So what's your favorite story so far?

I think I'm gonna have to go with Nashville, Tennessee since that's the chapter that made me think "this is going to be good," with the weird scavenger hunt and everything.

"What are nanos?" for videos since it has the best JUICE dialogue and it gave us some backstory.
>>
>>93725640
That conversation with Nancy implies that there aren't any kids around so I'm assuming everyone stops aging once they reach adulthood.

It's not like they could kill kids/have kids die because of nanos, but it's still confusing what determines when someone stops aging. Technically, everyone's minds should stop aging too.
>>
>>93725714
I liked Lori's story the most
>>
>>93725784
>it's still confusing what determines when someone stops aging
not really. growing up and old age are two different processes. to prevent old age all it really comes down to is make it so your telemeres don't get shortened each time your cells split while also ensuring these cells that can now split without limit don't turn cancerous. its what's referred to as the hayflick limit.

https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2014/6/3/5772796/nba-y2k-series-finale-the-death-of-basketball

the NBA dies, as the league is flooded with year after year of absolutely garbage players. They can barely dribble, much less shoot. At first, things keep going like normal. But then the actually good players begin to retire, and there's just more trash taking their place. Soon, guys who would've been 7th or 8th men on any team are now coveted superstars. Eventually, the last non-terrible player retires, and then the league is lost. Games go into quadruple overtime with the score tied at 0-0. It is like watching your grandmother die of Alzheimers.

https://www.sbnation.com/2015/4/28/8500333/nba-y2k-ten-years-to-midnight

The inverse - drafts of Ubermenches join the league, instead. The mere mortals are cast aside - Isaiah Thomas and Russel Westbrook find themselves unable to land a job. LeBron James is benched, and retires without even entering the hall of fame. Basketball is at last perfect, played entirely by identical Supermen.

And then there's the whole "Tim Tebow's Canadian Football Adventures" thing, which this 17776 thing is pretty clearly a sequel to.

I mean, every new piece of media can be related to any old piece of media. No one is saying that this is completely unoriginal for reminding them of something, especially since people are comparing JUICE to Dave Strider, a character that was very popular in the past.

If anything, I see these comparisons as a compliment to the newer work, 17776.

This seems really interesting but I'm already fucking bent out of shape over how popular it is and the disgusting "fandom" that's already forming. Can't anything good just stay obscure? It makes it really hard to fulfill my need to always be a contrarian faggot.
>>
>>93736439
I think 17776 is the most palatable of his works since the football aspect is really only a flavoring to this universe. Most of the story up to this point deals with existentialism, but it's rooted in sports journalism surrounding how far we as a species are willing to go for sports entertainment.

See the first story for example, the Ice Bowl.
>>
>>93736480
If good things remain obscure whats the point of publishing media? You can argue media fans have been more retarded than ever but it shouldnt stop good writers from being creative. Specially now untalented people like Amy Schummer get spot between comedians, for example.
>>
>>93736480
He's too well known for it to ever have stayed obscure. What you mean is that you wish it hasn't traveled out of sports-focused circles.

It's short enough though that people will get bored like a month from now anyway and it won't really have a fandom.
>>
>>93736480
It immediately attracted Homestuck and tumblr fans is why. They've been sharpened into a force of awfulness over these past few years. Every Dave a black man with weird hair, every Karkat a hobbit, every Rose fifteen feet tall with hair everywhere.

Well that's just the paradox I suppose. Is it better for something to go out at its peak even if it does leave fans desperate for more (a la Spectacular Spider-man) or is it better for a show to achieve zombie status, an empty husk propped up only by the attention of normies (many examples, Simpsons and FOP come to mind)?

I know the obvious answer is "just let the series come to a natural conclusion, no further than it needs to", but we all know that that's unlikely, especially when it comes to something like this.

Jon Bois is a legend. I think the weird experiments with the millenia long football games were what he thought of first and then he built the story around it. Breaking Madden had dozens of experiments on football already, and his google earth knowledge he used in Pretty Good allows him to work on all the videos. He had even already written imaginary stuff with the Tim Tebow chronicles. Every piece he needed to make this, he had already done.

just finished archiving, pretty damn interesting. also looked through his pretty good series. the takeaway is that I imagine after this spurt of fame from a new audience, he's just gonna' go back to doing his usual stuff for his regular 'fans'.

which is kinda' sad because he definitely has a winning formula for a generation all too eager to shower him in money and (if history repeats when these type of people latch on) exponential popularity, I can understand why people would associate it with some of andrew's work, they're pretty similar in tone, and the format of this work just highlights that.

a shame it was all prebuilt and has a defined end. or actually, maybe that's a blessing.

