Ok since all the other damn threads are bait threads let's discuss the movie

Just got back from watching it, it's extremely good.

>all those Vulture scenes
>if I knew him he would be dead

Fucking nice
>>
Pretty much the best after credits sequence.
>>
>>93712591
Lizard prison scene done right
>>
>>93712591
> When he gets to Liz house and Toomes opens because he's her dad

For real I thought that he was going to kidnap her or some shit because they foreshadowed him realizing Spider-Man was in high school, but holy shit I didn't see that coming
>>
>>93712591
When all the rubble is on Pete and he's crying out that got me a little bit. Loved the man in the chair stuff, Vulture was amazing.
>>
>>93712730
I could actually feel the tension in that scene
>>
>>93712730
shit, another thing from TASM this did better
>>
It was good but no fucking way in hell is it 94% fresh good. Just like Wonderwoman I suspect massive employee vote up ratings.
>>
>>93712911
>TASM this did better
>ASM doing anything better

No.
>>
>>93713065
He means that this movie did that concept better
>>
To hell with Michelle, I want Mary Jane
>>
It's the best Spider-Man movie after 2. I can't possibly understand why so many people here are trashing it after liking hot garbage like Civil War (shakey cam and quips during every action scene) or Guardians of the Galaxy.
>>
SM2>Homecoming>SM1>SM3>ASM1>ASM2
>>
>>93713337
This is objectively the only correct ranking.
>>
>>93712591
This is literally the perfect Spider-Man movie. I tried thinking of something objectively wrong with it, and I can't. It is so fucking good.
>>
>>93713392
The soundtrack was generic MCU shit
>>
>>93713337
This, but SM2=Homecoming

You think Keaton will come back for another go? I really do want the Sinister Six made reality. If we have to do repeats, Im fine with Otto and Rhino being given another shot. Mysterio is a must though
>>
>>93713406
I'll give you that, but that original spidey theme at the beginning was good shit
>>
>>93713019
Go by the average rating section, not the tomatometer for what you are referring to.
>>
>>93713019
The percent on Rotten Tomatoes just meant that 94% of the reviews were positive reviews, not a rating out of 100.
>>
>>93713444
Will the Sinister Stick become the Rogues to Peter's Flash?

Every red quipster needs an honorable villain with a furry collar.

The criticism on this board can be condensed to "REEEE NIGGER MARY JANE" "WHY DOES MARVEL HAVE A NIGGER FUCKING AGENDA" or "THIS ISNT A 94% MOVIE REEEE". That's literally all I've seen since this movie came out. I like coming to /co/ because people are generally level headed here, but this movie has sent people into a tizzy.
>>
No, because The Rogues are just trying to make a buck while The Sinister Six fucking hate his guts and want Peter dead. Scorpion is already on board, Toomes might later resent Peter
>>
Michelle was the worst thing in this fucking movie. A complete cunt with shit acting. It gives me the impression they tried to make her into a Daria-esque character but failed miserably.
>>
>>93713645
meant to quote >>93713554
>>
>>93712730
Man, the theatre was in an uproar.

It was a crystallization of the themes of Spider-man stories being a conflict between Peter and Spider-man's responsibilities.

I thought she was funny. I liked when she flipped Peter off. It's obvious she's going to grow as a character throughout the movies.
>>
>>93713679
If they wanted to make Mary Jane black, they should've chosen her and her story arc. Would've been a more interesting take on the character than the crap we got.
>>
>>93713690

That's not how it works you fucking retard. The movie could have been a 6.9 all across the table and still managed that score. I personally wouldn't call it a 7.7 either, but still.
>>
>>93713690

I love both movies, but look at what you just typed and tell me you honestly think that's true.

Toomes just wanted to make a buck too. He was trying to provide for his family. Even at the end he clearly doesn't personally hate Peter.
>>
>>93714023
Idg why people didn't complain about Kirsten Dunst's MJ. She treated Peter even worse than the Homecoming one did, and the Homecoming one is just joking 99% of the time.
>>
>>93713782
Very unlikely. I think the Shocker we got in SM:HC is as close as we'll ever get. They even make fun of the name and costumes in general in the movie.

