Plotting does not equal the villains always having a master plan.
You can type HA as many times as you want but that doesn't change a thing with regards to the obvious love of the DCU on display in Young Justice.
You can cry about how the core cast was put aside but it really doesn't matter too much if you replace it with an excellent storyline in its stead. One of the best episodes involves a character we have never seen before going after vengeance against Lex Luthor.

Personally it took me a long time to adjust to the changes made to the core cast (and I downright resented Kaldur) as a fan of the titular comic and I was exponentially more appreciative of the first season as a whole when I went back and watched it uninterrupted. Perceived flawed characterizations and annoying catchphrases are significantly more pronounced when you get one episode per three months of a serialized show.

I watched all of Season 1 and when the big climax was everybody getting together I decided it was no longer worth the minimal effort of finding its airtimes. The characters were flat as hell and only interacted with their crush, the plots tended to be more convoluted than they needed to be just to get to the same action as any other superhero show, the villains just sat around saying that losing all the time was according to plan, and the few emotional beats got dropped and picked back up seemingly at random. It's like they cut out whole episodes and forgot to readjust the show for missing information.

and the climax was them all revealing their respective dark secrets in order to come together to finally prove once and for all that they were on the same level as their mentors. Like I said, you may just need to rewatch it.

Which is sort of true, but Aqualad's was ignored for almost the entire show, Megan's fell flat on its face skipping any development for the finale twist of everybody not caring, Superboy's kept resetting and getting forgotten about, Robin's was only brought up at all in a couple episodes and never actually fleshed out outside of "Robin must lead because Robin must lead", Kid Flash's got resolved halfway through and replaced by being tsundere for Artemis, and Artemis' arc was just brought up in tidbits without any real development. Everybody has an emotional arc that you could say they had the entire season, but they didn't really stick to those arcs or even follow through on half of them.

Aqualad had reservations from very early on about both being the leader of the team and being so far removed from his home, and he gradually learns how to accept the role. Miss Martian goes from being a catchphrase spouting sitcom character to revealing that her whole identity is constructed from insecurity. Superboy is an uncontrollable ball of rage and impotency until he learns how to act human and reject his anger. Robin is operating solo on the team until he finally realizes he doesn't want to be Batman and learns to rely on people and let them in. Kid Flash matures significantly throughout the whole season. Artemis is constantly dealing with her inferiority complex throughout the whole season. These arcs are set up from the earliest episodes and all coalesce perfectly at the end of the season as the various individual insecurities are once and for all cast aside as they finally become a team.

I agree that they had season long character arcs that were only "season long" in that they would have a line or two at the beginning or end of the episode sometimes, unless it was the single episode focused solely on their character arc. Which only counts as the very barest of technicalities. And those dark secrets were referenced in other episodes, but that's it: they were just referenced. They weren't developed, or subverted, or explored in any meaningful ways. They were just noted to exist, as a reminder that this character would have a plot that will matter later. Outside of those references, the show was far too worried about setting up the romantic relationships and long exposition of overly complicated villain situations to deal with individual character arcs. Hell, the female characters spoke so little lines to anybody but their designated crush you could probably count them on your fingers.

I didn't like how they made her white martian heritage into some kind of ugly duckling story. The premise is kind of simplistic, but you can do a lot of stuff with it and there is no reason it can't become a springboard to more creative stories for the character in the future. Have it so that she is conflicted about her people being such huge assholes and coming to grips with what that means for her own identity. Does she totally sever ties to them, or does she try to find some nobler aspects of white martiandom that she can embrace, possibly showing her people a better path by setting an example?

Her ugly duckling premise, by contrast, doesn't have much room for getting creative and will be totally played out once resolved.
