Garfield is a wholesome comic. It's refreshing to be able to read a comic that's just honest and doesn't rely on shock humor, pop culture references, memes, etc. to entertain. It's not trying to be edgy to appeal to teens or manchildren, it's not trying to push an agenda. It's just a comic about a cat who's hungry and beats up a dog sometimes.

Also, that fucking part of Nine Lives. God fucking dammit, ever since I was a boy, I never fail to cry or at least get teary-eyed whenever I watch that. Why does a fucking Garfield special of all things make me feel the saddest? And why was the special itself so fucking weird? It's beautiful in a way because of that.

IIRC the 9th Live/Space Cat had a different ending in the comic. The cartoon implied Garfield and Odie died at the end of the 9th life to lead up to the reveal that God has cat eyes. In the book the God eye reveal was done in the prologue. In the ending Garfield didn't die in his 9th life because it was revealed he was playing an arcade game.
