Why do Marvel keep doing this?

You mean making console war threads?
I dunno, OP.
>>
>>93640887
Quesada and Jemas mistook comics for professional wrestling, so they decided to pick up where Shooter left off and take every opportunity to petulantly shit on the competition while encouraging everyone else to do the same.

Jemas is gone and Quesada was promoted to a different position, but the atmosphere that they fostered remains.

Just goes to show Marvel will make desperate attempts to trash the competition so they look better and that they purposefully bully other studios into making shitty attempts at cinematic universes or franchises like theirs or Transformers so they can be the kings. It's why they bought Star Wars in case Capeshit fails them.

>Why do Marvel keep doing this?
Because Marvel is getting BTFO in comics, BTFO in animation, BTFO in vidya, BTFO in tv, and now BTFO in movies with Wonder Woman, the last and only place where something with the Marvel name is more successful compared to their competitors. They've been getting rightfully shit on for more than a year by even normie outlets and their awfulness has penetrated even Disney's drone shilling umbrella. So they do what even 4chan shitposters do - fall back on tired jokes from +1yrs. ago in order to try and reconnect to their suffering fanbase and remind them of a time when they weren't the current laughingstock of their industry. Because actually exerting effort and putting out good material is hard, so you might as well pull out memes while their house burns down around them.

They thought they were being so clever though.
>Snyder: So we got all this set-up for them to fight, but how do we get them back on the same side.
>Goyer: Superman and Batman have a lot in common. But they just don't see it yet. We need to bridge the gap somehow. They need some kind of common ground. Something really basic.
>Snyder: Dude, dude! You know their moms have the same name.
>Goyer: Dude! Have Superman say his mom's name when Batman is about to kill him. That will remind him of his own parents death and how he's in danger of becoming the very thing he fought. It will also relate back to the idea of Superman being human, because he too cares about his mother. And Bruce will see that now.
>Snyder: Man it writes itself! But wait, why would Clark call his mom by her first name?
>Goyer: Don't sweat the small stuff! This is gold, man. Solid gold.

They can't attack the comics because Rebirth is destroying them

They can't attack the tv shows because those CW shows are much more popular than the ones they shit out

They can't attack the videogames because the Arkham games and Injustice are fucking burying them

And now Wonder Woman has made it clear what everybody with access to internet already knew, the DCEU is succesful as fuck and outpacing the MCU when it started. But the MCU has 12 movies more so they can still pretend they are winning there somehow and they'll take what they can get. The moment the MCU stops being popular, that is, when RDJ decides to leave, Marvel is all but dead.

What you don't understand that regardless of how it is handled, it's the sort of far fetched bullshit that undercuts the entire narrative.

A single word defusing two hours of build-up to get two people to fight each other is, to put it plainly, melodramatic and amateurish. It makes a fake conflict feel even more fake, because it falls apart so easily.
Especially given how unreasonable, incompetent and stand-offish both characters had to be written to get them to fight in the first place.

I thought it did the opposite. Batfleck had been dismissing any good that superman had been doing and trying to bring him down. When he finally does so and is about to kill him, what does superman do?

He asks Batman to save his mother. Batman was so busy administering his brand of Justice that he had forgotten how what it was to be a hero and a symbol of hope. Superman brings that back to him.

I still think that martha shit was what made it such a meme.

Clearly you didn't understand it. It's not just any single word, there's a larger context in the works that you can't reduce to an isolated word. Everything about Batman's arc, where he is spiraling to the darkness has been building up to this moment. Out of the blue, he hears the name of his dead mother, of whose murder he dreams about every night to this day. And as such it triggers his childhood PTSD. And it doesn't just magically make him like Superman, it simply throws him off his game. He can't understand why Superman would mention his mother's name. And so he stops, and starts demanding for Clark to explain himself. His urge to murder has shifted to rage and confusion since he can't no longer understand the situation. It's only Lois' intervention that diffuses the situation when she explains Clark was begging him to save his mother even as he was about to die and that is what breaks the camels back, by making Bruce finally see Superman as a person for the first time. A man very similar to himself, rather than a strange otherworldly alien being he couldn't understand but could easily hate and conveniently project all his fears into. And that is why he can't kill him. Because all his blinding hatred, self-deception and lies have been stripped away, and he has to face the ugly truth: he was going to murder a man simply out of pure fear. He was going to be the very thing he has spent his whole life fighting against.

