That's a bad way of explaining it. It being a fan game doesn't mean not able to add new characters, it's just legal reasons tied to it. If FF Retro was made entirely from scratch, from the ground up, the only thing CN can do is get pissy about it being called "Fusion Fall" in anyway. But it's not their FF, just a recreation, they only own the IPs.

What a better example is, think of Super Smash Bros: Project M. The devs weren't able to add new characters not legally for the game initially to keep them from getting Nintendo in a huffy because it's THEIR game these modders are modding and adding things the game isn't legally allowed to have in. It's really gray area stuff that Nintendo and whatever character you add to the game prior no one wants to legally mess with, so they shut you down. Since this was a high possibility, the devs of PM just stuck with characters native to the game's copyright, being characters like Knuckles, Lyn and Issac being worked on content for the game. Since these characters are already copyrighted for the game, it was ok to make them into fighters.

So basically, they CAN add newer characters that would be series rep'd by other characters already playable, see "PPG" or so, but anything not copyrighted for the game initially is asking for trouble. Even using in series reps still wouldn't be 100% safe since their still creating new stuff for a game they aren't the original makers of. It's really complicated, basically. It would be nice to see more characters added for more explorable variety.

I was never able to play FusionFall as often as I wanted to, but I always loved the concept of it. I also especially love the designs.

It kinda reminds me of Kingdom Hearts. If only Nick had their own massive crossover thing... although, there was the Nicktoons Unite games.

Technically. Retro is more of a revived server for the original FusionFall client circa 2009-2010. Basically everything either before the Birthday Bash or before the Academy update.

Legacy is a full-on overhaul of the game, basically bringing in more characters to flesh out the story as well as bring in some unused areas and story concepts from the development of the original game. They might also find a better way to integrate the newer shows into the stories, particularly Chowder, Flapjack, Adventure Time, etc.

That's actually sort of my headcanon for them in FusionFall. They go through a gradual metamorphosis that would make them more human. Though, between them and what they look like in FusionFall, the midway points would look...disturbing. Which would mean they would rarely talk about stuff between their early years and the present.

Yeah, though, out of all the Eds in FusionFall, I remember Eddy getting the most shit mainly for his design. It looked fine in the art, but the in-game model had those eyes and it just didn't.

Thankfully, Legacy's giving everyone model fixes and Eddy is one of them. You'd be surprised at how much change that a pair of new eyes could bring.

Well, Legacy will likely be ported to the latest version for the sake of stability. Unless you have a toaster for a PC, it shouldn't be too hard to run. I think the reason why they spent so much time setting up the server for Retro was in order to iron out any issues with the older Unity engine. If so, you'll likely be able to run it just fine.

Are there any videos out there showing the interactions with the various NPCs?

After the game shut down I always wanted to hear all the unique voicework again but I could never find anything.

Well, there's a reason for that.

Remember FusionFall Heroes? That spin-off title that was just a lamer version of Diablo? Gumball, alongside Mordecai and Rigby, were playable characters in that game and they were apparently plans for them to be included as Nanos and possibly NPCs in the main game. With their inclusion in that spin-off, they count as part of FusionFall's roster and since Feedback was also in Heroes, anything from Ben 10 Omniverse could be included.

I think one of the things they're planning on doing is either scrapping or heavily changing the "FusionFall Adventures" stuff in order to have them be more connected to the main story rather than just be self-contained filler.

Adventure Time's plot may especially change considering the amount of change that was brought to the series.