Oh, I have an idea. The real problem, the thing that doomed HS 1.0, isn't popularity, it's popularity with Tumblr. Ergo, Homestuck 3.0 should include a strong repellent for the Tumblrites, something they would find morally and/or aesthetically unacceptable. Now, let's just think about the options.
>>
>>93738045
This isn't a bad thing.
>>
>>93744388
The very first line should be "I hate black people"

It's never brought up again and there are black characters later and the character who said that likes them

Wait, so it's a Homestuck thing? Is that why it exploded in popularity and already has people attempting to merge their egos with it?
>>
>>93744415
>>93744388
No, they'll quickly figure out your ploy. Besides, it isn't personal enough to Tumblr's core fandom-ruining audience, which is majority white. How about something like this: a random thing a character does very early in the story leads to women losing the right to vote and every character, male or female, treats it as obviously a good thing. Also, one of the protagonists starts out as trans but is quickly cured of it by magic and is ecstatic about it.
>>
>>93740484
That's the question I have. Are many nerds in the US casual American Football fans? Maybe they're the writer's intended audience. Here in Europe soccer is popular even with Asimov-loving theoretical physics majors, but they usually aren't hardcore fans and are more likely to spend their free time playing FIFA than reading a soccer column.

The most football you need to understand for this comic is for the last update about how the NFL keeps adding rules. That kind of insider baseball (sorry, some Americanisms are hard to shake) is more about the politics of running a sports league and I'm sure FIFA or whatever has similar problems.

For the rest, the only real fact you need to know is football is about getting the ball to the end zone corresponding to your team. And that's basically every other sport.

Look, I love Jon Bois, but nothing, and I mean NOTHING, will ever top Breaking Madden - I Open Up My Wallet And It's Full Of Blood.

>A year ago, we played more or less the exact same game. The Seahawks were the monster team, and the Broncos were the pathetic baby team. Madden proved its worth as a digital prophet when, days later, the real-life Seahawks ended up bulldozing the Broncos and assembling one of the most one-sided routs in NFL history.

>Madden also begged, in no uncertain terms, to end that nightmarish experiment. About 13 minutes into the game, the Seahawks led, 366-0. Suddenly, despite the fact that I had disabled all penalties, an official jogged onscreen and called a penalty of some sort. What did he call? I didn't understand.

>I went to the replay. All the players were gone. Amidst the blanket of snow, I noticed something. It was placed right in the middle of the field on the 50-yard line.

>I zoomed in.

>I have played lots and lots and lots of Madden, and I have tried to coax every glitch out of it in every way I know how. This is a thing I had never seen before, and have not seen since: a half-Seahawk, half-Broncos fetus, with half a face, with no lower appendages, with a pair of leg-like things sprouting from its head.

>This is how Madden talks. This is how it shrieks. I opted for mercy that day, and granted a one-year reprieve.

>That reprieve ends today. I want a thousand points in a game.

bretty gud, look forward to seeing where the conflict in the story will come from but i'm totally content to be fed goofy football anecdotes for however long this work goes for

juice superficially invites homestuck comparisons but i think the multimedia nature of the works and the shared comic exaggeration of game elements really do tie the two together

This is the future, lunchables in the here and now times still exist. And they're stupidly overpriced.
>>
It even has the intermissions, awooo this is great
>>
>>93773442
fuck you lunchables were nice

Get the generic ones, they're like 75 cents here and have the same amount of meat circles and cheese squares, and taste about the same.

Well, that's dissatisfying. I've always held humans to be a bit more curious then that.

So, are animals still a thing? Or are they all immortal too?
>>
>>93773578
JadeTav in general was weird as fuck. Is it like people just identifying with Tavros and his pathetic nature?
>>
>Intermission
So it's confirmed Bois knows what Homestuck is and is actively emulating it.
>>
>>93773754
his thing got probably half a million views in the short time it's existed and a bunch of homestuck fans obsessing over it, do you not think he wouldn't be at least somewhat aware of it? He's evidently not an idiot.

it really depends on who's telling the myth. also, the ancient greeks had different conceptions of consent than we tend to have, so whether or not any given sexual encounter was rape can be ambiguous sometimes (or even when it isn't, some translators will sweep less savory story elements under the rug if they care less about accuracy than propriety or fellating the greek empire without having to confront differences in values, etc.).

Ten makes a comment that humans have settled and lost the push that younger generations would after seeing older ones, but why hasn't artificial intelligence taken that space? Clearly they know technology can advance that far, with people apparently actively listening in on the satellites

Hunter S. Thompson started out as a sports columnist.

do humans do other recreational things besides football? d o they ever invent working waifus? [/spoiler[

ngl, i was also wondering why the fuck in this future there was nothing about waifus becoming real

idc what jon bois says, we would absolutely try our best to make cat girls and anime androids real.
>>
>>93775799
I like to imagine they'd also have really ridiculous games of capture the flag or treasure hunts like with the autographed football story.

God dammit, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO END ON THE 15TH? I WANT MORE OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE AND TRASH FOOTBALL DAMMIT.

I thought it was comforting. It means what we have now is what people have and will always like, rather than constantly having more and more to progress towards. I'm far happier knowing society achieved the most possible, rather than dying knowing there was far more.
