Iron Man II, Thor, and Incredible Hulk take place within a week, with Iron II being specifically stated being six months after the first movie. So those movies take place in late 2008/2009. So The Battle for New York takes place in 2009, not 2012.

They said 8 years later because I think they confirmed the kid at the Stark Expo being Pete and they wanted him to be fifteen years old in this movie.

So there's 6 years in between Avengers 1 and 2? That seems kind of ridiculous when you consider the movie opens with them going after the scepter from the first one. Would it really take them 6 years to go find it? Also calls into question when Winter Soldier happens. Was Falcon looking for Bucky for 5+ years before Civil War happened?
