Never.
In fact, one of the most ignorant-ass comments I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing is when I, who consider myself mostly centrist, was speaking with a liberal acquaintance who was witnessing the election vote being counted, and he stated in response to seeing Trump winning,
>"This is why democracy doesn't work."
I honestly wanted to sock him in the jaw then and there, and instead reminded him that he would almost certainly have changed his tune if the shoe had been on the other foot.
Nothing pisses me off more than people who flip-flop when something doesn't end up working in their favor. Either you work with the flaws of representative government, or you don't have it.

The big problem was that Obama didn't deliver.
Remember HOPE and "Change you can believe in!"?
Yeah, how'd that change work out?
Nothing happened.
The Middle East got bombed a lot more.
Everyone has the same shitty job.
We're all still basically a money supply for the corporations.

The zeitgeist in America is fed up with the way things are. Not enough to really do anything, but enough to listen to people who say they're going to change things.

Obama was elected for the same reason why Occupy Wallstreet happened. People want change. They don't know how to make it better but they feel like something is rotten.

That's why Trump and Bernie got huge followers. Because they were saying they'd change things. Make things better.
Meanwhile Clinton is just like "Everything is great because your'e great because you'll vote for me".

The sad thing is that Trump isn't delivering on that promise of change either. Everything is pretty much the exact same as it used to be. People still want something to happen. Blue Obama failed to deliver. Red Trump is failing to deliver.
What are people going to feel like in 2020 when both sides haven't done fuck all?

Proper inquiries at this scale always take time. For fuck's sake even a common murder case on a local level can take years, you think they're going to end an investigation of this magnitude with the first piece of bullshit they find?

They already have tons of information about hackers and propaganda tools used by the Russians, Flynn has immense amounts of dirt on him, especially with the new revelation about Peter Smith (I bet you don't know because you haven't been paying attention), and it's all coming to a head. They're not taking this lightly, because the whole deal is that they're trying to go as much by the book as possible. Which is especially important to them since they would want to contrast themeslves with the off-the-book Trump as possible.

This is possibly the most juvenile dismissal of a national security case I've ever seen. And by the side that rattled on about Benghazi for an entire presidential term?

Hmm, that's true. And even if Trump is found to be guilty with Impeachment, will the republicans who controll congress even pull the lever to get Pence in? I don't think so. The next elections for congress will likely be a vote to keep Trump in or out, because if the Dems sweep into office and Trump is impeached, he is done for.

This is going to be an unusually intense election half-way into Trumps first term.
>>
>>93623926
>if the Dems sweep into office

That's a mighty big if anon
>>
>>93623985

Yeah, it is a major big if.

It comes down to how unpopular the dems are VS how unpopular the republicans are. Republicans are at a disadvantage because they are the ones who control the entire federal government and so they are the only ones who can get blamed for things going wrong, and they have all the health-care related issues they are struggling with.

I think the dems have the advantage for the next elections, especially if they replace some of the unpopular guys with more Bernie type people. But who knows what will change by then.
>>
>>93624131
>especially if they replace some of the unpopular guys with more Bernie type people

That would be the smart thing to do, but that's not what they'll do. The Hillary camp is still in charge of the party, and they'll be pushing Hillary-types.

If they fielded a charismatic centrist in 2020 they could take the presidency easily but we both know they won't.

Look.

I dont like either candidate, and i dont like politics, but why do we keep doing this?

Is it so hard to just try and talk to people about why you disagree and try to understand one another, even if from your perspective the other side is ridiculous? Is it really asking so much to try and communicate and reach a mutually beneficial, mutually agreed upon conclusion that you're both at least somewhat happy with without resorting to strawmanning either side?

Was one considerably worse than the other? Yeah, and he won (seemingly likely in part to outside assistance). Yeah, its not great. But that doesnt make the other side good, it just makes it not as bad.

>both candidates suck
>of course i didnt vote for either candidate

See thats sound logic, the reason here being that third party candidates simply dont have the exposure needed to get a majority of people to pay enough attention to them so as to consider them.

The problem with third parties is they need to have as much exposure as the two main parties, not whether or not you vote for them at the poll.

Are you going to argue he ISNT a manchild?
>>
>>93628738

What? No, he clearly is. I thought it was obvious that I was displaying skepticism at the "outside assistance" part.

As far as I can see, Russia was far from the only outside actor that attempted to influence the 2016 election. Whether it was through direct endorsements or funding, advertising, selective or biased reporting, or (allegedly) the hacking and release of damaging (but true) information, every major country on the face of the planet had their own stake in and preference for who would be the next to lead the most powerful nation on Earth. To pretend that there weren't foreign nations attempting to influence the American voting public to choose Hillary Clinton is extremely disingenuous.