It's a complex, deeply character oriented scene that addresses everything Batman represents and how astray he had become from those values. People like you trying to reduce it to a inane meme shows fundamental inability to understand the scene for what it really is about.

He is clearly unhinged and actually believes the koolaid that he sprouts. He seems like evil mark zuckerberg, which is good because he would otherwise be compared directly to kevin spacey and gene hackman.
>>
>>93644244
Because batman is a deeply disturbed individual who has already pegged down superman as how lex luthor sees him in the movie. A malevolent god that is seeking to rule over humanity.

The last thing Clark presumably says to batman is basically, Pls save my mum. It humanizes superman and lets batman see superman as he really is, not as the image he built up in his mind.
>>
>>93644315
But why believe that? If I'm so bloodthirsty that I want to murder this alium that hasn't intentionally done anything wrong then if he says my dead mother's name has one of his last words I'm gonna assume he's fucking with me and kill him even faster than I was going to before. Batman's pause made no sense, he knew Clark knew he was, if the name did anything it should have sent him into an even more blind rage.
>>
>>93643834
>Like Bendis recurring gag of someone being arrested while describing a DC event

>>
>>93644358
Because that is not the thing you expect from a person who you are about to kill? Batman had been running around gotham cappin' fools and branding them.

Also it is lois who tells batman who Superman means by martha. He is basically telling batman, who is about to kill superman, to save his mom. Bruce became batman because he was unable to save his parents. In a way the fight is a rebirth of the batman who doesn't kill.
>>
>>93644401
>Because that is not the thing you expect from a person who you are about to kill?
But if I know he already knows who I am then I'm gonna assume any mention of people I know is just a diversion because I'm fucking blinded with rage at the moment.

>I am blinded with rage.
He wasn't. In his mind he was fighting for a earth that would be unthreatened by superman. Right when he is about to kill Supes, the (presumably) last words that superman tries to tell are to save Martha, which is coincidentally both their mom's names. If he killed superman, he would never figure out what he means by "save Martha."

After lois tells him, he puts two and two together and finally understands what superman means. Batman might not be able to save his mom, but he can save superman's mom.

There is no evidence that batman is completely blinded by rage. He is clearly capable of reasoning and using his brains in combat - as well as he should be since he is going up against a god.

None as much a batman but this doesnt seem to be a problem for Nolan bats or the 80s/90s bats.
Most live action bats used guns on cars and have done things that in a real life scenario would result in serious injuries/death. But this bats who had been protrayed as off his rocker and thus in the wrong is a bad portrayal.

HellCap threw aguy into airplane blades. But hes own guy?

Not exactly true, one of the prevalent critiques of Nolan bats was still his use of violence and his vague ass "no killing but I'm going to shoot at you and plod around in my gun tank"

True, but those also tended to be a lot more cartoony in general.

Cap isn't anti-killing though. Sure he'd like to avoid it, but he's still an actual soldier and will shoot you in the face.

If you care about the movies, you might get a giggle. But if you look at the current states for both comic companies, it's actually kind of sad. But Marvel doesn't have any editors that would normally shoot that down. Why bring that kind of attention when you're the one that's lagging behind?

Assuming you're somewhat versed in Batman's history, you might recall what happened after Jason Todd was murdered by Joker. In the time that followed, Bruce became a brooding wraith who brutally punished any criminal that caught his attention regardless of the severity of their crime. That all changed when Tim Drake came along to take up the mantle, against Bruce's wishes initially, to show him that there was a better way and to become the hero so many relied upon once more. In this reality, Bruce never had Tim come along to bring him back from the edge after his loss. The years went by, chipping away at his humanity and leaving only the hollowness of hatred to fill the void, as he hurt those closest to him. Alfred barely recognizes Bruce as the boy he raised and the great man he'd once been, having spent years enabling his violent quest for revenge because he knew no better way than to descend into this madness alongside him. It isn't until Clark sacrifices himself that Bruce comes to realize just how far he'd fallen and decides to climb back up from the depths of despair and into the light.

Not that guy, but he's not wrong. BvS is far from perfect & it took the extended cut to slightly fix it but raise more questions on why one important scene was cut from the theatrical release & not a pointless scene. It took several different comic ideas, that could've been used for future films, & cram them in for some to geek out. They should've used the death of Superman later & not this early in the game. They definitely shouldn't have used Doomsday this soon. Scrap the pointless cameos. Fix the fuck out of Luthor. Etc. Etc.