And even though it was a genuine surprise, they did a good job in retrospect of foreshadowing it. Toomes was constantly talking about his family. I can't remember if he specifically mentioned a daughter, but I know he said he had a kid several times.
>>
>>93714208
kirsten dunst's mj wasnt glamourous or flirtious party girl and never grew into a more interesting person or love interest. she was pretty bland and pretty mean for no reason. If anything, they'll grow this michelle character over the course of the trilogy if shes the new mj, and I dont see why they wouldnt make her likeable considering homecoming did pretty damn well regardless of how salty people on this board are
>>
"I know what a girl sounds like"
"I'M A BOY"
>>
>>93713718
This is a more reasonable scale, yes. Holland could have afforded to be a lot more insecure out of the Spidey Suit and thrown down a lot more, though.
>>
>>93712591
I do have one minor complaint
Sometimes this shit gets too self-referential
Are girls seriously going to keep playing Fuck, Marry, Kill with the Avengers especially since it's been a while since they did anything THAT massive

They did address my concern about showing a video staring a fugitive and that was pretty awesome
I totally thought they would just skim over that
>>
>>93714278
Uh...you think that if super heroes appeared in real life, they wouldn't be all everyone talked about 99% of the time, especially teens? That's pretty realistic
>>
>>93714267
his reaction when he was under the rubble was great, though. I was surprised that they actually let him portray him so out of it, it felt real. it was a nice change. really reminds you of how bad garfields portrayal was

I liked the new MJ but it was really obvious who she was from the very start. They dedicated way too much time to her for it to be subtle.
Which, yeah, Spider-Man films don't have to be subtle, but I seriously cannot believe Keaton said the words "you go around with that glove calling yourself... the SHOCKER."

Like seriously dude
Please

That's not even funny like IT'S YOU WHO'S OUT GOBBY, it's just bad writing
There was no part where Peter goes "what're you some kinda Vulture?" so why was there one for Shocker?

i'm surprised that Evans appeared for that much. that was a nice "this is a shared universe" touch that you would expect in a comic.
>>
I really like the movie, both main character and main villain played each other well, the humour was better than most of MCU, no out of place humour like Doctor Strange.

I do wish the action could've been better though, it was decent but weak compare to Raimi's trilogy

I don't even like the ASM films, and I thought those had better action scenes than this one.
>>
>>93714301
Right after the first Avengers thing sure
But it's been a while
If they was just talking about how cool Spiderman was and how no one knew who he was that would have been more believable
>>
>>93714366

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5yJatEsA8Q
>>
>>93714344

Of course not, since Agent Venom is actually a well developed and interesting character who would make a good movie, and Sony is in charge of the Venom movie so it's going to be dogshit, so they will not go with the good option and just make it about Eddie Brock again since that's the obvious option.
>>
>>93714415
The action scenes were the only thing that the Amazing Spider-Man movies really did right.
>>
>>93712734

that was some good acting and reminds you he's only 15, but also necessary to make him saving himself seem more badass
>>
So seriously, why couldnt spiderman punch. Most other MCU heros can fight. What is Disneys deal?

Just got out the film. Is Zendaya supposed to be a composite of Michele & MJ? well liz was before gwen stacy and then mary jane is the final objective.
i'm going to guess that's what they're aiming for. so i don't think she'll appear again. played off more like a hs crush than all time true love. which i think is better, than trying to marry them off since 16 years old.

if they wait until college to bring in mj, that would be more interesting.

>>93714023
i got to say i don't get the hate, she was fine and she's not mary jane. i think it's a place holder. she didn't even have a big role. she wasn't a cunt, she was being an edgy kid and everyone knew she was harmless and playing around. that's why they where her friends and they chose her as team leader.

>>93714782
Yes. The last third of the movie is Peter using his homemade suit.
>>
>>93714803
They want to set the sequels in Peter's junior and senior years. Setting it in 2020 means that the timeline isn't strained by having each movie set two years apart - it wouldn't make sense for Peter to be in high school for so long. Setting it in the future allows for them to do modern references to future movies and pop culture references that are relevant to whatever year the next movies come out in and not being stuck in 2017 and 2018.

I'm confused about that Miles reference
>Spider-Man/Peter Parker/Tom Holland can be the face of the MCU for years

>Killing off Peter would not go over well with family audiences, especially young kids
How are they going to include him in the MCU?

