago. I think the big thing I loved about the 90s was being amazed at how much cool new stuff was always being made. I don't even see kids lining up at the game demo kiosks in stores anymore. When I was a kid there could be a small gaggle of kids learning to take turns whenever a new game came out. When F-Zero came out there must have been at least 2 dozen kids at Walmart crowded around a TV being blown away.

Nha, moot was a turbo faggot about this whole ordeal, first he invited the ENTIRE fucking site with an official meta-thread linked to every single fucking upper page on the site that invited everyone to spam non-stop on /pol/, removed all captcha and anti-bot securities, didn't give anything close to an answer why he did so for an ENTIRE FUCKING MONTH as the place was spammed into oblivion and he had the audacity to call it a ''joke'' when he finally realized he couldn't stay silent forever, only to jump boat not too long after doing one of the most hypocritical things I've seen the faggot do: Turn is goodbye into a massive, 8h long attention whoring camshow, the very things he claimed for YEARS were total cancer for the site and that these threads were to be banned on sight.

Also moot personally had nothing against /pol/, but he particularly despised the faggots who constantly spammed /qa/ with request to delete /pol/ over every single stupidity imaginable, every single fucking day to the point moot eventually put down the board because it would be the same peoples who would come days after days after days, repeating the exact same disproven bullshit arguments as before, again and again and again and againd and etc...

To be honest, this whole ordeal happened at about the same time as GG (which would you believe was actively censored on 4chan! Any kind of post with any reference to that media clusterfuck was instantly deleted and/or had words changed without the consent of the poster, which brought the amusing result that peoples just started to use different term that meant the exact same thing instead, /pol/harbor came not too long after that.

Hell, given Gawkers media ethical practices, I wouldn't be surprised if briding moot was something they would entail, especially since this whole clusterfuck started because of collusion.

Oldfag here.

I'm over 50. What you're feeling?

That's the Cold War.

North Korea can hit California with a nuke? WEAK. For my entire childhood, the literal Apocalypse was fifteen minutes away.

All day, every day.

There's a reason why President Reagan is so revered. He made that stop.

Then, the limp-wristed politicians that came after him let it all creep back into horrible again.

So, if you're wondering why it all sucks right now? Look no further than the eco-wacky religion, multi-culturalism, political correctness, and social justice.

While those self-absorbed Western urges distracted us, the enemies of everything we believe in have gotten their feet under them again, and now we're right back to existential threats in all directions.

Time to grow a pair, or go extinct.

What's it going to be?

Sound better than the modern alternative, an ever growing population of extremely ignorant, bien-pensant nu-communists and multi-cultist so far up their own asses they unironically believes that [true] communism(tm) was never tried before and that if every single country that espoused these ideals didn't work is simply because they didn't apply it correctly, somehow! (God forbid it is because communism inherently require an intellectual elite to run things, which kind of defeat the purpose of the entire class-war thing that is the base of communism!) With peoples in position of influence eagerly espousing ideals which goes in total contradiction with the populace they represent, going as far as being prideful about it as they call it ''progress'', toward which end? Who know, but they sure don't.

Sorry Junior, but MY old-faggotry doesn't go back that far.

I can say with certainty, that pretty much everything you've ever heard about 'McCarthy-ism' is mostly lies and exaggerrations, and not nearly as poisonous or pervasive as the current SJW tactics of doxxing.

That shit is pure societal poison. You live in a world so awash in wretchedly toxic behavior that you think it's normal to behave like that.

Grow a pair, or go under the tide.

Parents and my siblings are my only reason for living right now, I have no acomplishments.
>>
>>93751259
At least during the Cold War it was only hippies supporting the Communists. Now you've got Westerners begging to be replaced by Africans and Muslims because they've been taught to hate themselves for years by the media.
In the Cold War it was us against them. Today I feel like it's me and a tiny minority of sane people against literally everyone else.
You could say "Fuck the commies" when they tried shit in Cuba, but I can't say "Fuck the Muslims" when they literally rape and murder our children without my own people turning on me.

The oil only one of the aspects, there are many influences over these who'd would have hugely profited from the fall of Iraq and the resulting increase in oil-price coupled with the entire economy of the country in shambles which make repossession by foreigners a farce. Because in the end, a company asset is worth just as much before and after the war, so whoever take possession of the place in the war scare (when the economy in shambles and peoples are willing to sell their soul for a loaf of bread) get a mad load of dosh in pure profit. The companies that managed the oilfield probably saw their value plummet like a flying cargo plane with loose cargo.

They did the exact same thing with Ukraine, the moment their credit scores fell because of the whole revolutionary clusterfuck, Mosanto was already waiting at the door step with proposal to buy the farms of the poor, down stricken Ukrainian farmers at a incredible price ( for their crashing economies, that is). And we are not talking of a small monetary transaction, I mean something above the 10 billion in term of price. Seem really sketchy no? Like if your shop was broken into and there this mafioso who comes out of the alley with your safe and say ''hey there, I just caught a thief trying to run away with it, would be a shame if it had happened, eh? Now now, I feel generous, so how about you pay me to acce...er I mean protect your safe and I'll keep it ''safe'' from others, capiche?''

