Someone asked for a storytime of empowered volume 9 when I storytimed vol 10 yesterday. So, I'll get started...
Volume 10 is here: >>93662553

Not shit posting, but has she gotten thicker? I have only read the originals from 2007.
>>93682073
>>93682088
Yes, she's gained weight. It's kinda pointed out later in the story and confirmed in volume 10.
>>93682093
>>93682130
>>93682153
Yeah, ghostwriter is one of my favorite characters.
>>93682179
>>93682204
>>93682228
>>93682241
>>93682088
Warren caved to the vocal minority when some guy complained about Emp not being fat enough;_;
>>93682275
>>93682283
Her feeling fat has always been kinda part of her character. I still think she might be pregnant, tbqh.

>>93683463
No problem
>>93683444
Yeah, he's great. I'd like to see more of him

>>93685692
>>93682978
>Rhubarb
...What?
>>93685711
>>93685730
It's a reference to how they film crowd scenes in movies. To get the proper murmuring crowd noises, all the extras just say "rhubarb" over and over.
Emp fans is The Soldier of Love worth a read? I didnt know there were spinoffs to Empowered until yesterday
>>93684776
I wonder what effect it would have on an undead cape.

Ooh so chevalier Blanc had turned up before vol 10
>>93686521

thanks anon, this is so much better than 90% of Marvel's current lineup
>>93682341
yeah, I think she's preggers too
>>93682598
wait just a goddamn minute. if all the dead heroes are Superdeads, where the hell is Mindfuck?
>>93687272
One, not every dead cape becomes a Superdead. Two, her body was completely incinerated.
>>93687272
Only some dead supers become superdead. It's generally a consequence of their powers.
Also Mindfuck went through re entry in a giant ass space station. She's super dead.
>>93687304
Three, there's a pretty good chance she's alive in Emp's head.
Four,Something's got to give! RUAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
>>93687272
Mindfuck either isn't a bargain baby or she was completely incinerated when the space station burnt up upon reentry.
>>93687109
No problem. I agree. It's a shame that there's only one Adam Warren
>>93687109
Starting chapter 2 featuring one of my favorite characters
>>93687385
>>93687446
>>93687469
>>93686854
The hypermembrane can regenerate itself completely from scraps. With how much it tears, there is probably a ton of it scattered around the city. All a villain has to do is collect enough scraps and leave them close to Emp for them to become 'active' and regenerate.
I think.
>>93687498
>>93687304
> not every dead cape becomes a Superdead
oops. nvm.
>>93687506
I'm not totally sure how the suit's regeneration works, but it's still more ethical to confiscate it from Empy instead of virtually kidnapping her and dragging her off to a Comic book version of a communication management unit.
>>93687541
>>93687626
And it begins.
>>93687626
Hehehe
I've never actually read this myself, but is this some kind of fetish/softcore porn comic?
>>93687686
On the very surface of it, yes. Primarily it's comedic, engaging superhero deconstruction done right.
>>93687686
Started out as a fetishy joke comic... then Adams inner darkness came out and it became a deconstruction of superhero cape comics.
>>93687668
>>93687751
>>93687751
It is a testament to this woman's patience she didn't just VORP him the moment she saw the cover. Like, goddamn man.
>>93687782

>>93687780
>>93687846
>>93687869
>>93687846
It's less balls and more total obliviousness as to just how strong and scary Emp can be when she gets her hackles up.

>>93691129
Oh cool, so she makes it out alive. But how does she escape from the smartfiber restraint membrane?
>>93691222
She doesn't. Those are infomercials
>>93691307
Infomercials? So then who was the person in the smartfiber restraint membrane? Is she still alive?
>>93691346
Emp is an unwilling actress in those infomercials. On the next page, they make a hole for her to breath or something like that. i cant remember well.
please come back
>>93682088
to be fair it was getting a little grating having everyone call supermodel emp a fat pig, like I understand thats the joke, but it gets real fucking old the hundredth time. So I can understand him actualy making her chubby
>>93692078
>>93688845
Honestly I got used to it. In a side by side comparison I prefer thinner Emp but her new look makes more sense for her character, makes her more distinct and it stopped looking 'fat' to me pretty quickly into the storytime. It wouldn't look fat at all if her face was more realistically drawn.

How does she breath through the smartfiber membrane?
>>93695206
The "smart" part probably is a hint. Most of the stuff she gets her head wrapped in is stated to be breathable
But her suit lets her prance about in hard vacuum so she's not gonna asphyxiate anytime soon
>>93682369
Aaaaaaaa so cute!
>>93695206
During the issue where this stuff was introduced they explained that all of these restraints were specially made to allow the person inside to breathe because of the "unwritten rules" about not killing capes. Would be kinda hard to sell a restraint system that might asphyxiate it's target and piss off their super powered friends into doing a revenge hit on you.
>>93686404
>>93686490
Whoa it's weird seeing her with no mask on
>>93687044
Wait, the sexy cape bigwig is named Stig? As in, The Stig?