I went with incredibly low expectations and left pleasantly surprised.
First half/2 thirds are the same Marvel schtick, it's competent and fun but it could be much better, there's too many quips, villain is underdeveloped, movie is too light, etc... The usual 6/10
And then the nigga lost the costume.
And then the movie decided it wanted to be good.
And then we had stakes and drama and a legit good twist that was not only good because of the surprise, but also because it served to develop two characters at once.
And then there's that wonderfully executed prom scene.
And then there's that 10/10 scene with him getting out of the rubble, which I'm surprised anti-DC drones aren't complaining that it's too dark.
And then holy shit a final fight where the hero is out of his element and pushed to his limits and there's no time for quips it's because serious business? Holy shit is this a Marvel movie where the third act is the strongest? What the fuck is going on?
7.5/10 pretty solid shit.
Raimi is still king, new MJ is the worst fucking character, like holy shit you cannot have an uglier basic personality. Still pissed that Uncle Ben is barely fucking mentioned and has been replaced by Stark, a bit weirded out by how Iron Man-ish the spiderman costume is.

Also, Low key funniest moments?
>Dude, I got ice cream here
>anything related to the school news

Finally, I just want to say that I honestly love the Peter-Vulture relationship of mutual respect and hatred, it's a sad thing that it'll never be followed up because this is mahvel studios and continuity isn't as solid as you want it to be.

Iron Man is 2008. IM2 is like 6 months later which takes place over a single week. Thor and Hulk happen the same week as IM2 (Thor in the middle, Hulk towards the end). Cap is unfrozen after IM2, but still within months of IM2. Avengers takes place shortly after Cap is unfrozen which could roughly be late 2008/early2009.

8 years pass bringing us up Civil War last year, 2 months after that is Spidey Homecoming.

While the movies on/off on being in "real time", only the TV shows seem to actually try to keep up with it the most.

Since we don't exactly know when Doc Strange takes place, one could believe Doc Strange is the latest in the time stream movie-wise (taking place after Homecoming) while SHIELD is the latest in the time stream overall.

why would any of them have their own movies? it's just sony not owning any character's and thinking they can have their own spider-universe, to compete with the entire marvel roster. but it doesn't work because none of them are important in that level. like why would you want to watch a silver sable movie? it would just be a generic milla jovovich/scarlet johansson girl action movie. it just screams failure.

people really want a venom movie, and i don't get it. if there's no spider-man connection it might be terrible. it would be some random powered guy with a symbioses. for all sony cares it could be infamous video game adaption.

honestly how i'd do mysterio is to make him a guy who's obsessed with putting on a good show, and make his actions a meta commentary of superhero movies in general and then subvert the shit out of them by having mysterio set things up to make himself the good guy in various scenarios.

it'd a) do the whole "spidey hunted by the cops" thing i love, b) allow the movie to break out of the template consciously, and c) i kind of want mysterio to just be a dude who doesn't particularly hate spidey but wants to make something cool (if soulless) happen. the relationships peter develops in the film are the missing element in mysterio's plot, and the climax of the movie is just him and spidey talking it out.

they basically just get money for letting marvel use their own character because they won't release the rights.

so they can basically make free money if they sit back and let marvel take over. but that pasqual cunt is too egotistical to let it happen. (i read the emails it was cringe as fuck)

they're being greedy as fuck thinking they can profit without marvel by doing their own movies, because they think they're "competent" even though their movies fail.

We already have phasing through feet of steel level alien tech.

Have some crazy special effects master have stuff like 3d holograms, maybe something interfacing straight with targets' neural synapses to make them see stuff that ain't there, plus maybe give him some limited teleportation, and then for the finale, solid light constructs.
>>
>>93716038

I was pleasantly surprised that they got all the Iron Man suit shit out of the way before the finale, I assumed he would only be meeting Tony out of his suit and then he'd suit-up to save the day at the end thus stealing Peter's thunder

The whole suit sentiment kinda rung hollow to me.