Kid, the theater have been running for far longer than you've been watching it. Bush was only a step in the stairway, an useful idiot and nothing more (bush junior always has been recognized as a rather dull minded man, probably only went into politics because of daddy contacts in the establishment whom needed a useful idiot, so who's better than the son of a previous president? It's weird how nowadays we treat politicians as if they were royalties).

Hell, did you knew that the first true act of terrorism by the modern definition wasn't done by Muslims, but by Zionist Jews? Kind David Hotel, against the very brits which made modern Israel a possibility.

I still believe that Alex Bisonette was actually a recent convert and its the reason why they hid that story under the rug rather than scream about it on the rooftop because honestly, a genuine terrorist event perpetrated by a genuine WHITE person? We would have never heard the end of it had it been the case, with medias screaming in unison how it is the fault of western society or some sensational bollocks.

Because honestly if peoples are actually starting to get converted in greater numbers then the situation is a hella lot worse than first believed. Especially if the convert are from one of the more extreme/literal branches of Islam, which tend to bring their sectarian conflict with them as they immigrate.

The 90s were a nice era. Up until the bush admin really kicked into gear around 2003ish things had been looking up in general.
/co/-wise we had the Batman and Superman animated series and the first Justice League cartoon. It was a time when transformers wasnt absolute garbage (not that I watched it much, just never was my style really). Shitty shows like Captain Planet and the original Scooby Doo cartoons were shoved out to make way on Cartoon Network for things like early Toonami and later Adult Swim

remember when the .com bubble was a thing and you could become a millionaire on a TV show?

the late 90's looked like shit was rockin'.

those of us who had some basic understanding of computers knew y2k was bullshit and only affected certain systems. on the consumer front it was a bid to get people off windows 3.1 and onto newer computers. Namely because the year would get changed to a hexadecimal value.

Eh most people on the ground knew that the dot com thing was going to bust. It was just the sudden onslaught of a new business platform. Some businesses were going to be wildly successful and others were not. Note that almost none of those early businesses are still around these days? Because most of them were capitalizing on the abject lack of regulations or even business standardization of methods. It was an era when fricken Napster wasnt technically against the law, they had to make laws to charge Napster with breaking.

Actually, the total opposite happened to me with my leftist and feminist sister

She started to rage against me because I dared speak something not favorable about Muslims (more precisely: The Sunni prevalence for violence due to their interpretation of the Quran), only to admit afterward that the sole reason she did so is because she took it personally, because she has a friend who is a man of Arabian descent and that since peoples who ''speak about Muslims tend to speak of it derogatorily/as if they were a race'' then it was warrantable ground to blow a fuse on me.

So basically she is the ''racist'' one as she believe that Islam is somehow related to race in a way, at least that she see Arabs as inherently Muslims.

...And you want to know the worst about it?

The friend in question isn't Arabian, he is a Egyptian Coptic christian...

Honestly I wanted to cry, I can't tell wether it would have been of sadness or laughter.

>>
>>93752908
The 90's as a whole were just an unbridled period of optimism in the West and especially the US. The Cold War was over, the economy was growing rapidly, there weren't any major wars after the first couple of years, technology was exploding, entertainment as a whole was rapidly changing, and by the end of the decade racial relations had improved so much that many said we were approaching a "post-racial society". Compare that shit to today and the only thing that's held true is technological development and the Cold War being over, but now so long ago that it's not a matter of pride that the world's not on the constant verge of blowing itself up.

>The left

I hate how neo-liberal democrats and single-issue voters have been termed 'the left' now.
>>
The thing to remember about SJWs, is that they were always here, its not some new phenomenon. Its just that back in the 90s, the people saying that things should be banned because they don't like it were the bible thumpers telling us that Pokemon and Magic the gathering are Satanic. And just because someone is a liberal or whatever doesn't mean they are an SJW.

Social Justice has always been a western thing ever since Christianity, because its a cornerstone of Christian thought. So some people getting the wrong idea and deciding to legislate morality at the expense of freedom has always been a thing since Christianity was adopted, even if many individuals who think like that, like le SJWs of today, aren't particularly christian. In that senxe I think the term 'SJW' can apply to a lot of people that aren't commonly labeled as such, like certain individuals who unironically use the term 'degeneracy'.

You're trying to redefine SJW to mean Authoritarian, which isn't necessarily wrong, it's just that there's already a word for it and that word is Authoritarian. SJW specifically refers to a left wing brand of it but you're absolutely right that the same shit is peddled on both sides of the aisle. Especially now that both sides have ramped it up and are presenting the most authoritarian possible side of themselves.

I've realized that most comics, cartoons, and videos are pure shit and not worth the time spend doing them, let alone worth the money to spend on them. So I've learned to be picky and enjoy only really good stuff and with friends and family.