Hell, nobody even knew who Jimmy Olsen was until they watched it again.

I really do not get why the whole "Martha" scene was such a big fucking deal. Superman begs Batman to save his mother because he'd rather let Batman kill him instead of risk his mother dying, and just so happens to say her name. If Superman didn't say his mother's name, the results would be the same, because Batman is still a fucking hero and would realize that he was fighting the wrong guy. Their mothers having the same name just adds weight to the scene. Even my son knew this was basically the "team-up moment".

What?

The Rollo Tomasi line works because it's both a character elaboration for Exley and a surprise bit of plot detail that you don't expect to come back, it's not some catch-all salve for the two characters who are fighting.

BvS is like if Bud and Exely were beating the shit out of each other but they stopped because one of them said "Rollo Tomasi" to the other and they suddenly became best friends.

Nah that's bullshit, they could have had Superman say something like "they have my mom" but they intentionally slanted the dialog so that he'd say the name Martha out loud and made it clear that the name itself is what shocked Batman into hesitating.

Plus Batman already had a line earlier in the movie about "I bet your parents told you you were special" so it's not like the idea of Supes having loved ones never occurred to him.

Jesus, I almost killed a man who could be me just because I was angry and afraid of him. What is wrong with me?

That's what diffuses the situation. Martha and Lois combined shatter the entire "Superman is an alien being who will one day destroy the world because I am afraid of him" narrative Batman has constructed in his head and thus he has no reason to kill him.

In a completely abstract "filthy alien scum just like their world threatening God like son" way. It doesn't mean anything because he has no context to them. It's like pointing at a random picture and saying this was your great great grandfather, means nothing to you since there are no emotional ties involved. The realization that Superman has a human mother on Earth changes things because Batman unconsciously automatically associates Superman's mother Martha with his own flesh and blood, dead mother Martha Wayne. And that forces him see Superman in a completely new light.

Yeah but the fact that he had parents wasn't

But here's the real question. If it's really just about Superman having a mom, why did they force him into the completely implausible position of referring to his own mother by her first name? Why did the writing force him to say Martha instead of "mom" or "my mom" if that wasn't the point?

>Warner Brothers couldn't even scrounge enough cash to get an MCU movie a razzie
>>
>>93655851

It's not because you're willfully ignoring the larger context when it comes to Batman's reasoning to kill Superman. Batman is ignoring all the acts of heroism Superman has done in two years specifically because he thinks of Superman as a thing, not as a human being. And as an alien thing Superman is something he is able to project all his paranoia, hate, fear and cynicism into since Superman isn't a person anymore, just an abstract threat that needs to be removed.

The Martha scene forces Batman to look Superman in a completely new perspective and it removes any reason for him to kill Superman. The mooks that die in BvS are largely via proxy as self-defense and he knows they're all dangerous criminals since they work for Luthor and are kidnapping old women and working under KGBeast. He doesn't plan to cold bloodedly murder anyone but Superman. His methods are still brutal and excessive, but that's part of his erratic behavior and character arc where he's losing control and descending into villainy, not branding Luthor is a sign of him returning to his normal self.

And it's irrational because he's ignoring all of Superman's heroics in favor of his "B-b-but what about muh what if 1% scenario!" bullshit. Batman is set up from the very beginning to be unhinged and wrong, letting his fear dictate his actions. He's only seeing what he wants to see, a boogieman, and he's throwing unrelated, illogical rhetoric to justify his actions any time he's challenged by Alfred. That is what Alfred's "that's how it begins, the fever" speech is all about when Bruce returns from torturing the human trafficker. Alfred's criticizing how Bruce seems to be turning bad with his increasingly brutal methods, not knowing that Master Bruce's madness is already going way deeper.

>if you're not worried about supes destroying earth you shouldn't vote to stop global warming.

If I worried about every 1% chance that could mean the End, I would kill myself since I couldn't function in life. That way of thinking is insane and illogical, that is why it's ridiculous and 100% tinfoil hat tier thinking. Might as well worry that any minute North Korea could start world war 3, an exotic flu would create a world wide pandemic, a terrorist groups start using home made dirty bombs in major cities, the water has been contaminated by lead and the government has kept it under wraps for several years, the car I drive happens to be faulty manufactured but the manufacturer has no recalled them yet, a my cellphone might blow up in my face,I might have a brain tumor and not know it, an asteroid NASA failed to notice is going to collide on Earth and hits my house. Etc. ad infinitum.