I genuinely got emotional during the lifting scene, but at the end of the day it doesn't work as well because Peter has super strength and speed and wall crawling (and whatever other Spider powers they decide to make canon to MCU) without the suit. Like that sort of plot/theme makes sense for Cap showing that he already is Cap even without the muscles, or for Tony to show that he's still able to be a superhero even without his suit, but for Peter he was already a hero without the suit. It's not like he's portrayed as non-heroic in the film. He fucked up sure but it's not like that was a problem caused by the suit you could argue that access to the Tech was enabling him but that's still a problem of his innate recklessness. The "you don't need a suit to be a superhero" is kinda hollow when 1) you already were for 6+months and 2) you're powers aren't tied to it 3) you get it back like a reward.
It just kinda felt like "You need to include the lifting thing it's so Spider-man!". If anything the real Spider-man moment to me was him walking out of Prom. That's real Peter right there he will let his personal life go to shit to save people.

Basically I'm not sure what it was trying to say
>You don't need it to be a hero
Okay but we knew that, and it's kinda weird if Pete didn't

>You gotta do things on your own
He already did, and it's not like lifting the thing would have been helped by the suit. You can say "well it would have called Iron-man and he would have saved him etc.." but didn't Tony get mad at him exactly for overstepping

his illusions can just be from tech or whatever, it's all basically magic anyway and they can just say he's the best movie tech in the world or some shit.

but to answer your question: he wouldn't fight peter. it'd all be illusions. in fact, i think it'd be kind of cool to have no violence involving one human and another in the entire movie. OR, maybe that's what mysterio is explicitly trying to avoid (because he's not really a bad guy for the purposes of this idea), but he fucks up and peter has to save his bacon.

i guess my point is that mysterio could make for a really interesting/different kind of superhero movie because of his powers and his motivations.

Would Vulture really Join? That last bit with him in Homecoming makes it seem like he has no quarrel with Peter at this point.
>>
>>93716108

Well unlike most other incarnations the suit he has in the movie is actually ridiculously OP, he has an AI that tells him what to do and can automate 146 or whatever different gadgets for him, I'd be bitching if they had him relying on it the whole time, since then it'd be more like Karen is the real hero.

Yeah but that's just kinda it isn't it. The suit is taken away because it made him too strong, but like what thematically was it trying to say. Cause saying rely on your own power doesn't make too much sense when he takes the suit back. Don't forget he didn't build it, that's all Tony. And in the specific situation where he recalls the Tony talking about the suit, we aren't given an indication the suit could have helped him beyond calling for help.

That's not quite the same. A note calling him "that vulture guy" isn't the same as Keaton literally saying "you go around calling yourself the shocker."
That note is in character and it's not overstated, it's Peter saying "I don't know what to call this guy so he's just the vulture guy I guess."
Whereas there's literally a guy who calls himself The Shocker and there's a scene where a major character explains to the camera that said guy calls himself The Shocker.

to be honest it might be fun. MJ might work well in comic form but lets be honest, a true rendition of her character would be disliked to high hell, thats just how live action works most of the time- things don't necessarily translate well. by combining aspects of two diff characters together they might be trying to bring a more realistic MJ this time around

>>
>>93717492

I just realized we've never actually seen Bruce transform out of anger in the MCU, only fear/mind control/on purpose.

There's gotta be a climactic scene where he sees one/some of the Avengers being killed, Ruffalo does his best "completely losing it" and Hulk goes absolutely apeshit.
>>
I was really dreading the action sequences ever since the "no punching" thing got said but I didn't even notice. The creative use of webbing more than made up for it.

Id actually drop sandman and put mysterio in over powered CGI thing's spot. Cause if mysterio isn't that, don't bother. Plop in either Vulture, Shocker or Beetle. The CGI thing needs to be the loveable monster, and spider-man really only has Stegron. Venom or Sandman sure.... but I just don't see them using SM3 villains.

Then again, maybe chameleon could take its place. So many options. I hope they do sinister 6 though. i mean, fuck we got 2 1/2 spidey villains this movie.

