It seems like every cartoon on television these days is intentionally designed to be ugly or without any kind of consistent model for the characters. America has produced amazing looking cartoons in the past for both television and movies, but lately it seems like they are actively pissing it away on ugly designs.
Cartoons are dead because they can't compete with either videogames or actual television

So is animation in general just a dying medium?
why can't you use one of the other threads?
>>93631677
television is also dying ya dingus!
Because they're no longer animated in North America.
>>93631584
Animation is too expensive to make because nobody watches TV anymore.
Its not ugly, its an artstyle!
CalArts.
I can stand watching all these blobs pretending to be characters, even if the show is fun and has decent writing.

Capitalism

You act like studios are forced to buy Cal Arts. Why don't better artist offer to work for the same wage?
Why do so many people on /co/ think that animation is actually done by americans? Are people here really that ignorant about their own board subject?
>>93633608
This. We can't afford animation anymore.

How come expensive live action TV still gets made then? Execs still seem so dumb they think broadcast viewing figures matter (despite more people watching online and/or buying DVDs these days - Because who the fuck wants to be dictated a time to watch something?) yet they don't seem to cut the budgets and cancel live action shows the same way they have with cartoons.
Besides, we know what the future is, and it's Netflix. They seem to actually be investing in some decent cartoons now by themselves.

Well not the axtual animation no, but the decision to create poorly funded digital animation in Korea is American.

>Are people here really that ignorant about their own board subject?
Yes. Might as well just skip every thread like this because like 95% of posts will be assumptions about how shit works, with anons' entire arguments/opinions based around their assumptions.
It's one thing when threads are like "this looks like shit," typical arguments about style etc., but when the discussion turns to WHY something supposedly does or doesn't look like shit it gets retarded.