>>93695206
It really doesn't matter. Her suit has life support and gives her the ability to survive in a vacuum

>>93699007
I've got to say, I really love Adams shading and texturing
>>93699071
>>93699071
Now this is how you do a scary supervillain, take note, mainstream capeshit
>>93698846
>Why doesn't he just find a fire-based girlfriend or something? You know, someone that's invulnerable to heat?
That cute burning bride from the Heronet news would be a perfect match
>>93698846
>Why doesn't he just find a fire-based girlfriend or something? You know, someone that's invulnerable to heat?
How's he supposed to eat while he's fucking, then?
>>93699071
>I've got to say, I really love Adams shading and texturing
It's very good, but I wish he'd use something that blended a little better than Sharpie for the ultra-black portions.
For example, in the ARR on the seat/restraint on that page. Though it works better for the rags draped around DM.
>>93699208
Oh yeah. She was kinda hot.
>>93699153
>>93699277
>She was kinda hot.
Carlos!
>>93699276
Oh yeah I think he should probably use softer lead or charcoal for that or using the burn tool set to midtones a little in photoshop might help. But I understand that he wants to be pure with his work and it shows in a good way though vol 10 was a bit jarring.
>>93699277
>>93698846
He's evil, and an artificial being so there probably isn't enough of a childhood to draw on for examples of gokd relationships.
He'd probably murderfuck a mate just because he can. Choke instead of incinerate.
>>93685767
>>93686834
The best spinoff in my opinion was Animal Style.
Soldier of Love was actually good and worth reading if you're a fan of the series though. It helps that the artist on it was good at being cute without going too anime.
Also, it seems to confrim thatEmp is a Bargainer.
>>93699520
Indeed. But it's kinda like how I'd like to see a horror movie where characters do everything right or at least logically and still die.
>>93699456
>>93699580
I think she's a legit alien, goddess or angel or something.
>>93699587
>>93699630
>>93699706
For all that this series started as a fetishy joke comic, it has, in Deathmonger and Willy Pete, two of the most genuinely horrifying villains ever to grace a superhero book. The fact that Warren doesn't flinch one little bit from killing off interesting characters in truly horrifying manners really sells their menace in a way that no Marvel or DC villain ever gets to; they have too-vested an interest in keeping their interesting characters alive for decade after decade to really butcher them the way these two do.
>>93700110
Yeah. And everyone has an interesting backstory that is a potential story in an of themselves. I wanted to check out livewires but the artwork felt like discount Adam warren.

>>93701788
>>93699456
Warren's obsession with faux-youth slang is bad enough, but specifically in Empowered how he has to have so many different characters say "superchica", goddamn annoying.

Manny was too good for this world.
>>93709845
>>93709988
Is it wrong that I think grown manny would be better and more stable for Emp than thugboy. Come to think about it, I don't know thugboy's actual name. I'm sure it was mentioned or something.
I think Emp and thugboy both have it twisted. They seem to think they are in love but that seems to be expressed almost totally physically and on some level, I feel that Emp is like Thugboy's bedcape pet project. He still hates capes for being capes but this cape is enthusiastically putting out on the regular.
Meanwhile, Manny seems to genuinely respect her and he's not thinking about how he's going to bed her or bend her over something but instead wants to put a ring on it and live an honest family life. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. There's nothing wrong with wanting to have sex with Emp buuuut... when have they ever actually had a conversation about something not dealing with her dangerous job or not involving sex?
>>93710208
>>93710251
>>93710208
To be fair to Thugboy, He loves the girl behind the mask. Manny loves Emp but doesn't know who she really is. It's like Spider-man and Black Cat in the beginning. Black Cat loves Spider-man but couldn't even think of being with Peter.
>>93710283
I really like Emp and i always cry thinking about Manny. No, he would not have ended like MP, because he saw the part of Emp that so few people have seen.
>>93710288
Good point. Manny doesn't know anything about Emp personally beyond what thugboy saw when he first met her. but it would be nice to actually see Emp and thugboy' relationship be more of a relationship. Not that I'm complaining about all the sex. It's just that doing that isn't really a test of the relationship to see if it's real ot\r not. Vol 10 did present a test tho with thugboy's 'hey, a thug gotta thug-ride or walk-love it or leave it' speech
>>93710283
>>93710422
Well, he doesn't know anything because It's probably in the unwritten rules not to fuck with Secret Identities or something, or he respects EMP enough not to snoop. He only doesn't know Elissa because she never told him.
>>93710350
Yeah, manny was something special. Too bad he never got to be the villain that he wanted to be. He would have been the best. like this universe's doctor doom.
>>93710422
Gaddamit forgot the page!
>>93710470
I'd like to know more about his relationship with Deathmonger. She seemed to have a particular interest in him, so he must have had some sort of potential. And she doesn't seem like she'd be easy to get along with.

Their relationship has really been shown as just sex therapy but the chapter where Thug talks about Emp cries in her sleep is really sweet. I haven't read vol 10 yet but I hope to see a bit more behind Thugboys mask and see if his nightmares about that Fire Fuck lead him to choose himself or Emp.

Yeah, I'm amazed that he made a big enough name for himself that deathmonger respects his wishes.

I'd be happy if I just knew his name. I'm sure it was mentioned...

One of my personal favorites is "keepers of the Maser, by Frezzato. I also have fires of askel, but I don't think I can post that on a blue board,

This page was how you do a payoff. Man. Such great writing.
So does she not lose her powers when the suit gets tore up? She was kicking the dicks off superbaddies in this despite being in tatters. So why does she get taken down so easy?

>So does she not lose her powers when the suit gets tore up?
Yes. With a large caveat. It appears that the suit loses its power not in relation to the actual percent of its membrane that's missing, but Emp's level of self confidence/conscious.

Given Manny was basically dying and Death Monger's usual MO when it comes to dead Superheroes (and apparently, villains), it's entirely possible that she went after him, and he held his own well enough to earn her respect.
