You don´t need to waste 20 minute to explain Dracula´s motivation. He is Dracula everyone knows he is fucking evil. If you want his Symphony of the Night backstory you can show it after you introduce the main character of your story.
It even gives more narrative weight to your story. first show dracula doing evil shit and then show that he has good reasons to be pissed of with humanity.

I'd say "complete failure" because while I'm aware of the memes I've never played the games; but watch more animated media than live action. And I shut this off less than halfway through the first episode around the time the waifu was being burned to death for MUH SCIENCE by MUH CHURCH ... and not for something understandable like being marred to actual hellspawn. "Don't hurt them, they don't know what they're doing" ( while being burned alive at the sake ) was about as hard as I've cringed in ... ever. And I had to sit through the amazingly forced meetcute between her and Vlad to get there.

The point I think here is that Castlevania generally aligns the the heros with the Church/Christ and the villains with the powers of Darkness, Lords of Evil, Death, and of course, actually fucking Satan. There are tons of Americans (and I mean a lot) who do believe in Christianity. There are a lot who practice it hard, and there are a lot who don't really care. But there is a large growing amount of atheists who are becoming increasingly vocal about not believing in god. So this movie was made in response to those atheists to make Christian people feel good with shit like "he did actually believe in god he was just mad at him."

I just realized that they could have taken more mileage of the story if they used Rondo of Blood instead of castlevania 3.

Need the evil priest, you have Shaft and he is also a necromancer so the fightscene could have used zombies and skelletons instead of ramdom people.
need to tie it to dracula´s wife and Alucard, rondo is the prequel to Symphony of the night.
Need more characters from the games? Rondo has two playable characters and 5 NPCs

I think Hunchback of Notre Dame or Witcher 3 did a good job at tackling this without turning people off. There was an immediate sympathetic Christian figure in the form of a priest chastising Frollo in Hunchback and in Witcher the first Witch Hunter you come across in the Baron quest is one of the most reasonable people you've met up until that point, and then later on you come across the fanatical witch burners. You'll see that Castlevania isn't fedora if you watch until the last episode, but that's only if you get to that point.

Dracula's Curse is the origin story though, at least before the 3D games went further back and added shit nobody likes like Mathias.

It's a smart place to start. If they do a follow-up after Season 2 I can totally see it being the Rondo/Symphony pair, since this leads into that story nicely.

Trevor was in his teens when he fought Dracula but westerner L's hate any main character that isn't older and scraggly out of some misguided association with machismo. Trevir is also the first Belmont to fight Dracula since Iga retconed Sonia. Sypha was an agent of the church sent to kill Dracula and passed herself off as a man until the end of the story. Grant was just a pirate until they retconned his story and made him in love with Sypha and jealous of her affection for Trevor. Alucard hated his father and that's about it