Ultimately it came down to American citizens going out to the polls or sending in absentee ballots and casting their vote based on preexisting political biases, key issues they wished to see addressed, the information made available to them about each candidate, etcetera. No minds were controlled and by all accounts no votes were hacked. American voters made their choice, and Trump got enough votes in enough key states to secure victory. Historians and political pundits will likely be dissecting this election for decades due to the vast number of variables at play that lead to the result we got, but putting significant weight on foreign influence above all other matters seems foolish, given how difficult it is to actually calculate what effect it actually had on voting patterns.

Oh i see.

Sorry, usually people who talk about politics here are /pol/-tier "shillary the war pig trump my shit up please" type people so i just assumed.

Yeah i understand, but the extent at which they were involved with the actual team itself is what people are trying to figure out, who knows how that'll turn out.

At the end of the day, though, it comes down to the voting population, even direct manipulation of the results can only go so far before it'd become immediately suspect.

It took me way too long to figure out they quoted themselves.

Only providing the initials would have actually been a nice point on how little light female figures get, but the whole thing's void if you just made it up.

On the other hand, I found this interesting feminist quote trying to Google these quotes:
> "The more I have spoken about feminism, the more I have realized that fighting for women's rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop." -Emma Watson

https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/smart-living/35-empowering-feminist-quotes-from-inspiring-women/ar-AAngATn

It's interesting because a quarter of the quotes shirk men, and Emma Watson of all people provide a criticism of it.

Honestly I feel like the whole travel ban, while well meaning, is going to ultimately be useless. If there is one thing human nature proves is that people are crazy and dedicated and being told not to do something only further motivates them. The War on Drugs is a huge failure and banning firearms doesn't stop from criminals getting them illegally. Likewise, if someone is deadset on coming into this country to bomb it you god damn well expect that there being a "ban" ain't going to do shit. All this does just make the decent people who do things the legal way getting fucked over.

If its people deciding what businesses they want to spend money on, they those businesses will grow based on their own success and can branch off to hire workers and set up in more locations with a stable source of income from customers. Just giving money away randomly will often just give capital to people who will not invest it properly, horde it, or not spend it properly and will have their lives centered on the influx of money they are going to get redistributed. Its better to have spend money on what they want rather then pass it out to everyone haphazardly.

that's what Europe is learning harshly now.

if you stop the immigration you stop crime, but to stop radicalization and terrorism, you need to stop islamization of the youth at unsurpervised muslim learning centers and mosques.

the whole fucking religion has to be banned, or more outrageously, the separation of state and church has to be broken to stop this.

So a Christian theocracy or what?
>>
>>93634486
>>93634589

That's the way it went before.

The only way Christianity's power was put in check was by growing the power of the state over it. Islam was once kept in check by the homogeneous power of a secular empire. Theocratic states like Iran worked out due to dogma being put to the service of the state's best interest, Secular ones like Iraq, Syria, Libya and such fell because the religion was forced under but they weren't strong enough to keep it that way.

now Europe's being Islamized, and they won't stop it, so how else will those states survive?

I saw a video of Hillary speeches over the years, in which she advocates totally opposite viewpoints on issues in different speeches. Changing which side of an issue you support depending on public opinion really isn't surprising for a politician. Most don't care at all about social issues and just support whatever their voter base supports. But Hillary's brazenness is still notable. Not only did she change from side A to B on a lot of issues, she had the audacity to say things like 'I've always supported B! I was one of the first voices in support of B, back when everyone in Washington was pro A.'
Of course, it really doesn't matter anymore. Trump is a shit president and Hillary would've also been shit.

Trump has never talked about or promised any benefits for the people who dislike him. He is only focused on one kind of person. If he would succeed at what he wanted it would be terrible for a lot of people who voted against him. Why should they want him to succeed then? Even the poorer people who made the mistake of voting for him are losing a lot of what they need to survive. Rural areas don't have a lot of hospitals and can't stand to see them shut down, which is what's happening right now.

If he wanted to improve healthcare it would be one thing but he wants to remove it completely and even some republicans are against him on that because their voters need it. He also continues to pass legislation that benefits businesses and not people which is something he said he wouldn't do and is pretty dumb anyone believed. He does believe in climate change and is trying to defund the EPA which is a huge fuckup on a massive scale. The list goes on.

Don't kid yourself. Both sides in American politics are bad. Even people on the right get politically brainwashed by their friends and family. You might not notice it at first but people are like sponges. Every time someone you respect or love agrees or disagrees with something, you get a little influenced. And little by little, all that influence starts building up. Political views aren't really yours. It all depends on where you were born, who you've interacted with, and which political puppet have you been listening to the most.
