iirc the creators said something about not wanting to adress their biological parents as it would imply they were Phineas and Candaces' 'real' father or Ferb's 'real' mother and the point was they weren't. The Flynn-Fletchers are as close as any biological family and they thought calling attention to their step-sibling status would undermine that.

It had a lot of great episodes however, a part of me wishes they'd continued with the specials.
The Star Wars crossover and The Day of the Living Pharmacists were brilliant.

Disney gave them the option of continuing the show just as specials but Dan and Swampy wanted to move on to just focusing on Milo Murphy. Shame, I would have loved more of the Star Wars crossovers or a yearly Halloween episode.

I really wish there'd been that movie. Sort of a sequal to ATSD but also a finale to the series. Maybe leading to a cross over between the various AU episodes we saw.

I was a bit iffy about the apparant liveaction but I liked the idea of the kids being stuck in the real world and having to deal with no "mysterious force" or montage music to get their projects done
