Brainiac is the main villain. All hyperbole aside he's exterminated billions of civilizations, killed quadrillions of people, and threatens to do the same to Earth, on top of being so powerful that only an alliance of all the heroes and villains even has a chance of beating him. He also blew up Krypton. Which prevented Kara from being around to help her cousin. If she was present he likely wouldn't have turned.

But in the context of the Regime vs Insurgency bullshit the main villain is Batman. Superman and Wonder Woman are sociopaths but Batman did everything he possibly could to isolate Superman and make the situation worse. And it's his fault the Joker was even still alive.

Crazy theory... We can all notice how Diana's compassionate personality just suddenly vanished so quickly after Metropolis. Oh and how she admits that she schemed to make Superman pacify the world with no compassion but only ruthlessness. Oh and how did Joker did what he did in Metropolis, how did he know about Superman's identity, and why Superman, and how did Joker drug Superman who is known to be immune to all diseases and drugs?

I mean sure it could be understood that Joker was smart enough to figure Superman out and choosing Superman might be an easier target for his insanity to get the better of, plus getting a nuke... but the illusion of Doomsday that looks too much for the Joker to resource and plan easy?

The theory is "What If" Wonder Woman secretly helped him do it? What if she suddenly lost hope and the only way to cleanse the world of evil and bring about her world of peace she needed Superman too do it? But she knows he wouldn't unless something tragic would've happened. So she found someone who could bring the travesty. She gave Joker the nuke, told him who Superman was, and gave Joker a magic resource to make Superman believe that he is fighting Doomsday and not Lois.

A good theory, wouldn't you say?

But killing the Joker isn't like killing a normal criminal. The Joker isn't some guy that killed his wife or raped a child. He's worse than that.

I'm not seeing how anyone could justify a "start of darkness" off killing Joker.

Think of it like how Walt in Breaking Bad was torn up over killing the drug dealer in his basement or the drug chemist with the music video, because those were lines he crossed. But he didn't give a damn about killing the crazy drug dealer that kidnapped him.

Killing the Joker, especially when he's entire gimmick is based on being an edgelord and asking for it, it not the same as killing a normal human criminal.
