Is Garfield a good comic strip?
No.

I swore there was some interview where Jim Davis admitted that Garfield was done purely for the money, he was competent enough to gauge the market and produce a product inoffensive enough to be everywhere and hitting the proper signifiers to appeal to a broad audience.
But I can't produce a source for that, so maybe it was hearsay or at worst a misremembered parody article.
oops.
None the less, the market for newspaper comics is profoundly different than other comic markets. Like the exact opposite of how modern Marvel editorial tries to work.
Storytiming how Jon and Liz hooked up.
>>93690462
I remember when this first ran, I was gobsmacked that Garfield was doing an actual storyline for the first time in Davis-knows-how-long.

This. I've been randomly surfing through Garfield strips on the site recently out of boredom and some of them were pretty funny, while others were lazy as hell. It feels that Davis or whoever is doing these now can occasionally come with a good joke but obviously not every day for 40+ years.

Yes.
From the moment I read it, until the end of my days, I will hold the "Lemonade" strip up as a work of comic genius.
I think Garfield's alright. People gripe about how Davis just made the comic for profit, but heck, every other comic out there is made just for profit. If anything, Garfield's popularity just goes to show how good he was at it. I don't think any random schmo could make something as big as Garfield even if they tried doing something just for the money.

>>93721897
They'd been working on a second wave of videos as far back as when the first wave was released nine years ago. There were even two music videos that they didn't release at the time, the dingleball.com one and the cupcake mouse one.
As far as why they did it, they just want to go the extra mile on things.