I think his reaction to it what made Peter go from "Guy who wants to do good" to "Hero"

He knew that he could have just walked away, gotten the girl and never hear of it again, but he chose to out that aside and go after him because it was the right thing to do

Its what opened him up to listening to his little speech and realizing that beneath it all, Toomes was just a person who got screwed over, it's what made Pete want to start looking out for the little guys and become the "Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman",

and it's reinforced when he saves Toomes life despite everything he's done
>>
>>93717556

She's pretty instrumental in the finale with Thanos in the comics. They should kill off Gamora since she has shit characterization tbqh and it'd be motivation for the rest of the Guardians go to ham on trying to kill Thanos, but they probably won't due to muh sexist fridge trope.

This movie made me realize I really like the "criminal with a code" trope. Also, I liked how committed Peter was to nonlethal fighting, to the point where he actually saved Vulture from the wreckage. It's been relatively consistent in his movies so far, but it sets him apart from a lot of other MCU heroes who kill casually, and from several other heroes who will non-lethally take down enemies, but who don't seem to care much if their actions indirectly lead to the villain's death.
>>
>>93716772

They wouldn't have, but I didn't know that when the reveal happened. I just thought Sony was convoluting another story for the sake of soliciting emotion like they tried to do with SM4

>>93717701
Right and the whole "proving himself" aspect is what made this movie shine for me, but he already had that moral mentality from Civil War
>>
>>93717710

They aimed to make a John Hughes highschool movie with a superhero and hit the mark, kind of slice-of-life pacing and scope. Not as CGI overload bullshit as the Amazing movies and not as melodramatic as the Raimi movies.
>>
>Pete goes to pick up Liz
>oh fuck did he-
>oh fuuuuuuuuuuuck
>>
>>93717708
Probably won't kill off the Guardians because past GotG 3, they're going to become the Infinity Watch.
>>
>>93717765

Agreed. I also like how in the MCU the characters actually care about saving civilians, in every other brand of superhero movie no one gives a flying fuck.
>>
>>93717777

Sony had little in-put into the story, which is why that reveal was good writing lmao.
>>
Did anyone else think the purple stone that Peter picked up was gonna be an Infinity Stone?
>>
The chromakeying's pretty noticeable in this movie but I'll accept it.
>>
>>93717710
Without spoiling anything, it's a city level medium-and-personal stakes adventure with an identifiable hero and a villain whose motivation makes sense, making it a refreshing change from all the universe-ending stuff that's so common in recent superhero movies, and the "insane scientist experiment gone wrong" villains of previous Spider-Man movies. It has a funny supporting cast, and a good lead who disappears into the role, making him seem much more convincing that say, Andrew Garfield.
>>
>>93717788
>Not as CGI overload bullshit as the Amazing movies
Good enough for me, thx anon.
>>
>>93717818
No, because we already have a purple one, they pulled it out of a generic space gun, and basically all the stones are accounted for.

Snyder's idea of having concern about civilians is "Drop a line about how this part of the city we're destroying is completely abandoned", but I thought Wonder Woman showed a good amount of concern about the civilians who were affected by the war.
>>
>>93713798
Karen was funny and the interrogation voice had me unable to breathe for a few seconds.
>>
>>93715421
Pretty much how I felt. Vulture, the big twist, and everything following it saved the movie for me. Everything before hand felt too tongue and cheek, even for a Spidey film. To be honest I found most of the humor to be Deadpool-lite.

>>
>>93717826
>much more convincing that say, Andrew Garfield
I think thats a selling point. but to be fair even clooney was a better spiderman than garfield (see?)
>>
>>93717812
Is that right? My mistake. I guess I felt that it was too cliche of a reveal that they wouldn't do it then.
>>
>>93717818
No, because they pretty much explained everything they were working with was scraps from earlier battles, so it wouldn't be anything that important. For instance, that one looked alien and glowy, so my first thought was that it was probably some Chitauri tech.

They dropped a couple of cool hints in the villain scenes when they were talking about the weapons they had. One that stuck out to me was "black hole bombs" which must be what they called the grenades the Dark Elves used in Thor 2.

If Sony was writing that scene when he opened the door to Liz's house her dad would have introduced himself as Eddie, her mother would have had a weird obsession for black cats, Liz would come out the bathroom saying "don't go in there for a few hours, it's absolute CARNAGE", their creepy uncle would be talking about his interest of octopuses, Mysterio would be in the family photos and the Rhino mech would be parked in the garage rather than a great twist that raises the stakes for the protagonist and antagonist at the same time.
