The dialogue is dated in that Stan needs to narrate EVERYTHING to you. There's a real shit scene where Jonah explains his inner motivations for hating Spider-Man to himself at length. He also writes over Ditko's intent: issue 5 has Dr. Doom shot Peter out a window and assume he's dead as he looks out at the churning waters below; Stan has Peter saying he's making a strategic retreat and Doom screaming about just how smart and cool Peter is.

If you already know the gist of the story, just skim it. Ditko's rendering isn't impeccable, but his sense for motion and panel composition is exquisite. It's just fun to read. If you pretend half the dialogue doesn't exist, it's wonderful.
